Monday Maths

Ask your child to make different groups/lots of 2s,

5s, and 10s. For example, make 3 lots of 5 apples.

Use skip counting skills to find the total. Then ask

children to write out the repeated addition. For ex-

ample, 5 + 5 + 5= 15

Towards the end of the lesson introduce the multi-

plication sign. Show that 5 + 5 + 5 could be written

like 5 x 3 = 15.

English

Start the animal fact file for the fox on page

2 find the information on Twink using this

link. This is a comprehension task so your

child should be encouraged to read back to

the relevant parts of the information sheet

to find the following 3 facts:

What is a fox’s habitat? What do they hunt/

eat? One interesting fact of your choice.

Topic

P.E.

Could you come up with some pirate themed

exercises which work your muscles? Maybe

climbing the rig for 1 minute, squatting low to

scrub the deck, make a plank using your body

etc.

Tuesday Maths

Today recap yesterdays lesson and remind the chil-

dren what the x sign means. It means ‘lots of’. For

example 3 x 5 = 15 (3 lots of 5)

handwriting (ng)

Play dough warm-up

Model joining ng- then complete:

Ring, sang, swung

Sentence- I sang while I swung high on the

swing.

Wednesday Maths

Ask your child to make 20 and then share between

5 equal groups. Do this for more examples within

20. Ask your child to write out their answers, for

example, 20 shared between 5 is equal to 4.

Watch the video ‘Bubbles’ for inspiration for their

own story.

We are going to write our own story about trav-

elling somewhere on the bubbles – they are

going to be the second little girl/boy. Imagine

they have just found the bottle of bubbles when

walking along the beach and act this out. How

are you feeling at the beginning? What will they

do next? How are they feeling when the bubble

starts moving? Where do they think they are

going? Complete the story board pictures on

page 5.

Thursday Maths

Recap yesterday’s lesson but this time explain that

we are using the division sign which means ‘shared

between’. So instead of writing 20 shared between

5 equal groups is equal to 4 we can write 20 ÷ 5 = 4.

English

Complete the writing for each section of the

story board. We want children to use at

least one conjunction/linking word for each

paragraph e.g. and, so, because, but,

when. We want adjectives and careful

punctuation too. If your child needs a little

recap on how to use linking words you

could provide them with a range of sen-

tences and they can choose a linking word

to “link” them.

Geography

Look at a wold map– discuss the seven continents

and 5 oceans. If possible find and print an unla-

belled map to be able to label. This can be updat-

ed as the week’s go on and with every new coun-

try we “visit”.

JTKYG– 8th June 2020

We hope that you had a restful

weekend and are ready for some

new home learning activities. This

timetable is roughly inline with when

we will be teaching these areas at

school but as always please adapt

and make it work for you. Please al-

so timetable in time for reading and

phonics practice. To tie in with our

Pirate Topic, we will be focusing on

geography this term. Each week we

will explore a new continent and

country. This will include learning

about particular traditions and cultur-

al differences. We will also learn

about the different animals that can

be found in each of the countries.

This week we are focussing on the

U.K.

Year One Team

Thoughtful

Colour of the

week is black.

‘Bee’ pure– bees love pure nectar. It

is all they want. This week we will

think about being pure in mind, spir-

it and body.

Think about any mistakes you have

made in the past and how they

made you feel.

Do you learn from your mistakes

and successes?

What do we mean by being ‘pure’?

When do we feel most at ease and

whole?

We love this idea! First make the

parrot head then ask your child to

draw around their hand a few times.

Colour/paint the hands and head

before sticking them together.

Friday Maths

Using pirate themed division and multiplication word

problems, ask your child to choose whether it is a

problem involving sharing an amount between equal

groups or having to multiply an amount to get a new

whole amount.

English

Re-read your story so far. How can you

improve it? Could you add more adjectives

to describe the nouns you have used?

Have you used the correct punctuation?

You may like to write it up as one big story

or just use today to edit and finish off the

story board. Of course you must show it off

by reading the whole thing out aloud.

Geography

Continue to complete the animal fact file for the

hedgehog and barn own. What are these animals

habitats? What do they eat? Which facts do you

find most interesting. Twinkl does have fact files

available on both these animals like the one in-

cluded in this document for the fox. However, it

may be nice to use the National Geographic vide-

os available for these animals.

45 + _ = 50 30 - _= 20 Draw an Oval

Count in 10s starting from 15- how far can you go?

+ 22 =

Animals in the UK.
