Robinwood Residential

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their three day residential

visit in May to Dobroyd Castle, which is situated just on

the hills overlooking Todmorden.

They were constantly kept on the go doing over a dozen

different activities during the weekend to develop their:

physical, mental and team working skills.

Outdoor activities included the usual giant swing and zip

line, along with raft-building and canoeing which were

done on a purpose-built lake at the centre. The children

even had to walk around a cleverly constructed obstacle

whilst blindfolded to test how well they could

communicate with others in their group!

Inside, the children were challenged to: traverse around

two climbing walls, jump off a tall totem pole onto a

trapeze and build a tall tower out of crates without falling

off it.

There were also two rooms with Crystal Maze-type logic

activities in them which the children had to try to solve

together in their groups - the mysterious Dungeon of

Doom and the scary Piranha Pool (which we were told

contained real piranha fish)!

Everyone (staff included) finished the residential very

exhausted but very pleased with all the things which they

had managed to achieve.

Reception had a fun time on their trip to Smithills

Farm near Bolton. Not only did they get to stroke

and feed baby lambs but they also got to ride on a

donkey and a tractor too!

Fun at the Farm

Forest Schools

KS1 enjoyed doing some 'Forest

Schools' work down at

Sunnybrow Nursery exploring

the woodland habitat there,

including looking at the trees

and digging for minibeasts.

Penalty Shoot-Out

The whole school enjoyed doing

a sponsored penalty shoot-out

organised by Pro Score Academy

with half the money raised

going to the charity Action for

Kids with the rest going to us.

Expo-Chef

Expo-Chef did a fantastic whole

school cookery demonstration

in June, teaching the children

how to make a variety of

healthy International dishes.

Lark Hill Place

Year 2 had a nice morning visiting

Salford Museum. They first learnt

about how Victorians used to wash

their clothes before then being given a

guided tour around a reconstructed

Victorian street to find out about all

the different types of shops on it.

The Lowry

Year 4 enjoyed visiting The Lowry art

gallery at Salford Quays in May as part

of their topic work on famous local

people. They admired L.S. Lowry's

paintings and even had a go at

sketching their own pictures inspired

by his work.

Brilliant Boreatton

Year 5 had a brilliant time on their weekend residential to Boreatton Park in June.

They enjoyed: going on the giant swing, riding quad bikes, climbing up the tall

Jacob's Ladder and building some rafts. The weather was really nice and the

children loved the experience of sleeping outside in tents this year.

Royal Wedding

The whole school celebrated the

Royal Wedding by coming to

school wearing: red, white and

blue and holding a big

playground party.

May Day

Year 5 enjoyed doing some

traditional may pole and

country dancing at the annual

Middleton celebrations.

Summer Fair

Everyone had a great time

visiting the attractions at this

year's Summer Fair - from the

traditional tombolas and wet

sponge throwing to: sitting

inside a police van, doing a mini

army obstacle course and even

holding owls!

Science Week

The whole school enjoyed doing a whole week of science-themed activities

in May. KS1 children had to visit each of the different classrooms on

'Science Street' to do lots of hands-on activities and explorations on the

topics of: forces, sounds, materials and plants. KS2 meanwhile rotated

around the four classrooms to do investigations based around: magnets,

keeping things warm, chemical reactions and electricity circuits. Year 3 and

4 even had a go at designing and launching their own rockets outside on

the playground with Mr Kemp!

Reception/Year 1

Miss Danby's class told everyone

about Barnaby Bear's holidays to

London and Spain. They showed

some photographs of the

adventures he'd been up to, and

talked about the different modes

of transport he used to travel

around on.

The last two class assemblies took place this term:

Created by Mr. Haughton
