John 1:40-50

We have found the Messiah….. Come and see!

40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?

Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these

What a Find!!

A) What things have you found in life? l. Money 2. Jewelry 3. Purse 4. Wallet 5. Pocket knife 6. A rare coin… or a rare Turkey Call?

Nothing comparable to finding Jesus… 1. A friend John 15:14 2. A helper Phil. 4:13 3. The Messiah…Christ…all the devout Jews had

looked forward to that day... John 6:67-68 4. Some have found him, yet turned away. (Rich young ruler ..Matt. 19:16-22 (Some chief rulers .. John 12:42 Nevertheless

among the chief rulers also many believed on him, but because of the Pharisees they would not confess him, less they should be put out of the synagogue43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”)

When we Find Him, WeMust Look Unto Him…And Follow Him!

To Him, and No Other!! Heb. 12:1-2

I Pet. 2:21

When we find the Messiah, we do not look unto Men 1. For ‘faith’….cf. Rom. 10:17 2. For ‘direction’… John 14:6 Jerm. 10:23 3. For ‘edification’..Acts 20:32 4. For ‘hope’..Rom. 8:24;I Thess. 4:13-18 but we look‘ to the Messiah for our

salvation’..and everything we need in life. Acts 4:12

Don’t look unto the council’s of men

Synod: , an assembly of ecclesiastics or other church delegates, convoked pursuant to the law of the church, for the discussion and decision of ecclesiastical affairs; ecclesiastical council.

Creeds: .. an authoritative, formulated statement of the chief articles of Christian belief, as the Apostles’ Creed,, the Nicene Creed, etc….

.

Convocation: a group of people gathered in answer to a summons; assembly.

Catechism: Recognized as the greatest summary of Catholic dogma ever put between two covers.

Dogmas : an official system of principles or tenets concerning faith, morals, behavior, etc., as of a church.

Synonyms: doctrine, teachings, set of beliefs, philosophy

Look unto Jesus and let HimSettle the Matter..

He has all authority. Mtt. 28:18-20 Col. 3:17; Eph. 1:22,23; Eph. 4:1-6 His Word is simple, plain and clear. John 12:48 ; Psalms 119:104-105; His Way is the Only way to Heaven. John 14:6; Isa. 55:8-9; Mtt. 7:13-14

Matters that need to be settled!

What name are you going to call “his” Church? ..He is it’s head.. Col. 1:18 ..He purchased it with his blood..Acts

20:28 ..He adds the saved to it. Acts 2:47 ..Early churches were called ‘churches of

Christ”…Rom. 16:16

When shall we eat the Lord’s Supper…?

Sunday;Mon.;Tues.;Wed.;Thurs;Fri.;Sat.; Or does it make any difference? The followers of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, ate on Sunday, the first day of the week! Acts 20: 7 And upon the first day of the week, when the

disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Is there any other scripture stating that the Lord’s Supper was eaten on another day?

Can Men (and) Women BeElders, Preachers?

Jesus Chose Men. All of His apostles were MEN.

His qualifications For Elders: “If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work”….I Tim. 3:1

..husband of one wife…I Tim. 3:2

Elders …Men or Womenor Men and Women???

Elders 1. God does not think more of a man than he does a

woman. He made us both 2. But God chose man to be the leader 3. When he gave the qualifications for elders he

required that he be a husband and a father. 1 Timothy 3:1-7 4. When a woman is appointed it is Substitution for

Biblical authority and is wrong.

Preachers: Men or or Women…or Men andand Women

1. 1 Timothy 2:12 KJV “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority

over the man, but to be in silence.” ASV “But I permit not a woman to teach, nor

to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.”

2. Women are not allowed to preach and teach in an audience of men and women.

3. Women can teach other women - Titus 2:3-4 - older women are to teach the

young women.

4. But there are some churches allowing women to preach to both men and women in

violation of God’s word! a. 4th Avenue Church of Christ in Franklin, Tenn.

Allows a female student at Lipscomb University to preach. b. She is a preaching intern - preached on a Sunday

morning. 5. This church just ignores or downplays the verses

that prohibit women from teaching or usurping authority over the man !

We Have Found the Messiah

Come and See! JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF GOD!

THUS,

We will speak where He speaks,

We will remain silent where He

is Silent!

Why should we look unto Him?

1. Because of Who He is. The Son of God. Mtt. 17:1-5; Mtt. 1:21

2. Because of What He has done. He died for us I Pet. 2:21; Heb. 5:8-9; Rom. 5:8,9

3. Because it is Before Him that we must Be judged. Rom. 2:16 16 In the day when God

shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.“; Acts 17:30-31

When should we look unto Him?

1. When we have sinned, and need forgiveness from God.

a)The People who crucified him. Acts 2:36

b) The man who persecuted Him..Saul, who persecuted Him. Acts 9:1-8 I am Jesus whom thou persecutest !

I Tim. 1:15; Acts 23:1; Acts 26:9

What will He do for us whenwe look and come unto Him!

1. Like the Corinthians, He will forgive us. Acts 18:8 And many of the Corinthians, Hearing, believed and were baptized. I Cor. 6:11 ..but ye are washed, but ye are

sanctified, but ye are justified! “in the name of The Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God”!

2. Like the Euthiopian Eunuch, when he was baptized, went on his way rejoicing.

Acts 8:35-39

Like Zacchaeus, Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place,

he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. Zacchaeus

took JESUS home with him. When we obey Jesus, by looking unto Him and

receiving His instructions, we can Truly say…”I have found the Messiah!” Andrew told Simon Peter… Come and See!

Yes, like Philip, We have Foundthe Messiah! Come and See..

What a privilege for us to Find Him

What a joy to come to Him…

What a honor to look unto Him…and share HIM with others!!

And what a Great Day when we shall see Him!....

When we have found HIM, we will Truly want to do as Andrew and Philip! Share Him with others.. Tell others about Him. Let others know how much He means to

us!

You Never Mentioned Him To Me..

When in the better land before the bar we stand,How deeply grieved our souls will be;If any lost one there should cry in deep despair,"You never mentioned Him to me."

CHORUS: You never mentioned Him to me,You helped me not the way to see;You met me day by day and knew I was astray,Yet never mentioned Him to me."

O let us spread the word _ where e'er it may be heard,Help groping souls the light to see,That yonder none may say, "You showed me not the way."You never mentioned Him to me. CHORUS

A few sweet words may guide a lost one to His side,Or turn sad eyes on Calvary; So work as days go by, that yonder none may cry,"You never mentioned Him to me." CHORUS

All Because

We have found the Messiah…Come and see.

Hear His Word. Rom. 10:17 Believe what you hear. John 8:24 Repent. Acts 2:28 Confess Christ. Rom. 10:8-10 Be Baptized. I Pet. 3:21 Follow Him faithfully

But, when we err

Confess it. Admit it. I John 1:9 I John 2:1-2

Pray for God’s forgiveness. Ask others to pray for you..

James 5:16; James 5:19-20.” Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
