IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE This appliance has a ceramic Fire-bed arrangement; this contains Refractory Ceramic Fibres, which are man-made vitreous silicate fibres. Excessive exposure to these materials can cause irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory organs. Hence we recommend that when handling these materials the release of dust should be kept to a minimum. During installation and servicing we recommend that a HEPA filtered vacuum be used to remove any dust and soot in and around the fire. If any of the ceramic fire-bed components need to be replaced we recommend that the removed parts be sealed in a heavy-duty polythene bag, and be labelled as RCF waste. RCF is not “Hazardous waste” and can be disposed of at a licensed tipping site for the disposal of industrial waste. The appliance incorporates a permanent pilot. This is located on the front of the burner, and must not be adjusted by the installer. This system must not be put out of operation, and if any parts require changing, only original manufacturer parts shall be used. This appliance is designed to be used either Natural or LPG gas however, each individual appliance is only capable of running off the type of gas specified at the time of purchase. It is important to note that once a type of gas has been specified the fire cannot run off any other type. The type of gas that your fire is capable of burning is stated on the data information panel. This appliance has been designed, tested and approved to meet standards in place for product use, performance and safety. Installation of your appliance must comply with current building regulations. It is therefore recommend that a registered gas installer be employed for this task. The engineer will provide you with information about the safety limits of the installation and should fix a notice plate in a place where it can be readily seen. This appliance is designed as a decorative heating device and consequently all body parts become very hot in use. Except for the control knob and control access door, which are designed to stay cool, all other parts are working surfaces and should not be touched. The front of this appliance does not give full protection for young children, the elderly or infirm, extra protection should be considered for these conditions conforming to BS 6539 or BS 6778. The appliance is not fitted with a functional integral guard. In normal use, consideration should be given to the use of an additional guard, conforming to the standard above, such that access to the open flame is minimised.

Flue Spillage Monitoring System This fire is fitted with a flue spillage safety device (TTB). If the fire shuts down during use for no apparent reason then several things may be suspected. If a door or window has been opened creating a draught, then pilot disturbance is the problem, and removal of the draught should resolve this. The gas pressure reaching the fire must also be checked. The thermocouple connection into the back of the gas control valve may also have worked loose during installation, simply tighten to remedy if this is the case. If pilot disturbance is not the cause, then the TTB safety system may be in operation. Switch the appliance OFF, check the flue and carry out any remedial work required. Relight the fire and carry out a spillage test. DO NOT allow the appliance to be used if it continues to fail a spillage test. The spillage monitoring system shall not be adjusted, modified, or put out of operation by the installer. Any spare parts fitted MUST be of a type supplied for the purpose by the appliance manufacturer. If the fire is not spilling, then further guidance should be sought, using the Troubleshooting section as a guide.

The receiver unit can be hidden away under or behind the fire, ensure that the receiver is located in an area that has a temperature below 60ºC, and that the customer knows where the receiver is for future battery replacement. Check the system.

Installing the Additional Controls (Remote Control) Motor Installation This procedure is to be followed for the installation of the Motor Unit, which must be fitted to use all remote control options, except the Fully Electronic Ignition System which has the motor built in. Remove the retaining screw, (Figure 1) and by using the blade of a small screwdriver, pry off the cover (opposite end of the cover to the screw) (Figure 2).

Turn the geared knob fully counter clockwise to the end stop position. Place the motor unit into position as shown in Figure 3. The motor should fit into location and sit in place with the gear mating with the

teeth of the geared knob. Replace the Plastic cover and replace the retaining screw (without the metal sleeve around the screw), this retains both the cover and the motor. The Control valve is now ready to be fitted with the simple up/down control system.

Seagas Manual Control Igniting the Pilot Light

Turn the Control knob slightly anti-clockwise towards the ignition position until reaching stop, depress and hold for five seconds (only pilot gas flows). Whilst still depressed, turn further in an anti-clockwise direction to activate the piezo. If the pilot does

not light, repeated immediately. Continue to keep the knob depressed for a further 10 seconds, after the pilot has been lit. Upon releasing the knob, the permanent pilot will remain lit, if not return to off position and repeat. If under any circumstances the electric spark fails, the pilot may be lit manually by proceeding with the ignition sequence as previously described, and after turning the control knob through the spark position, the knob should be held in and the pilot lit with a match or other lighter. Running the appliance at high output

Ignite permanent pilot as shown in “Igniting the pilot light”. Turn the control knob fully anti-clockwise to the High setting. The appliance is now burning at its highest operating output.

Running the appliance at lower setting

Ignite permanent pilot and run appliance at “High” setting for a minimum of 10 minutes as shown previous.

With the control knob at the highest setting, rotate in a clock-wise direction towards the lower setting as required. The appliance is now operating at lower operating output. Extinguishing the appliance back to permanent pilot setting

From any heat setting, turn the Control knob in a clockwise direction to the “Pilot” position.

Extinguishing the appliance fully

From any heat setting, turn to “Pilot” as in “Extinguishing the appliance back to permanent pilot setting”. Depress the control knob slightly and turn clockwise to “Off” position.

