Come to the Love INC Praise Festival & Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, July 31st featuring Christian bands from area churches. It will be in conjunction with River City Days at City Square Park, downtown Chaska. A large tent will protect us in case of rain. Pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee will be served from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Suggested donation for breakfast is $5 adults, $2 for children 5-12, under 5 free. Praise Festival is free and open to the public. Enjoy great music, good food, community outreach, and fellowship. HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR AUGUST

World Youth Day — That World Youth Day in Madrid may encourage young people throughout the world to have their lives rooted and built up in Christ.

Western Christians — That Western Christians may be open to the action of the Holy Spirit and rediscover the freshness and enthusiasm of their faith.

From Fr Doug Sometimes a question comes to mind that we find ourselves reluctant to ask. Instead of appreciating our ability to learn, we worry about showing our ignorance or offending the questioned. That is the sort of awkwardness that limits us on this side of the king-dom where there is resistance to good – learning is good! Our wiring has the resistance of pride: it is easier to criticize our neighbor than to confront our own faults. If we don’t like some-thing, rather than asking someone to help fix it, it becomes easier to engage in speculative gossip about it, thus inhibiting the light of truth. Sometimes we don’t ask a question because we cannot or do not want to hear the answer. Seeking good and living the law of love requires the pursuit of truth. We risk shorting our wiring and allowing darkness to take our hearts if we prefer to blame others for our failures rather than trying to learn from our mistakes. We live in the mystery of good and evil. The root of our sinful nature is that we wanted self-determination in everything; our pride ruled us even though God gave us the option of perfection. God accepted our fallen nature and continues to love us. God has graciously and mercifully sustained our option of perfection through redemption, if we decide to seek what is good. In spite of the fault of Adam, God chose to become one of us. Jesus experientially understood our human nature and recognized that we are sometimes afraid to ask questions. In his parables, he found a timeless way to help us understand with practical and sometimes contradictory analysis – in such contemplation is learning. In our day-to-day lives, there are important questions we should ask the person in the mirror. We need to honestly ask ourselves if we are growing toward the pursuit of peace and unity or falling toward conflict and division. We need to always evaluate our motives and recognize our inclination to self-righteousness and control. Fortunately, we also crave peace and love. Mimicking the clever wordplay of the parables, I hope you find these questions thought-provoking: • Am I feeding the hungry to help them feed themselves or am I

seeking to control their hunger? • Am I giving the thirsty what they need or am I increasing their

thirst? • Am I welcoming the stranger or am I reluctant to understand

people who seem strange? • Am I clothing the naked to cover them or am I seeking to control

their exposure? • Do I care about the ill, or do I expect someone else to do it? • Do I see people as the reflection of the image and likeness of God

or do I discard those who are of no personal benefit? Whatever your answers, consider what makes you tick. Then prayer-fully consider the teachings of Christ to steer your inclinations toward what is good. Ask the questions and you will learn. ——————————————————————————————-—- On a lighter note, if you have a question you have always wanted to ask a priest but have been afraid to ask, or if you have questions about parish issues or techniques, please send them to me. Periodically, I will do a bulletin piece answering some of these questions. Good questions also stimulate good homilies, so you might hear the long answer! Unless noted otherwise, I will always assume the questioner wishes to remain anonymous. If you already know the answer, then simply make the statement so that I may consider your point. If you wish to send it anonymously, put the word “question” where the re-turn address would normally be.

