PTA or PTAGoal: A vibrant, active parent organization

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:1. Will PTO have representation in the State and National legislature? NO2. How often do PTA’s avail themselves of the extras that PTA offers? Continually3. Why would anyone choose a PTO? The independence of setting up your

organization any way you wish. Also, there is no payment of state/national dues.

4. Exactly what is the amount of PTA dues and where do they go? $1.00 goes to the National Association. $0.75 goes to the state association. Each individual school sets its own amount of dues whether the organization is a PTA or PTO.

5. How do you set up a PTO? There are no set guidelines.6. What is the ratio of PTA to other parent organizations in Loudoun County?

Probably 50/507. Do PTA and PTO organizations co-exist? Only with regard to LEAP (Loudoun

Education Alliance of Parents.) LEAP is the umbrella parent organization, which meets once a month.

8. How flexible are the PTA by-laws? You are given standards, which must be incorporated into the local unit’s by-laws. The local PTA unit can then tailor their by-laws to meet the individual unit’s needs.

9. Is help available for either the PTA or PTO? Help is provided to the PTA from the state, Hunt District, as well as local elementary schools. There is no state organization to ask for assistance for the PTO. Local elementary schools that are PTO’s can provide assistance.
