Anatomy of Our Collection Imagine what Mass would be like if it were without any
Sacred Music. Familiar Sacred Music enhances our
celebration of the Mass and only adds .9% to our annual
budget.
When our organist/choirmaster Lee Barlow is away for a
weekend, the music must go on. Substitute organists are
brought in for the weekend and are compensated for their
time. Most of the musicians who assist with Music Ministry
are volunteers, but we do have occasions where we must
bring in professionals, and those musicians are compensated
for their talent and expertise.
At Mass, we pick up the Gather Hymnal to join in song with
the cantor or choir. On certain occasions, worship aids are
provided. There are costs involved with obtaining proper
licenses to use the music that we sing and play at each Mass.
If you have musical talents and would like an opportunity to
share those talents with the parish, please contact
Lee Barlow to discuss volunteer opportunities:
[email protected] or 317.873.2885 x510.

Weekly Reflection “When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart
was moved with pity for them, for they were like a sheep
without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many
things.” (Mark 6:34) We wander in ignorance, seeking
nourishment for our spirits where there is none to be had,
until the Good Shepherd takes us under his compassionate
care and feeds us on the Word of Life.

Worship
Liturgy and Life by Tim McManus, Pastoral Associate of Worship
There are some days when you’ve just had enough. Like
when the boss is demanding, your prime relationship is
straining, and some kid steps on your last nerve. You’re
tired, you’re exhausted, you’re toasted. There is no more of
you to give to anyone else. It is time to get away to a
deserted place for rest and recreation.
This is certainly what Jesus and his disciples were trying to
do in today’s Gospel. The Twelve had just returned from
their mission to preach repentance, drive out demons and
cure the sick. The last thing they wanted to do was deal with
a large crowd of hungry people who were in search of Jesus.
The problem was that the vast crowd was in a deserted
place. except for them it was the emptiness they felt in their
own souls.
When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things. (Mark 6:34)
Although the people were hungry, the first thing Jesus does
is teach them. He is the Word made Flesh and feeds them
with Scripture. In the following weeks the Gospels tell of
how Jesus feeds the people with the Bread of Life.
Isn’t this just like Mass? First we have the Liturgy of the
Word where the Scriptures feed us from the Table of the
Word, the ambo. Then we have the Liturgy of the Eucharist
where the Body and Blood of Christ feed us from the Table
of Sacrifice, the altar. As the Church teaches:
For in the Mass is spread the table both of God’s Word and
of the Body of Christ, and from it the faithful are to be
instructed and refreshed. (GIRM #28)
Sometimes you cannot get away. The kid that stepped on
your last nerve just may need some love and attention. Just
as Jesus does with the vast crowd, you provide some love
and care.