Por el Padre Doug A veces una pregunta viene a nuestra mente y nos encontramos renuentes a preguntar. En lugar a apreciar nuestra habilidad para aprender, nos preocu-pamos acerca de mostrar nuestra ignorancia o ofendemos en lugar de pregun-tar. Esto es una fuente de incomodidad que nos limita en este lado del reino donde encontramos una resistencia a lo bueno-- aprender es bueno! Nuestro “alambrado’ tiene la resistencia del orgullo: es mas facil criticar a nuestro vecino que confrontar nuestras propias faltas. Si algo no nos gusta, en lugar de pedirle a alguien que nos ayude a solucionar esto, comienza a ser mas facil especular en un chisme que enfrentar la luz de la verdad. A veces no hacemos una preguntar porque no podemos o no queremos escuchar la respuesta. Actuar bien y dentro de la ley del amor, require perse-guir la verdad. Nos arriesgamos a acortar nuestro “alambrado” y dejamos que la obscuridad se apodere de nuestros corazones cuando preferimos culpar a los otros de nuestras propias faltas en lugar de tratar de aprender de nuestros errores. Vivimos en el misterio de lo bueno y lo malo. La raiz de nuestro pecado origi-nal es que queremos tomar nuesteras propias determinaciones en todo; nuestro orgullo nos guia, aun cuando Dios nos ha dado la opcion de la perfec-cion. Dios acepto nuestro pecado original y continua amandonos. Dios, amable-mente y misericordiosamente sufrio por darnos la opcion de perfeccion a travez de su redencion, si decidimos buscar a Dios. A pesar de la falta de Adan, Dios quizo ser como nosotros. Jesus experimento y entendio nuestra naturaleza humana y reconocio que a veces tenemos temor de hacer preguntas. En sus parabolas, el encontro una manera facil de ayudarnos a entender con ideas practicas y a veces contradictorias, en cuyo seguimiento podriamos aprender. En nuestra vida diaria, hay muchas preguntas importantes que deberiamos hacer a la persona que esta reflejada en nuestro espejo. Necesitamos honestamente preguntarnos si vamos persiguiendo la paz y la unidad o estamos callendo en conflicto y en la division. Siempre necesitamos evaluar nuestros motivos y reconocer nuestra inclinacion a sentir que siempre estamos en lo correcto y tenemos control en todo. Afortunadamente, tambien ansiamos la paz y el amor. Imitando la habilidad del juego de palabras en la parabolas, espero que tu encuentres estas preguntas y respuestas: Estoy yo alimentando al habriento para ayudarle a alimentarse o estoy bus-

cando controlar su hambre? Estoy dandole a los sedientos lo que ellos necesitan o estoy aumentando su

sed? Estoy dandole la bienvenida al extraño o no quiero entender cuando la gente

parece ser un extraño? Estoy vistiendo al desnudo para cubrirlo o para controlar su desnudez? Me preocupo por el enfermo, o espero que alguien mas lo haga? Veo a la gente como reflejo de la imagen y semejanza de Dios o estoy descar-

tando aquellos que no me hacen falta ni me benefician? Cualquiera que tus respuestas hayan sido,considera que te ayudaran a con-tinuar. Entonces cuando estes en completa oracion piensa en las enseñanzas de Cristo para guiar tus inclinaciones a lo que es bueno. Mass Intentions … Mass intentions may be for the living and the de-parted, with a + designating in the bulletin a deceased person. There is a $10 suggested donation per Mass intention. Permission from the sick person or his/her family must be granted before a name’s inclusion in these prayers. To schedule a Mass intention, call Jean in the parish office (see contacts, page 2).

Baptism … Sacramental preparation is required for all parents. God-parents and Grandparents are also encouraged to attend. Baptismal prep sessions are given every other month and Baptism Masses are held once a month. Call Jean in the parish office (see contacts, oppo-site page) to schedule a child for Baptism and the parents for baptismal prep.

Prayers of the Faithful ….If you would like a name included in our Prayers of the Faithful for the sick, please call the Parish Office.

Penance...Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and anytime by ap-pointment.

Matrimony...pre-registration required one year in advance; marriage preparation course is required.

Anointing… 1st weekend of the month following each Mass. For other requests, please contact the office.

Communion for the Homebound...When we come together to pray at our Eucharistic liturgy, we do not forget the members of our community who are unable to be with us because of ill health. We remember them in our prayer, and we wish to include them in our Holy Communion. Members of our community bring the Blessed Sacrament to them to comfort them and to unite them with us in the Eucharist. We are not always aware of those who have this need. Please call the Parish Of-fice to let us know if you or a member of your family would like to have Holy Communion brought to them. That way we can schedule a time for our ministers to visit and bring the Sacrament.

Hospital, Nursing Home, Homebound Visits...Churches are no longer notified by hospitals or nursing homes when a parishioner is admitted unless the family has requested it. If you or a family member are homebound, hospitalized or in a nursing home and would like a visit from a member of the pastoral ministry staff, please call Jean Rief in the parish office (see contacts, page 2).

The AngelFest Tour Committee will be meeting Tuesday, August 2 at 7:00 PM in the New Refectory of the Friary. Refreshments start at 6:45 PM. New parishioners are encouraged to attend. This is a great way to learn about the heritage of our parish community and to share it with others.

By now, many of us have heard about the new Roman Missal, but few of us understand the changes that will begin at the start of the new liturgical year in Advent (officially, November 27th). Father Doug has already begun helping us to understand the changes and will continue to do so at our weekend Masses. Families with children in 2nd, 9th, and 10th grades – you will receive Sacramental Preparation information for your child in August. We will send information to any student who was in one of our approved religion programs last year (Wednesday evening FF and GA school). If you are new to the parish please call 952-227-4000 and give us your contact information so that we can send you any necessary items for registration. PLEASE note the Archdiocesan guidelines state that you must be enrolled in an approved religion program the year prior to sacramental prep.
