Junior Golfers Raise some Major Money

The 2020 fundraising efforts took a big hit for the Junior Foundation since the covid outbreak this spring. The Junior Foundation was not able to do most of its planned fundraising events. Then we received a call from the Wieland’s and Wiess’s about the boys playing a bunch of holes and raising money for the Foundation. The junior players were Brett (15) & Kade (11) Wieland of Milton, WI and Luke (12) and Alex Weiss (15) of Mid-dleton, WI. Brett and Alex had a goal of 200 holes while younger brothers Luke and Kade wanted to get 100 holes in. They teed it up on August 24 at Oak Ridge GC in Milton. The boys started the day about 5:20 a.m. in the dark with glow balls. Kade Wieland made the first highlight of the day with his first ever Hole-In-One on hole #4 during his second round of the day! Kade used a 5-iron on the 155 yard hole. Luke and Kade finished 101 holes at 1:52 p.m. and with another WPGA Junior Foundation event the next day they decided not to push it in the 93 degree heat. Brett & Alex pushed through and finished their goal of 200 holes at 5:29 p.m. and eventually finished at 212 holes! In total the boys raised $4,600 that will go towards the WPGA Junior Foundation Scholarship Fund. Quotes from Middleton Times-Tribune—by Rob Reischel “The Wisconsin Junior PGA Foundation (holds) junior golf tournaments for kids of all ages and provide scholarships for kids that wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate in these events,” Alex Weiss recently told Wisconsin.Golf. “We have played in the Wisconsin Junior PGA tournaments for many years and it’s been an incredible experience for us, especially during COVID-19.”

Brett Weiland agreed. “They also provide college scholarships for kids that decide to play college golf,” Weiland said of the Wisconsin Jun-ior PGA Foundation. “Their mission statement is to promote the game of golf by providing positive opportunities, en-joyment, and education to Wisconsin junior golfers and their families.”

THANK YOU!

Brett & Alex wiped out after 212 holes

With the nationwide cancellation of the 2020 Drive Chip and Putt season, we want to acknowledge our three finalists that will be competing at the National Finals the Sunday before the Masters begins in April of 2021. They will join the 77 other National Finalists on Sunday, April 4,2021 the week of The Masters Tournament and put their skills to the test once again. The finals are aired live on the Golf Channel start-ing at 7am/8am EST.

Mitchell Shroyer (Middleton, Wis.) captured first place honors in the Boys 7-9 age division and was the first Wisconsin junior golfer to punch his ticket after tallying 99 points. His score of 47 points in the Chip skill gave him a large edge over the other eleven competitors. McKenna Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis.) was no stranger to the Regional stage after qualifying several times before. Nelson finished runner-up by just one point in 2017 at Interlachen, but her 135 points total earned her first place by a whopping 34 points in the Girls 10-11 division. Her putting score of 65 pro-pelled her to the top. Ashleyjen Powell (Appleton, Wis.) took home first place in the Girls 14-15 division after accumulating 143 points. Powell improved from skill to skill--ending with a nearly perfect putting score of 70 points. Her solid short game performance edged out the runner-up by a narrow margin.

What are former players up to now?

Tommy Winkler is a former junior player that is now playing college golf at UW Parkside. He not only loves golf but loves food also. His Tik Tok account just passed 1 million followers! Wow. We asked Tommy a few questions for our “Where are they now” segment. How do you like playing college golf, how did our events prepare you for college golf? - College golf is a lot of fun and such an awesome experience! One of my favorite things about it is how competitive everyone is and how unique each of the courses that I get to play are. During covid this year, our conference canceled all of our tournaments for the spring and the fall, but throughout the summer and fall I was able to play in some WSGA tournaments that helped keep my skill level up. I definitely think that your WPGA summer events prepared me for college golf because playing in tournaments

puts more pressure you and that type of experience is what you need to get better at this sport. What is your favorite memory of playing in our junior golf events? - My favorite memory in one of your junior golf events was definitely when I went into my first ever playoff for a junior tour tournament at Pleasant View Golf Course, which I ended up winning of course, but I had never felt that type of pressure before playing the sport and I definitely won’t forget that. What's your favorite course to play in the state? - My favorite course to play in Wisconsin is the straits course at Whistling Straits. Such a tough golf course and it has a beautiful view the whole 18 holes. What was your favorite Wisconsin Junior Foundation event? - I’d have to say my favorite Wisconsin Junior Foundation event was definitely the Blackwolf Run Players Tour tourna-ment because that is one of my favorite courses to play in Wisconsin and it was more than one day, so got to play a lot of golf there. When did you start your Tik Tok account and did you ever think you would reach 1 million? What's that like? - I started my TikTok account (@itsalltommy) in November of 2019 just because I’ve always been interested in social media and making content to entertain people. I always knew I could get 1 million followers but just didn’t think it would happen this quickly. The thought of having that many people that watch me is still unbelievable and there is a lot that happens on the business side of things, outside of just creating the content, that I’m learning about and it is very time consuming. TikTok has presented me with some many different opportunities and it is just amazing that I am able to experience all this. I see you like to eat different stuff on your Tik Tok? What is your favorite on course snack? - I do eat a lot of different stuff but I would have to say my go to snack on the course is the plain old goldfish.

Tommy is now over 1.5 million followers on his Tik Tok account!!!!
