Electric co-ops advocate for fairness down the lines and regulatory parity and clarity The sun was shining brightly as more than 200 rural electric cooperative (REC) employees and directors, representing 38 co-ops, traveled to the Iowa State Capitol on Wednesday, March 14 to advocate on behalf of their member-owners during their annual REC Day on the Hill event. CEO Roxanne Carisch and Administration Manager/Member Service Representative Keaton Hildreth along with Directors Jim Miller, Terry Finley, Beryl Birkland and Steve Boedecker attended from Calhoun County REC.

With the proposed Energy Omnibus Bill working its way through the House, co-ops met with legislators to discuss regulatory parity and clarity in addition to maintaining fair and affordable rates. Iowa’s electric co-ops support efficiency programs that are cost-effective. The co-ops also strongly support a utility’s ability to recover fixed costs associated with providing safe, reliable service, ensuring that all co-op members pay equitably to use and maintain the electric grid.

The electric co-op advocates first gathered for a briefing on state legislative issues, then met with their local elected officials during a dessert social on the first-floor rotunda of the Capitol. Slices of pie were served in celebration of Pi Day, which is observed annually on March 14. Legislators and visitors were able to view dozens of booths which were on display around the rotunda, sharing various ways Iowa’s electric co-ops work to keep electricity safe, reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible for the member-owners they serve.

Happy Father’s Day!!

Director Nominations in Districts 2 & 7 for September ElectionAs an electric cooperative, Calhoun County REC is guided by an elected Board of Directors who represent

our members’ best interests when making important decisions. It is important for us to elect strong directors to our board, which is why we encourage members to run in our board elections. Not only do we need to encourage friends and family to run for board positions, but we need to get out and vote for those individuals that we think will act in the best interests of our cooperative.

The nomination process puts no limit on the number of candidates in a given district. To serve on the board a candidate must hold an active membership in the district he or she is to represent. A candidate cannot be in any way employed by, financially affected by or have other interests in a business which is in competition with the cooperative or its affiliates.

All candidates should note the time requirements of a director are more than just 12 monthly meetings. Directors should be prepared to devote an average of 25-30 days annually to cooperative business-related activities. TL127

At this time, two board seats are up for election in two of the seven cooperative districts. The elections will be held at the September 12 annual meeting. The incumbent Directors whose current terms expire and are eligible for re-election in 2018 are Ron Hanson, district 2 and Beryl Birkland, district 7.

If you are interested in being nominated as a Director, please call the cooperative at 712-2917-7112 and speak with CEO Roxanne Carisch.

PRIVACY POLICY Energy Cost Adjustment

When the cost of power decreases, we pass the savings on to our member-owners. However, when the cost of power increases, we also must adjust the costs for our member-owners.

The “energy cost adjustment” (ECA) is exactly that – a way to adjust the fluctuating monthly cost of wholesale power over or under the established kWh rate. 20P30HA

When Calhoun County REC receives our power bill from Corn Belt, our power provider, any increases or decreases in power costs from the normal base kWh rate is passed on to the member-owner using the ECA.
