Hello Lions,

By the time you read this Scott and Steve will be heading back from Hawaii all fired up and ready to get going with a new Lions year. So much to get excited about new DG and new 1st and 2nd DG’s as well as many new Zone Chairs. This combined with so many new club Presidents. The energy is going to be contagious. I see many new Lions in our future. Now is the time to start recruiting new members. Explain to your prospective members all the good that Lions do. Show them what your club does to help the community, district and Lions International. Talk about our vision screening initiative and how Lions International is usually the first service organization when disaster hits. The goal will always be to increase membership, the challenge will be to get these new Lions involved with your club. I look forward to meeting all the new members and to work with you to make our organization stronger. 3 years in a row our District has increased membership. Sadly this is not what is happening around the country. We are doing a great job building a strong cohesive organization. Con-gratulations! I look forward to seeing you at our first Cabinet meeting of the new Lions year. Proud to Serve With All Of You,

Al Goldstein 1st VDG District 44H E: [email protected] H: 603-362-6529 C: 603-913-1281

Hello to my fellow Lions,

First, I must thank all the Lions that invited me to visit their clubs. I felt very welcome and enjoyed a great sense of fellowship. My club members who accompanied me on my visits were very impressed and learned a lot about Lionism. I feel that my club has grown as a result. Again, I must thank all that help with my hospitality room. My club went above and beyond to organize and man the hospitality room. I am personally very proud of the Hampstead Lions Club.

I now start a journey to work at the District level to help with district projects and most importantly to me, to help struggling clubs. One of my most important goals is to work with clubs in any way necessary to improve the health of the club. That could be to grow membership, develop new fund raisers, attend and assist a club with a fund raising event or providing advice and help with issues within the district.

I am looking forward to the next few years to learn as much as possible to aid my fellow Lion and clubs as their 2nd Vice District Governor.

Greetings Fellow Knights of the Blind,

Happy New Year!

A new Lions year begins July 1st and it brings new opportunities to serve our com-munities and those in need around the world; and it brings a lot of fun along the

way. It’s an opportunity to review our goals as individual Lions and combine our energy with our club members and fellow Lions throughout the Multiple District.

It’s an incredible honor to serve as Multiple Council Chair this coming year and I hope to lead by exam-ple and be a motivating force for the Lions throughout New Hampshire. I’m excited about my upcom-ing journey and look forward to working with all of you.

I encourage everyone to get involved and find a project or program that inspires you and gives you passion. I encourage everyone to visit the Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation of NH, the Health Services Board, Lions Twin State Soccer Association, and Lions Youth Services at their monthly meetings. Check the MD directory for dates, times, and locations. I know they would all love to see new faces and would welcome you with open arms. It’s a great way to learn what the Lions of NH are doing around the state and it’s a wonderful opportunity to find your passion.

I would like to personally invite you to our first Multiple District 44 Council Meeting on Wednesday July 22nd at the Airport Diner in Manchester. Social at 6:00 pm, meals ordered at 6:15 pm, and the meeting starts promptly at 6:30 pm. It’s a great way to meet your new leadership team and learn more about the coming Lions year.

Your friend in service,

MCC Terri McGrew H: 603-673-2322 C: 603-554-6822 E: [email protected]

July starts the 2015-2016 Lionistic year and clubs are planning for service projects and fundraisers for the year. While doing this planning make sure you plan for mem-bership changes. How and when are you going to get new members. When will new members be inducted and how will the get orientation to help make them better lions. If you loose members, do you have plans to replace them? Not replacing these losses leaves the club in a weakened state where there may not be sufficient members to perform the projects and fundraisers effectively.

Any club that has less than 20 members should plan to strengthen their club by getting new members. This can me done by just asking someone to help out at a project and if they appear to be Lions worthy, ask them to become a member. The club can potentially get several new members by canvasing the area. Another method is to have your membership chair set up an information booth at your events. This way they can speak to interested people telling them about what the organization does and how your club helps the community.

Have a safe summer and ask someone to join your club and help the less fortunate.

Thanks for all you do. PDG Wayne Auger GMT District 44-H P: 603-429-2725 E: [email protected]

Work Days at Lions Camp Pride ~ June 13th and 14th June 13-14 work days at Camp Pride brought about some big changes in many areas. We can’t thank our volunteers enough for their help in bringing about these improvements. On June 13-15 Members of Salem, Nashua, Atkinson, Hudson, Plaistow, Wolfeboro, Somersworth and Hampstead thank you all for your time and talent. Wes and Roger from the Plaistow lions who did a final cleaning on the shower and laundry building and helped with the picking up of used mattresses.

A Special thank you to Marilyn Davis who helped Marilyn Vaccaro make the lunches for the workers.

Judy and Dick the Arts and Craft building looks great thank you for that you do to make the camp a great place to spend a summer. Along with the safety audit that was conducted. There are also few folks in the recent weeks have given much more than would be expected.

Jerry and Marilyn - the mattresses in all the buildings look wonderful, and should be very much appreciated by all of our clients for many years to come.

The Houde family, the new LED Pole lamps are fantastic and should help with lower cost of operation and much improved lighting during the evenings.

