JLNotes April The April edition of JL Notes comes with the great expectation and hope that spring is officially on its way!!! Just like the March edition, I would also like to keep the April edition short as there are many developments that I would like to share with all my wonderful students, their families and friends. Great news is coming from the North York Music Festival where so far, every student has performed excellently and has been placed. Congratulations! Another piece of good news is that Julia Mirzoev has won the President Trophy at the Kiwanis Music Festival with an attached cheque of $1,500! I just received the assignment for RCM examinations for Spring Session; it looks like I will be away for couple of weekends in May, examining in Boston, Massachusetts and in Cincinnati, Ohio, and for 2 full weeks in June examining in Thunder Bay and in Calgary. Of course, I will try to make up all or most of the lessons. I would like to remind you about a very special concert that will take place on Saturday, May 2 at the Salvation Army Scarborough Citadel. This is a Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra season’s last subscription concert. In the program, one of the greatest composers of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Turkish Concerto No. 5 in A-Major written by Mozart in 1775. David Lakirovich is the soloist. Also in the program: Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 3 in E-flat, Op. 55 (Eroica). I am sure that this will be one of the most unforgettable nights where we get to hear one of the most incredible music ever written and enjoying a beautiful spring night! Ticket prices are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, $15 for students and $10 for children under 10. I do have tickets so please let me know how many you would like to have and I will put them aside for you. Please make an effort to attend this wonderful concert! News from JVL Summer School for Performing Arts The preparation for the Festival is in full gear. We are now in the process of selecting students for various chamber music ensembles and selecting the repertoire. I can promise you the best season ever! Any new registrations are subject to an availability basis only (we still do have some reserved spots available). Don’t forget to start practicing your scales as the scales competition is real and I encourage everyone to take part. Please do feel free to contact me with any suggestions or concerns that you may have and please don’t forget to check the website www.MusicInTheSummer.com often for updates of information. • Finale Just today, I came across of an amazing recording of Mozarts violin concerto in G major No. 3 performed by a 13 years violinist by the name Daniel Lozakovitj accompanied by the Moscow Virtuosi orchestra with Vladimir Spivakov conducting. I have heard great many recordings of this concerto with many soloists, and can tell you that this one is one of the very few that I thoroughly enjoyed! Very mature interpretation and most beautiful tone, and that of at the age of 13! Here is the link and judge yourself! https://youtu.be/O9MmXc-1A6M We will be in touch within the next few weeks with more updates. In the meantime, listen to music, practice and enjoy the upcoming spring!
