-Community coalitions facilitate changes in community outcomes and conditions by addressing issues and determinants of health and well-being. The purpose of the present study is to examine the process of a community coalition, the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council (INC), in addressing community-prioritized urban health determinants aimed at improving living conditions in a neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. Using an empirical case study design, the implementation of the community change framework supported through the Kauffman Neighborhood Initiative is examined. The results suggest that the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council was effective in implementing 117 community changes; and these changes were associated with modest improvements in targeted outcomes related to housing and crime. A 10-year follow-up probe indicates that the majority of recurring community changes were sustained. The results suggest that the comprehensive community initiative was important in facilitating community change that may have contributed to improvements in addressing urban health determinants.

-Open Access URL: http://www.jcomjournal.com/reports-from-the-field-evaluation-of-a-diabetes-care-coordination-program-for-african-american-women-living-in-public-housing/-ABSTRACT ?Çó Objective: To examine the implementation of the Diabetes Care Coordination Program (DCCP) and its effects on diabetes-related clinical health outcomes. ?Çó Methods: Program participants were African American women (n = 148) with type 2 diabetes who lived in public housing in Boston?ÇÖs Roxbury neighborhood. Through the DCCP, Whittier Street Health Center?ÇÖs clinical team provided diabetes self-management education, support, and comprehensive diabetes care using the patient-centered medical home model and Diabetes Health Ambassadors as mediators for program delivery. Core intervention components of the DCCP included: 1) diabetes self-management education, 2) support for managing diabetes and distress, 3) enhancing access and linkage to care, 4) improving quality of care, 5) community organization, mobilization, and advocacy, and 6) health system and community transformation. A participatory monitoring and evaluation system was used to document and systematically reflect on program implementation. ?Çó Results: DCCP implementation was associated with modest improvements in diabetes-related clinical health outcomes for program participants. Results showed statistically significant improvements in HbA1c (P = 0.016), weight (P = 0.021) and



diastolic blood pressure (P = 0.027). ?Çó Conclusion: Using neighborhood Diabetes Health Ambassadors for program delivery has implications for assuring access to quality diabetes care for populations experiencing health disparities.

-Community capacity may be enhanced through intermediary supports that provide training and technical assistance (TA). This study used a randomized pre/posttest design to assess the impact of training and TA on coalition capacity. Seven community coalitions from the Midwest participated in the 2-year study, which included 36 hours of training, followed by monthly TA calls to support action planning implementation for prioritized processes. Collaborative processes most commonly identified as high-need areas for TA were Developing Organizational Structure, Documenting Progress, Making Outcomes Matter, and Sustaining the Work. Based on a coalition survey, the average change for processes prioritized through TA across all seven coalitions was .27 (SD = .29), while the average change for non-prioritized processes was .09 (SD = .20) (t(6) = 4.86, p = .003, d = 1.84). The findings from this study suggest that TA can increase coalition capacity for implementing collaborative processes using a participatory approach.

This panel and discussion are a follow-up to the open forum on these issues at the 2018 ABAI Convention. The panel presentation will provide information on (a) the challenges faced by organizations like ABAI, (b) options for addressing those challenges using a constructional strategy, (c) reports on the work being done by the ABAI Diversity, Respect, and Inclusion Task Force and the ABAI Council going forward, (d) the realities of and approaches to manage and weaken the implicit biases that all carry, and (e) how behaviorists can begin to engage with these issues within our organization, but also in work and community settings, as behavioral and cultural analysts. Our science offers specific knowledge and alternatives for shaping and maintaining diverse, equitable, and inclusive cultures organizationally and in the community. Promoting Diversity and Inclusion in Behavioral Science. Behavior analysis has addressed issues of social justice since the early formation of its field. Early basic and theoretical work provided promise for addressing such issues, while the advent of applied behavior analysis explicitly demonstrated the power of behavioral science in addressing issues of societal concern. Despite the celebrated social validity of behavior analysis, issues of diversity and inclusion persist. This panel features three scientists who have effectively addressed issues of diversity and inclusion in their own laboratories. The discussion will highlight ways to foster diversity and inclusion in the operations and makeup of lab groups, in addition to discussing ways behavior analysis can
