AimsEnsure the on-going supply of an appropriately skilled nursing workforce to meet the changing requirements of health care within London.

Outputs so far:

• Raising awareness, and providing briefing data to inform responses to DH consultation

Next steps:• Develop collective action plans to ensure enough potential students choose

nursing in London HEIs• Use STP footprint to ensure students experience placements across whole

range of healthcare organisations and settings

Outputs so far• HEIs and employers coming to agreement on what is needed for employment

guarantee for London-educated nurses• Commissioning of pan-London approach to numeracy testing• Testing of models of effective mentorship in practice

Next steps• Testing and implementation of numeracy test• Scope harmonised employment & development processes across London• Capital employment & skills passport to streamline movement across the

capital

Outputs so far• Engagement & branding, focusing on Generation Y • Career pathway – project covering 3 HEE offices – building on current

approaches – to provide clear, harmonised pathways from preceptorship, early career rotation, and specialist training – focusing initially on areas with service and recruitment needs

• Study tour organised to “nurse-friendly” organisations in US / Canada

Next steps• Launch of new Capital Nurse brand and marketing strategy• Adaptation of programme governance to encourage wider engagement• Development of toolkits to help disseminate best practice from local /

international examples
