Happy Anniversary! The Arrowhead Beach Property Owners

Association is celebrating its 55th anniversary. Please join your neighbors for a covered dish luncheon immediately following the monthly business meeting on Saturday, October 13.

Board of Directors: Van Dee Hetherington resigned as Vice President from the Board of Directors in August. She sold her property and is no longer a property owner. She will still be around selling real estate in our neighborhoods. We thank her for her service to the APOA especially for the wonderful Spring Expo last April.

The Board of Directors welcomes two new Directors, Kristy Bunch (Parks & Recreation) and John Lillard (Vice President). Both were appointed in August. Kristy grew up in Arrowhead Beach. She is the proud mother of two adorable children, wife of Michael Bunch and a 3rd grade teacher. She is creative and her energy is infectious. Look for new events designed for residents of all ages. Kristy can be reached at [email protected].

John and his wife Kathy transitioned from part-time to full time residents. John has many talents and is experienced in Information Technology and management. His project management skills will be an asset to Arrowhead and he has already begun the process of long range planning, a review of the by-laws and upgrades to our existing technology.

Both John and Kathy need volunteers to help with all the work they have planned. We are happy to have them on board and look forward to moving forward on important initiatives.

Repairs: The Board is continuing to seek bids for repairs to our piers, boat launch and ramp for the office. Our hope is to have a contractor(s) selected for approval at an upcoming business meeting.

Annual Maintenance Assessment: The 2018-19 budget requires the APOA to collect $79,180 in AMAs. Through August, we have met and exceeded our goal with 8 more months left to our fiscal year by collecting $80,33349. The Board appreciates your commitment to the financial strength of the APOA. Even with that good news, 138 property owners continue to be delinquent. Sometimes we forget or have other pressing bills that take precedent. The Board is open to making payment arrangements. For the most serious delinquencies, the Board of Directors has authorized the APOA attorney to begin Lien

procedures. We all have an obligation to honor our financial commitment to the Association as a whole. If you are delinquent, please contact Brenda in the office to make payment arrangements.

Social Media: The Facebook page has been changed to Arrowhead Beach Community Life. We still have all of our followers, friends and photos of the old FB page. The

decision to suspend the old Facebook page was to protect it from being used to spread false information and attacking people personally. Board members are not obligated to post anything or respond to any posts or comments on any social media. Please remember that maintaining a Facebook page or a website is a volunteer effort that is not required of the Board. Communication is available face to face at monthly business meetings, or by phone, letter or email. We will be revamping our website, arrowheadbeach.com, in the coming weeks. If you have pictures or want to share a story or if you have any household tips or recipes, please contact the office 252-221-8331 or email us at [email protected].

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe autumn season.

Newest Board Members Getting a Head Start John Lillard was appointed in August to fill the Vice President’s position. John has many years of experience in the Information Technology industry as well as project management. John will be invaluable in offering his unique skill sets to helping the Board manage the Association. John has already started looking at long range planning for the Association and a review of the By-laws. Glad you came aboard, John!

Kristy Bunch was also appointed in August to fill the Director of Parks & Recreation position. Kristy has already shown that she is a valuable member of the Board by coordinating the Ice Cream Social on August 11 and the End of Summer cookout. She is currently working on the Fall Festival to be held Oct. 27th and needs volunteers and supplies. She can be reached at [email protected] or leave a message at the office

A Message from the Chowan-Perquimans Habitat for Humanity

By Sally Holloway, Public Relations

It is with great enthusiasm and pleasure that I announce the election of Ron Cummings as the next president of the Board of Directors of Chowan-Perquimans Habitat for Humanity. I am personally thrilled to pass the presidency baton to someone who is

knowledgable in all aspects of construction, safety, human relations, and community enrichment. Many of you already know Ron as a County Commissioner, a bee keeper extraordinaire or an active member of the United Methodist Church of Edenton. In addition, he spent 23 years in the United States Navy where he served as an engineering advisor and Command Master Chief

(as a retired officer in the USCG, I remember many times the Command Master Chief was the essential bridge of wisdom and technical experience that "saved my bacon.") After retiring from the service, Ron continued to use his skills in various manufacturing companies as a production and logistics supervisor and has been a long-time resident

of Chowan County. Ron joined Habitat in 2016 and immediately became instrumental in the construction of our last three houses. He is competent, patient, organized, and passionate about improving all aspects of the community and helping those in need.

Construction-wise, we are in the process of purchasing a house in Edenton as a renovation project

for our current Partner Family. We anticipate construction beginning in September and will need volunteers to "tear down and build up" as the project progresses. Mac Privott, our building chairman for the project, is so talented at leading and building that it is a joy to be on his team.

Board Elections are Right Around the Corner!

It’s that time of year again! The Arrowhead Beach Property Owners enters the election cycle for the 2019 fiscal year Board of Director positions and any resolutions that require membership approval.

There are three positions on the Board of directors up for election in April 2019. There are two incumbent candidates and one appointed candidate. The incumbents are Brenda DeMoulin and Ken Nowlin. The appointed candidate is Steve Mullen, who was appointed to fill Bill Dunn’s position. If you are interested in running for the Board, please submit a resume by January 4, 2019.

We need volunteers for the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee carries out one of the most important tasks on behalf of the Arrowhead Beach property owners. The Nominating Committee is responsible for ensuring the election process and timeline is followed with efficacy and

transparency. It functions as an independent committee from the Board of Directors. It is a straightforward process and requires less than 10 hours of work between October and April.

The Nominating Committee will be appointed and approved by the Board at the October 13, 2018 monthly business meeting. If you are interested in joining the Nominating Committee, please leave a message at the APOA office - 221-8331.

Nominating Committee Schedule and Duties:

November 10, 2018, Present letter to APOA Board of Directors (BOD) with all nominating committee members.

Insure a request for candidates for election to the BOD is included in the November-December All Around Arrowhead Newsletter.

Collect all letters of interested candidates by January 4, 2019.

Use the list of property owners to determine all candidates are qualified,

in good standing, to serve on the BOD.

Provide a slate of candidates to the BOD at the January 12, 2019 meeting. This can be at least as many candidates as known openings.

Insure that a ballot is provided with the notice of the Annual Membership Meeting in the March/April AAA newsletter (mailed no later than February 28, 2019).

Establish procedure to ensure delivery of all ballots to the Nominating Committee. All ballots should be in the office no later than March 29, 2019

On April 6, 2019 the Nominating Committee will count, verify and record all valid ballots.

Report results at the Annual Membership meeting April 6, 2019.

For the complete description, go to arrowheadbeach.com and look up Bylaws - Article XIII, Section 11.

This Issue of the Newsletter is an Expanded Edition Due to busy summer schedules and a series of technical delays, the July/August edition of the All Around Arrowhead newsletter was not able to be published. However, this edition is an expanded edition which includes summer event recaps as well as upcoming fall happenings. The next edition will be the November/December issue which is a double issue mailed to ALL APOA members and contains detailed end-of-year budget and voting information.