President Al and his tractor, and Bill G. from maintenance thank you for all that you do to make Camp Pride and great place to spend time.

The Wolfeboro Club and all the improvements made to the Admin Building to say thank you would be a understatement for all that your club has done.

Stay tune for more pictures of the camp improvements..

Peter LaPointe Maintenance Committee Chairman and VP Board of Directors Lions Camp Pride

Camp Pride Updates continued The camp is fully staffed now. All are excited and ready to go. Lots of exciting things going on:

Wolfeboro Lions Club has had all new windows and siding installed on the Administration Building. It looks fantastic. The staff is looking forward to being able to open the windows and letting fresh air into the rooms. We are so appreciative of what they have done for us.

Busby Construction one of the biggest road construction companies in the state and an Atkinson Lion brought quite a bit of his equipment up and totally rebuilt our ½ mile of road leading into camp and graded the parking area. Fantastic job by a wonderful crew. One of the workers is a Grandson of Skip Senter who put in the original road to camp and who the Senter Building is named for. This type of thing is special to all of us.

All of the bunk houses now have new mattresses. This is fantastic and we are very happy for all of the donations toward this project. Thanks to Jerry V. for all his hard work and his helpers who set the new mattresses in place and moved out the old ones.

Up-Tack Plumbing owned by Atkinson Lion Lenny Hall sent a team of Plumbers up to camp and worked on all of our Plumbing needs. So thankful to Lenny and his team.

A special thanks to the Lions who came up to our work weekends. While not nearly as any as in the past perhaps we can get a bigger group in the fall.

The board has put together a committee to work on future construction projects so we will have a long and short range plan of the needs of the camp.

Thanks for all you do!

Last fall both Districts 44H and 44N were shown a mock‐up of a possible cross‐hatched Handicap access aisle sign proposed by Lion Ken Jones and PCC Charlie Vars of the Amherst Lions Club, which was unanimously endorsed at both Cabinet Mee ngs as a worthwhile Community Service project.

These signs have been designed to emphasize that the spaces next to a Hcp parking space are not to be parked in by anyone and that the State has now ins tuted RSA's and substan al monetary penal es for doing so.

The sign, shown at right,  has been endorsed by the MS Society and other disability groups, approved by the State of NH, produced at the State Prison and now available to your clubs at a cost of $15.00 each.  The project has also been approved by the legal department at Lions Clubs Interna onal.

While the moun ng holes will already be drilled, your Club will be responsible for moun ng them either on a building or on a metal post procured and erected by the Club.  You will also be responsible for obtaining permission from the business or land‐lord wherever they are to be installed.

Par cipa ng in this worthwhile endeavor will promote and provide visibility for NH Lions Clubs while also protec ng that access aisle for necessary wheelchair use.

Since the State prison system will ONLY sell to one en ty, the Amherst Lions Club has purchased 50 of these signs which can now be ordered by sending a check made out to the Amherst Lions Club for $15.00 each and sent to PCC Charlie Vars, at PO Box 788, Amherst NH 03031.  In order to save your Club any shipping costs, I will agree to personally deliver any signs ordered, to the upcoming Cabinet mee ngs in August.

Diabetes Awareness Three Easy Principles for a Better Diet

I am a huge fan of Dr. Mark Hyman, a nationally renowned phy-sician practicing in Lennox, MA and a professor of functional medicine at Harvard University. Dr. Hyman has many books and publications and a website that is definitely worth checking out. My favorite booklet is called Eat Your Medicine and in it are three simple ways to ensure you are eating for your health.

#1. Eat foods that do not have a food label. This includes meats, eggs, fruits, vegetables; things you might find at the farmers' market.

#2. If you eat items with a food label, there should only be five ingredients or less.

#3. You should be able to recognize those five ingredients.

Sounds simple enough! This eliminates most processed foods full of preservatives and sugars and can be really easy for fol-low. Even if you eat this way for two out of three meals per day, it is worth the effort.

To your health! Marie Hall, RN

Moultonborough Lions Club held their Induction/Award Dinner Meeting Moultonborough Lions Club held their Induction/Award Dinner Meeting on Monday, June 15th. Al Goldstein, 1st Vice District Governor Elect, was the honored guest who performed the induction of the new officers.

It is always sad to see a President step down and many members felt that President John Menken had only just begun, stepping forward when our previous President stepped down. But there is no doubt that all members are ever so thankful for what he did during his short term. He was responsible for bringing members back and getting them involved in the day to day workings of the club. But, once again the pendulum swings and the Moultonborough Lions are excit-ed and looking forward to working with our new President Jeni Williams. She is sure to have a positive impact on the club. From the moment she joined, she became active. She has that Lion Pride!

Lion Mark Cotrupi accepted 1st Vice President and Lion Peter Strople, who was unable to attend the dinner meeting, 2nd Vice President.

Lion(s) Sally Silbulkin is now the new Secretary, Joe Keegan remains Treasurer, Dawn Law is the new Membership Chair, Annie Forts stays on as Tail Twister, and Patricia Keegan continues as Lion Tamer.

The Moultonborough Lions are looking to make a difference in the lives of others. Just think, if you joined the Moultonborough Lions you could be the difference in the Moultonborough Lions.
