Dear friends,

A great deal has happened here at the Centre sincewe last wrote to you. We have just started our sum-mer season proper, having spent the last 2 weeks train-ing the new short term staff. In total, we have a staffteam of 46 people from 24 countries, the biggest andmost varied we have ever had.

The spring has seen a great deal of work to get eve-

rything ready for the summer season – the campsitehas been cleaned and prepared, the rooms madeready, shop souvenirs ordered (check out our internetshop if you cannot get here), activities organised forgroups and much, much more.

Over the first weekend of June, Kandersteg was en- joying wonderful sunshine and the Centre filled upwith the members of our association, for the bian-nual General Assembly. This year, as well as all the‘normal’ work, it was time to say thank you and good-

bye to several committee members and elect new ones

for the next four years. As well as a new committee, the new Director was chosen – Miriam Herzberg (NL)will take over from John in the autumn.

The current committee now includes elected repre-sentatives from the USA, UK, Netherlands, Germany,Italy, Finland and Switzerland, as well as the appointedpeople from the World, European and Swiss ScoutCommittees. In addition, Nicos Kalogeras (GR) whohas served as the Chairman of the Association for 16

years stepped down, and he was unanimously electedas an Honorary Member for all the work he has doneover the years. The new Chairman of the Associationis Thijs Stoffer (NL).

The weekend was also the time when you could seethe first results of our Members’ project for 2002.The front of the Chalet is now much brightened upwith the flags of all the countries that have alreadybeen represented in guests or staff this year, at themoment 36 of them, with more coming in the sum-

mer! Quite a few of our supporters were present forthe weekend.

As you can see, much has been done but there is stilllots more to do. Thanks for all your help this year andwe look forward to working with you in the future.

During the next two months, we are expecting morethan 7’000 guests to stay with us here – it is a verywell booked season. The emphasis in the programmehas been on the In Camp activities this year, and theguests can find many new opportunities to create in-

ternational contacts and test theirown skills. New for this summer are

activities such as InternationalEvening, Pioneering competitionand Adventure Challenge.

Will you be at the World Scout Conference in Greecein mid July? If so, please send us an email to let usknow – John will be there to represent and promotethe Centre and we are looking for lots of people tohelp us promote the Centre there.
