FIRST READING: Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. (Acts 2:3) PSALM: Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Ps 104) or Alleluia.

SECOND READING: For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Rom 8:14) GOSPEL:

"The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you." (Jn 14:26)

The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for Mass (c) 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

"God is always more." Have you ever heard that? If we truly believe that He is infinite, then this statement is worth exploring. Today, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in power upon the early Church. But Pentecost wasn't the first time the disciples received the Holy Spirit. The Gospel actually occurs chronologically before Pentecost. Soon after the Resurrection, Jesus already "came and stood in their [the disciples'] midst... he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" God is always more. Sometimes we might think the grace of God as one and done. God might break through in people's lives, but it's a one-time event on a retreat or preceding a dramatic conversion of life.

But there's always more to come. Even today's Gospel isn't the first time the breath of God stirred. In Genesis, it's God's breath that stirs life into Adam in the garden. Jesus breathes on the Apostles, giving them the Holy Spirit in the quiet and silence. Later, that breath will stir into a "driving wind", and the Spirit will descend with flame...not unlike Moses on Mount Sinai. God is always more. He has spoken throughout salvation history, and continues to speak into our lives through His Church and through the Holy Spirit alive in our hearts. This Pentecost Sunday, let us come before Him with expectant hearts! Like the disciples in the Gospel and first reading, let us await what "more" God will do.

Heal us, Lord, and we shall be healed; save us, and we shall be saved; for it is You we praise. Send relief and healing for all our diseases, our sufferings and our wounds; for You are a merciful and faithful healer. Blessed are You Lord, who heals the sick.

Receive, Lord, in tranquility and peace, the souls of your servants who have departed out of this present life to be with you. Give them the life that knows no age, the good things that do not pass away; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

When we think of things that bring us comfort, we often remember a blanket, a doll, or toy we had as a small child. As adults, we feel that way about our Rosaries. We reach for them when a family member gets ill, a child has a big test or competition, a job opportunity presents itself, or we just want to feel the comfort of the beads. What a blessing to be able to make and offer this comfort to others. At SMDM this ministry has been active for 14 years. Because of this ministry, thousands of Rosaries have been made and supplied to missions around the world, hospitals, hospice, military members overseas, as well as other parishes and parishioners. People make Rosaries while sitting in Adoration or watching TV or visiting with friends in our Learning Center at 10am on Friday mornings. Rosaries have been made for new priests and Bishops, for grandparents, and confirmation students. Making a Rosary can be soothing or spark your creative side as you choose the colors and beads, crosses, and medals to make yours unique. There are no regular meetings or requirements to belong. Few things are treasured more by Catholics than their Rosaries. Pat Quinn is ready to teach you and supply all materials. Call Pat to get involved once or for a lifetime: 386-439-9650.

Have you ever been in the center of a large international city or airport and begun to recognize the sound of many different languages other than your own? And looked around to see the many different colors of the speakers’ faces? And then noticed them caring for their children, looking at a cell phone, getting a drink of water … and realize that they are just like you? It’s a powerful moment. Thank you Holy Spirit for help-ing us realize that we are all called to be one. As good stewards, we re-spect each other, as we ourselves want respect.

Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9 after each Mass. This sacrament is offered in accordance with the direction given by Vatican II. Specifically, the emphasis is on heal-ing and strengthening rather than the forgiving of sins. It is meant for those suffering emotion-al, physical, spiritual sick-nesses; abused people; those going into surgery, etc.

Food donation bags will be distributed after each Mass on the last weekend of each month. Please remember to bring your filled food donation bags back to the Gathering Area the following weekend (first weekend of each month). Thank you for your generosity!

The Church’s response to donating brand new socks has been fantastic and greatly needed! Some of the places the socks have gone to are: The Cold Weather Shelter, Salvation Army, DAV for Veterans, Bread of Life Community Supper, Halifax Urban Ministry in Daytona, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Kite Shop at the beach is passing them out to the homeless down by the pier. Please keep up the wonderful job of donating brand new socks for men, women and children!

The Centering Prayer ministry is dedicated to fostering the process of transformation in Christ through the practices of the Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, reflection/sacred sharing, and enrichment experiences. Centering Prayer is simply a wordless, trusting opening of self to the divine presence. While it is about the simplest form of prayer there is, it allows us to get in touch with our natural intimacy with God deep within us that often gets lost in the busyness of life. Weekly Centering Prayer sessions are held in the Learning Center. If you are interested in learning more, we are happy to talk with you and email you an informational packet. Please contact Sue McBride, 956-9012.

Last Sunday of the month after 9 am Mass The Knights of Columbus sponsors a Pancake Breakfast (includes omelets and sausage). Come join us!

Join us for First Saturday Mass at 9am in the Chapel. The monthly Mass will be a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Our parish’s Catholic Ministry at the Flagler County Detention Facility provides needed pastoral care for inmates in the county jail. We are currently seeking a few additional male volunteers to serve the male inmates. The most important qualifications are a spirit of compassion and a calling to bring Christ in Word and Sacrament to the incarcerated. Prior training as an Extraor-dinary Minister of Holy Communion is desirable, but not neces-sary. Volunteers must be year-round local residents. The time commitment is small: a few hours every other month. If you think you might be interested in this ministry and would like more information, please contact John Bangert (301-318-6832; [email protected]). “For I was in prison and you visited me.”

(Matthew 25).

The Catholic Writers Guild has awarded its Seal of Approval to Poppa–A Fictional Biog-raphy of Joseph of Nazareth, by C. K. McKen-na, a member of Santa Maria del Mar par-ish. The Guild awards its Seal to works of fic-tion and non-fiction that demonstrate both “support of Catholic beliefs and values” and “editorial integrity.” Poppa is available as a pa-perback in the SMdM parish Gift Shop and as an ebook and audio book at Amazon, Apple and elsewhere. More information on the Seal of Approval is available at CatholicWritersGuild.org.

Holy Spirit, fan into flame the gifts I received in my Baptism and Confirmation. I want to receive the fire of Your love as Your disciples did at Pentecost. Come with wonder and awe, with wisdom, understanding, and counsel, with courage and faith in You. Holy Spirit, may my actions witness to Your presence in my life. Help me to see the ways my strengths can serve others in their weakness. In all my interactions, I want to radiate love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Breathe new life into the world through me. Amen.

The U.S. Senate recently failed to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act—legislation that prohibits infanticide by ensuring that a child born alive following an attempted abortion would receive the same degree of care to preserve her or his life and health as would be given to any other child born alive at the same gestational age. Please join us in prayer for an end to infanticide: Jesus, Lord of life, transform the hearts of all elected leaders to recognize that infanticide is wrong and must not be tolerated. Open hearts and minds to recognize and defend the precious gift of every human life.

Please continue to fill up your Baby Bottles with coins and dollar bills. Your donations support pregnant women who need assistance at the Alpha Women’s Center. The Respect Life Ministry and Knights of Columbus thank you for your support! For more information, contact Janice Berreth at 386-597-2344.

The disciples must have missed spending time with Jesus after he went back to heaven. But they knew that the Holy Spirit would always be with them, helping them remember what Jesus taught them. The disciples kept learning about God and kept growing closer to him. The Holy Spirit will help you remember Jesus, too.

Dear God, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit.

Draw a picture of Jesus washing his friends' feet.

Pray to the Holy Spirit. Ask him to help you learn more about Jesus. ©2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 - 1-800-950-9952 x2469 - LPiResourceCenter.com
