PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

2018 Band Camp

2018 Band Campers participated in a unique blend of music tuition, performance, social interactions and fun activities providing them with experiences they will remember for a lifetime. Miss Young and Mrs Bailey reported outstanding behaviour and conduct from all participants - what wonderful school representatives. A special thank you to their talented and committed conductor Mr John D’Arcy! Well done everyone. Students provided a jointly constructed recounting their experiences.

We had a great experience at band camp. We caught a bus from school and

joined with Toongabbie Public. We were all in the cabin called 'Wombat". On

Friday night we had a disco showdown. Saturday was an intense day of

practising for our instrument. We had a hard day of training in both small

groups for our own instrument and as a whole band. On Sunday we had a fun

activity and then held a concert for our parents. It was a great weekend and we

learnt a lot!

Maths Matters @ PNPS Parent Information Session It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers in

attendance at this session held last week. Learning partnerships

are so very important as we all work towards common goals,

providing every opportunity for your children and our students to

experience success in their learning journey. Please let us know

what sessions you would like us to conduct in the future as we

value your input.

NSW Health Dental Assessments K-6 To accompany this newsletter, a note and a yellow dental

assessment form will be sent home. Please read this information

carefully and send the form back as soon as possible. A

reminder that the NSW Health Dental Team will only assess the

students’ teeth. There will be no treatment conducted at this

time.

Fostering Community Partnerships Makes A

Difference To Enhancing Student Learning!

Artists in Residence 2/1M students were fortunate to participate in art classes and

learn techniques in visual arts from one of our talented parents.

The students created beautiful artworks that will be framed and

displayed in our school. A special thank you to Mrs Thirumalai

Rajkumar.

School Safety – Supervision A reminder that our school opens at 8.30am. Students should not arrive at school before this time as teaching staff are not available to supervise them. School closes at 3pm. Students must leave promptly when classes

are dismissed.

If I can see 2 cars parked outside the garage, how many are inside?

Problem 3-6

One of our classes created a triangular patch of dirt in the class garden that they wanted to plant broccoli seedlings in.

If they space the seedlings correctly, they can fit twelve rows, with one seedling in the first row, four seedlings in the next, seven in the next and so on.

How many broccoli seedlings can they plant?

Mrs Kathryn Methven NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee Competition Update

In week 6, 10 Stage 2 students and 10 Stage 3 students who were successful in the first round of the spelling Bee participated in round 2. These students had to verbally spell words in front of two judges (Mrs Courtney and Miss Young) and a small audience of students. As the round progressed the words became more difficult such as abacus, flippant, mongrel and adventurous, abseiling and competence.

Congratulations to the two Stage 2 & 3 Spelling Bee finalists: Isabelle (4/3P), Rian (4/3P), Rushil (6/5B) and Safa (6/5L) who will be representing our school in the regional finals for the Premier’s Spelling Bee.

Westwords Art Attack Excursion Sadami Konchi is a professional Portraitist, watercolourist and

picture book illustrator who teaches the Art Attack group once a week. Last Wednesday, students were invited to attend the Westwords studio in Parramatta. Students attended a special workshop run by Sadami where they created their own artworks, using symbols of importance to them. Miss Dodd

School Uniform Price Increase Due to an increase in the supply cost, we have had to increase the price of the winter pinafore to $36.00. Winter shirts remain the same price, at $17.00.

Absence from School If your child has been absent from school due to sickness etc, please use our APP or write a note to your child’s class teacher stating the date and reason for the absence. It is a Department requirement that all absences from school are explained.

School Banking for Students School Banking has commenced at PNPS. School Banking is a wonderful way to help your child develop good savings habits. Congratulations to our consistent savers who have received their rewards.

Our banking day is Tuesday. Student Safety – Vehicles on School Grounds Parents are asked not to drive onto school grounds at any time during the day. This applies to dropping off your child in the morning and picking up in the afternoon. The safety of all our students is the responsibility of the whole school community.

Farsi News

Payments at School All payments for excursions need to be given to your child’s classroom teacher as they are recorded in the class folder. The correct money and permission note should be sent to school in a sealed envelope. These will be collected from students during morning class time. Please do not hand payments to teachers. Please also note, only Australian coins can be accepted.

We have a few students who are allergic to

nuts and students who are highly allergic, which could be life threatening.

Please Do Not put Peanut Butter or Nutella on your child's sandwiches or send

nuts to school

Zone Cross Country Well done to all Zone Cross Country representatives for your fine performances. We had some very good results from our students. Most importantly, the students strived to achieve their personal best. Mrs Bax and Mr Wylie were proud of their attitude and conduct on the day.