In the extent of a flue blockage or spillage, the monitoring system will operate and turn off the fire. If this occurs extinguish the appliance fully and re-light following the procedures as previously described. If the fire repeatedly shuts down by the monitoring system, then a specialist engineer should be informed.

Testing and Commissioning Turn on and test the gas supply up to the fire for any leaks, in accordance with current edition of BS6891. Test the setting pressures as detailed on page **. Perform a spillage test as detailed on page **. When the appliance is first used, the coating of various parts may cure. It is advisable to ventilate the room during this period for at least one hour.

Setting Pressure Remove the screw from the pressure test point. The pressure test point is situated on the side of the gas control. The setting pressure should be in accordance with the figures stated on page 32 of these instructions. The fire is factory set to achieve these pressures, and any significant variation could indicate a supply problem. If the pressure is too high, the gas supply meter may be set incorrectly. This should be checked with the fire running and if necessary reset by the gas supplier. If the pressure is too low, then check the meter governor pressure with the appliance running. If this is incorrect it will need to be reset by the gas supplier. If the setting pressure is too low, but the meter pressure is acceptable, then a problem in the supply pipework is to be suspected. This will be dirt and debris, kinked or inadequate size pipes, restriction in a fitting or solder flashing across a joint. (NOTE: you will not get an accurate reading of the inlet pressure with a pressure gauge on the end of the supply pipe - this is the static pressure in the system. You must use a T piece and measure the supply pressure with the fire on High - the dynamic pressure). Refit and tighten the screw into the pressure test point when the test is complete.

Site Requirements The fireplace opening should be inspected and repairs made where necessary. It will usually be necessary to remove any chair brick that may be in place. The opening WIDTH dimension should have a minimum size of 685mm. The opening HEIGHT dimensions should have a minimum size of 500mm. Opening DEPTH should have a minimum size of 450mm. This appliance requires a natural draught flue system which may be one of the following; 225mm x 225mm (9in x 9in) brick or stone. 125mm (5in) minimum diameter lined brick or stone. 125mm (5in) minimum diameter twin wall flue conforming to BS 715. Any existing under grate draught device must be sealed off. The opening wall must be non-combustible. The appliance requires a hearth with non-combustible surface of at least 12mm thick. The top surface must be at least 50mm above the surrounding floor level, or be surrounded by a raised edge or fender 50mm high. A combustible shelf may be fixed to the wall above the fire, providing that it is a minimum distance of 300mm above the fire. A non-combustible shelf may be fitted to within 10mm of the top edge of the fireplace opening. Combustible materials, such as wood, may be fitted to within 100mm (4in) of either side of the fireplace opening, providing the forward projection does not exceed 100mm (4in). Any combustible side walls must be at least 500mm to the side of the radiant heat source.

As with all heating appliances, any decorations, soft furnishings, and wall coverings (i.e. flock, blown vinyl and embossed paper) positioned too close to the appliance may discolour or scorch. Ventilation This product is rated in excess of 7kW, and it is a legal requirement to have 100cm² of ventilation if the input is in excess of 7kW. Thus 100cm² of ventilation is required. If spillage is detected when commissioning the appliance then amongst other problems there may be insufficient natural ventilation for the correct operation of the flue. This is potentially a greater problem should the property be of modern nature. If the appliance does not spill with windows open but does with windows closed, this proves that lack of ventilation is the problem, if not; it will be the flue at fault. Installation of an air brick is the best solution. Any ventilation fitted must comply with BS 5871 part 3 and BS 5440 part 2. Ventilation located underneath or within the immediate vicinity of the fire MUST NOT be used as it may adversely affect the performance of the spillage detection system. Spillage detected during commissioning is almost always a result of poor flue performance, which cannot be corrected by any amount of ventilation. For Republic of Ireland ventilation may be required, see IS 813, ICP3, IS 327, and any other rules in force.

Installing the Appliance Notes: Ensure that the gas supply is isolated before commencing

installation of the appliance. Check that the thermocouple connection nut into the rear of the valve is secure. Smoke test the flue to ensure proper draw and that there are no leaks present.

Locate the gas supply point. This appliance is suitable for all gas connections, including those concealed behind the opening. An isolation valve (conforming to national regulations) must be fitted adjacent to the appliance which, when closed, allows the burner assembly and controls to be disconnected for maintenance or repair. Using 8mm diameter pipe, connect the appliance to the gas supply point. The appliance must be fitted with rigid or semi-rigid pipe of 8mm external diameter. Keep the amount of 8mm pipe used in the supply to a minimum - less than 1.2m where possible. A long run of pipe may cause an unacceptable drop in the supply pressure. Secure the Burner to the floor using the provided brackets; these should be screwed to the floor using rawplugs and screws. Position the grate on top of the burner, so that the slot locates over the burner tube. Ensure that the Pilot Cut-out correctly aligns with the pilot of the burner and that the burner can Cross Light without any impingement.
