    ENGAGED June 12June 18

Day 5Peter had made the necessary

connection between the words of Jesus andJesus Himself. To receive Christ is toreceive His Word. To receive His Word is toreceive Him! They are always takentogether! Because Peter had placed his faith

in Jesus and in His Word, Peter was madethe partaker of two great possessions. These two possessions allowed Peter tomake an absolute commitment of his life tothe Lord Jesus Christ. Those twopossessions are:1. Faith - ("we believe") An inward convictionthat Jesus is Who He claims to be.2. Experience - ("and are sure") A changedlife, a full heart and a new desire and

direction in life are all to potent to beignored.Have you truly accepted and becomepartaker of both of these possessions? If not, what is holding you back? Thedifficulties of His teaching; the absence of His presence; the majority that walks away?

Day 4The very fact that Peter answers this

way tells me that he had considered walkingaway. But nothing appealed or offered whatJesus teaching could. Peter was a realman and considered the opinion of themajority. But he also considered the

consequences of following the majority. Many people look to whatever the majoritybelieves. For example, what their peersthink or whatever the latest polls indicate;but consider the words of Jesus indescribing the end of the majority - Mt 7:13-14. If Peter followed the majority in Noah'sday, he would have perished in the flood. If he had followed the majority in Joshua'sday, he would have perished in thewilderness. Many people today are simplyfollowing the majority. What about you? Asyou consider your options about howclosely to follow Jesus, how prevalent is themajority in your thinking?

John 6:68 But Simon Peter answered Him, Lord,to whom shall we go? You have thewords of eternal life.

    Day 1

When Jesus talked about givingeternal life to those who ate His flesh anddrank His blood, those concepts were sospiritual; some listeners felt Jesus had to be anut case. Nothing made sense. Some just hadto walk away. They liked all of Jesus wordsabout Gods love and tender care for them.

They liked Jesus healing of people andfeeding thousands, but they could not acceptthese spiritual words. They didnt want to listenanymore. As they walked away, we read inverses 67-69, Jesus said therefore to thetwelve, You do not want to go away also, doyou? Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, towhom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. And we have believed and havecome to know that You are the Holy One of God.

And that is our question. Lord, to whom shallwe go? Jesus spiritual statements wereimpossible to understand. Even though Peter could not understand those words, there wasplenty else he did understand. All of Jesusmiracles, His clear understanding of theScriptures and daily walk with God, pointed tothe fact that He had to be the Holy One of God. Jesus was like what the Old Testamentprophesied about. No one else was capable of doing all that Jesus did. No one else was able

to be so righteous in everything He did. No oneelse was able to make such good commonsense out of the Scriptures like Jesus did.Almost as if He was the author (haha). Butthere are times when what we do knowoutweighs what we cannot figure out. This issuch a case. Peter could not figure Jesus outcompletely but knew enough to remain faithful.

Consider your life: are there things that onlyGod can do? Do you trust your own ability or are you completely trusting in His?

Begin praying today that God will revealHimself in your life, in ways that only He canreceive credit

Day 2What were we made for? Whats the

greatest thing we can aim for in this life? Toknow God. What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, contentment, life andhappiness, than anything else? Knowledgeof God. Thus says the Lord: Let not the

wise man glory in his wisdom, let not themighty glory in his might, let not the rich manglory in his riches; but let him who glories, glory in this, that he understands and knowsme (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

One of the greatest truths of the Christianfaith is that we can know the living God. Our knowledge of God is not simply limited toknowing something about God, but we can

know God personally. The essence of Christianity, and what makes it distinct fromJudaism and other religions, is theknowledge of God as our Father. Jesusmakes it possible for each of us topersonally know God as our Father. To seeJesus is to see what God is like. In Jesus wesee the perfect love of God a God whocares intensely and who yearns over menand women, loving them to the point of

laying down his life for them upon the Cross.Jesus is the revelation of God a God wholoves us completely, unconditionally andperfectly.

Day 3For me anyway, my feelings on

spiritual dryness, borne of periods of doubt, are this: sometimes it might behard to believe its true; but itsimpossible to believe its not true. Suchis my faith at times. I sometimes find

myself in dark places of despair, buteven in those times when believing ishard; it is impossible not to believe. Findsomeone you trust and tell them your difficulties of belief (if any)
