before you get started.
I’ll be the first to admit that talking about Good Friday is not easy, especiallywith young children. The cross is not neat and tidy. It’s gruesome, brutal, anda really heavy topic. It might feel uncomfortable to talk about, but friend, it isnecessary and so important for your kids to begin to grasp the sacrifice thatJesus made on their behalf.
This doesn’t mean that you have to sit your child down and show themgruesome images of Jesus dying on the cross, but I encourage you to not shyaway from speaking about the reality that Jesus died a very brutal death onthe cross. Be real with them and show them that it’s alright to be sad and fullof emotion when talking and thinking about what Jesus did for us.
It is really important for your children to feel the stark contrast between GoodFriday (somber, remembrance, reflective, sadness) and Easter Sunday (incrediblejoy and celebration) because without seeing the enormous sacrifice Jesus madeon the cross and the true weight of that truth, the hope and joy of Hisresurrection won’t be the best news ever.
I encourage you to pray and ask God for wisdom and insight to share with yourkids about the cross and that their hearts would be captivated by the One wholoves them fiercely.
Jesus willingly died in our place to pay the price for our sin and bring us back toGod. Because of His death on the cross we have been brought from death to life. That my friends is a humbling and truly life-transforming truth! I’m praying foryou as you engage with your family and reflect on Good Friday.
I should also add that I think it’s really important to point to Jesus and Hissacrifice throughout the year. It’s not something that should only be reserved forGood Friday. Start by thanking Jesus for dying on the cross each day when youpray with your kids. Or when you sin while you are with your kids, stop and takea moment to admit that you have sinned, ask for their forgiveness, and tell themthat you are a sinner who desperately needs Jesus each and every day and thatyou are so thankful that He died on the cross. You might be amazed at theconversations that are sparked by planting these small seeds each day.
For His Fame, Ashley
Jesus willingly endured more pain than you can everimagine, because His love for you is greater, wider,
higher, and deeper than you can ever imagine.
Why didJesusdie?
What did Jesussay just before
He died?
Does Jesus’ death mean thatall of our sinsare forgiven?
After the LastSupper, Jesus went
to pray. Wheredid He go?
But God demonstrates hisown love for us in this:
While we were still sinners,Christ died for us. [Romans 5:8, NIV]

Resurrection eggs
Paid in full familyreflection activity
You’ll Need:
Instructions:
12 Plastic EggsResurrection Eggs PrintableCardstockThe Following Objects: palm branch (orleaf), small piece of bread/cracker, flower,3 dimes, twine/small string, purple cloth/crown of thorns, 2 small nails, dice, sponge and toothpick, white piece of fabric and spices, rock. (See the next page for a photo of each of these objects)
Fill an egg carton with eggs, use a marker to number the eggs 1-12.
Put the object that coordinates with each number in each egg.
Take turns opening the eggs, reading the scripture, and showing the
object that represents that part of the story. He is risen!*You could also hide the eggs, and then have your kids hunt for them. Once they haveall been found put them in order and take turns opening the eggs to tell the story.
You’ll Need:2 Small Pieces of WoodNailsHammerPieces of PaperPens
Instructions:Nail the two pieces of wood together in the shape of a cross.
As a family take time to write ways that you sin on small pieces of paper(younger kids can draw or dictate and then a parent can write them down).Nail the pieces of paper to the cross (you could also use push pins). Talkabout how Jesus paid the price for our sins in full on the cross. Take sometime to pray together and thank God for sending His Son to rescue andredeem.
Resurrection Eggs are a simple, yet
powerful activity to make with your
family. If you don’t have one of these
objects, get creative with what you
do have. Most of these items you
could even make out of paper.
Remember: It’s not about having the
‘perfect’ set of eggs, it’s about Jesus.
For personal use only. Please do not resell or claim as your own.©the littles & me | Story Alive
