Approach

Multiphased SBS Basic Neutron Form Factor measurement Proton Form factor measurement

5

Goals and Objectives

Construct a multipurpose spectrometer system capable of handling high momentum with large solid angle and momentum acceptance and extreme rate capabilities in the detectors.

Make precise measurements of the neutron and proton form factors. The neutron form factor measurements only

require a partial completion of the SBS The proton form factor measurement will

require its full capability.

6

SCOPE

Modified 48D48 magnet (from BNL) Associated platforms, shielding, power

supply, target chamber, and beamline GEM detectors for high rate position tracking Associated GEM electronics (front end

processing and DAQ) Trigger electronics

Risk Management

In general risks are all small Magnet is very low riskGEM’s are low risk, but expect some failures

Will deal with GEM risk by preparing a number of spares (electronics

and GEM’s)

17

EH&S

All phases of the SBS project will be carried out in accordance with the Jefferson Lab Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures as documented in the Jefferson Lab “EH&S Manual” including obeying all local, state and federal regulations.

SBS project work will be conducted under the laboratory’s existing Integrated Safety Management (ISM) Program. ISM is an integral part of Jefferson Lab’s management structure spelled out in detail in the “EH&S Manual”, the “Quality Assurance Manual”, and various management manuals and training documents. Proposed project work will be performed under the standards and codes set forth in the TJNAF DOE JSA contract, Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1926, 10 CFR851, and Virginia OSHA as supplemented by Jefferson Lab work rules.
