This book is dedicated to my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Mattson, my friends Lakshmi, Anna, Aurise, and Delanie, and my family…especially my mom because she is a very good artist and I have her skills as a very good drawer.                            

Deep in the emerald sea of the Bahamas, Mother Dolphin and her two babies look for fish to munch on. Dark green seaweed sways silently in the water. A starfish sleeps on a blackish-purplish rock. A warm summery morning awakens. The sun brightens up the ocean and makes it shimmer. Little purple fish come out and swim together in the bubbly water. Mother Dolphin spots them and lets out a squeal for her babies to catch them.  

 

Mother Dolphin and her babies catch the fish and hold them in their mouths. Now they will go to their cave and eat them all up. Her babies play together in the sparkling blue water, while Mother Dolphin glides along with them. Mother Dolphin stops for a moment. She thinks she hears something move behind the rock, but she keeps going. All of a sudden, CHOMP!  

 

 

Out of the blue, a hungry Great White Shark lunges forward and opens his huge jaws. He tries to catch the two baby dolphins. Mother Dolphin needs to protect them! The shark opens his mouth again and bites down angrily. He is starving! But his teeth clack together and miss the baby dolphins. The day is beginning to grow darker and soon it will become night, but the big hungry shark is furious and wants its meal. Mother Dolphin and her babies and speed off toward their cave with the ferocious shark following closely behind.

 

The shark spots a seal bobbing at the surface of the water. It is watching the stars twinkle and shimmer. Suddenly, the shark changes his mind and darts toward the seal instead. Luckily the dolphins escape into their cave. They eat their fish and doze off. The shark never finds them again. While the moon glistens on the water, the Mother Dolphin and her baby sleep and live happily with each other.  

 

About the Author

Juliette Keuchkarian is a 9 year-old girl. She is in Mrs. Mattson’s 3rd grade class. Juliette loves to dance, play, and play basketball, soccer, and field hockey. She likes to hang out with her family and her family members. She loves to play with her little brother Coleman and her baby cousins.
