    New York City ReliefOutreach Team LeaderJob Description

    We are looking for a proven team leader who is confident in training, servingalongside, and motivating groups of people in their short-term missionsexperience while simultaneously developing relationships with the poor andhomeless by progressing them towards a place of getting real help with detox,

    rehab, shelter, job, medical and spiritual direction. A hard working motivatedteam player with a fantastic attitude is a must.

    This full-time position would include leading daily outreach to the homeless usingour mobile homeless resource centers/soup kitchens known as The ReliefBuses.

    A Day In The Life of the Outreach Team LeaderYour morning would begin with meeting your short-term missions team orvolunteers at The Relief Base and greeting them with an excited inspiringattitude. After training your team you would facilitate the making of soup, drinksand picking up bread from a bakery in Newark. Gathering your team for prayer,you will lead them in the famous These things we do, So that others may Livecheer before loading up your team on one of the two Relief Buses.

    You would then drive them into a carefully selected New York City or New Jerseylocation while leading them in prayer and worship until you park The Relief Busfor outreach. Some volunteers may meet you at the location where you will thendo an on the spot training of rules, safety and why we do what we do. One ofyour goals is to facilitate and supervise outreach by successfully delegating thefood and clothing distribution, relationship building and prayer on the sidewalksand helping to move the team into different serving responsibilities so they canget the full experience.

    During the outreach, homeless and poverty stricken people will need to meet withyou as the Outreach Team Leader to get connected to resources such as shelter,

    job info, detox, rehab, and more as well as to advise and pray for their needs.You will be responsible for interviewing them and writing referrals. When theoutreach is wrapping up at 1:30pm you will direct clean up tasks with the

    volunteers and then drive back to The Relief Base to serve alongside your teamwith cleanup. Finally at the end of the outreach you will direct a session ofdebriefing the team, answering questions and letting them share their experiencewith the group to conclude their outreach.

    Some of our outreaches take place in the evenings. On those days you wouldstart the day in the afternoon and conclude later in the evening.

    CommunityCommunity is at the heart of our staff, who consider each other as family. We allparticipate each Tuesday morning for a time of worship, prayer, discipleship,training and business meetings. They are key times of community building,deepening of relationships and accountability that create a culture ofinterdependence and encouragement.

    The theme for our community is Fighting for each others hearts. Our key verse

    for this is Hebrews 10:24,25: And let us considerand

    give attentive, continuouscare to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate andincite) to love andhelpful deeds andnoble activities,Not forsaking orneglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit ofsome people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another,and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.

    Urban Missionary Fundraising or Friend RaisingAll team members raise their own support to work at New York City Relief asurban missionaries. Prior to coming on staff, new candidates create a targetbudget with the help of our excellent leadership team. We will pay for you toattend one of the top missionary fundraising training seminars in America byflying you there and putting you up in a nice hotel for your two-day training withThe Center For Mission Mobilization: (www.mobilization.org/).

    After your completion of the training, you would be expected to implement yournew fundraising strategies. New York City Relief provides a staff person to serveas a coach and support to you during that period. After raising 80% of your targetbudget, you would then come on board officially as Associate Staff. You wouldraise the remaining 20% while serving on staff in your respective position. Thishas been used successfully with all of our new staff. We have staff who havefamilies of six to support as well as a single person and everything in between.Our team enjoys utilizing their fundraising opportunities to spread a heart for thepoor to individuals and churches nationwide.

    CompensationNew single staff members receive a monthly housing allowance of $300, orreceive housing in a staff apartment. Married staff members or staff memberswith children receive a monthly housing allowance of $600.

    Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO medical insurance, including dental, is provided forall staff members.

    After one year of working with our organization, team members enter regularStaff status and are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of $1,000.

    ScheduleWork schedule for this position is TuesdaySaturday. When leading dayoutreaches the schedule is 7:30am-4pm. When leading night outreaches theschedule is approximately 2:00pm-10:30pm.

    New York City ReliefVolunteer Trainer/CoordinatorJob Description

    We are looking for a proven leader who is confident in publicspeaking/teaching/preaching and/or training. Applicant needs to have computerskills, be administratively gifted and have vision for overseeing coordination ofvolunteers serving on The Relief Bus outreach. A hard working motivated teamplayer with a fantastic attitude is a must.

    Key responsibilities for this full-time position include the training of teamsconcerning urban missions and ministry to the poor and periodically participatingwith teams in outreach to the homeless. Other responsibilities involve bookingteams to stay at our urban missions base, The Relief Base as well ascoordinating logistics for teams such as meals, outreach schedule, buildingaccommodations.

    Volunteer Trainer/Coordinator DutiesWhen teams stay at The Relief Base you would provide urban missions trainingusing our curriculum to inspire and disciple them in anticipation of their dailyoutreaches. Debriefing teams experiences and leading times of prayer andworship is also important. You will help lead and facilitate a life-changingexperience in the lives of the volunteers. Typically their one-week stays with usare part retreat and part mission trip. As they encounter the poor and homelessfor the first time, worldviews are shifted and new vision is shaped. Volunteersreturn home as different people and carry their experiences back with them tofurther transform their own communities.

    This role is crucial in that the better job we can do training volunteers, the moreprepared they are to do a good job ministering on the streets with The Relief Bus.The better job they do, the more lives we see changed: more people prayed for,more people led to Christ, more people connected to detox/rehab to be freedfrom addiction, more people provided food, clothing and shelter.

    Your typical administrative duties would include fielding emails and phone callsfrom the many churches and individuals interested in volunteering on The ReliefBus. Promptly responding to inquiries and impressing on them how much weappreciate them is essential. Emailing vital information to teams is important to

    insure that they are adequately prepared for their volunteer experience. Regularduties include updating the volunteer calendar and communicating with theoutreach team.

    3. Teamwork- Is the person able to work in harmony as part of a team? Arethey able to resolve conflict?

    4. Past experience- Has the person done this kind of work before?

    5. Leadership capacity- Can the person train, mentor, coordinate, superviseor oversee others?

    6. Key needed skills- Does the person have unique skills that are vital to ourorganization?

    7. Problem solving skills- Can the person navigate and overcome challengesor obstacles?

    8. Sobriety- Does the person have victory in areas of life controllingaddictions?

    9. House in order- Is there stability in the management of the family life,marriage and children? Are finances, budgeting and money managementin order?

    11. Support raising agreement- Is the person willing to be trained infundraising and finally, able to raise enough personal support before andduring time of service to sustain his/her personal/family budget?

    12. Health- Is the persons physical, mental and emotional health strongenough to work consistently?

    14. Ability to produce- Is the person able to contribute significantly overall tothe organization?
