PurposeoftheStrandMap:TheNorthCarolinastandardsforSocialStudiesareorganizedaroundfivedisciplinarystrands.TheStrandMapoutlinestheverticalprogressionofobjectiveswrittentotheHistorystrandofeachcourseintheK-12NorthCarolinaStandardCourseofStudy(SCOS).TheHistoryStrandMapisoneoffivedisciplinarystrandmapspreparedfortheNorthCarolinaSocialStudiesstandards.Eachstrandmapisintendedtoserveasatoolforrecognitionofthemajorconceptsandunderstandingsstudentsshouldbeexpectedtoknowbytheendofeachgrade-bandandhighschoolcourse.HowtoReadtheStrandMap:
