Jerusalem Ulpan: Intensive Modern Hebrew Language Course June 25–July 28, 2013 • 140 academic hours • 7 credits VISITING STUDENTS are invited to study Modern Hebrew this summer at the Hebrew University’s Jerusalem Ulpan, where intensive Hebrew language instruction is offered on six levels, ranging from elementary (Aleph) to upper advanced (Vav). THE JERUSALEM ULPAN attracts students from around the world. Participants have the opportunity to meet new friends from different cultures and continents, as well as a chance to encounter Israeli students and practice speaking Hebrew. CLASSES ARE TAUGHT by professional, experienced staff, with emphasis placed on internalizing the language and practical usage. Teaching methods range from traditional classroom instruction and conversation practice to language laboratory sessions that utilize audio and video programs, as well as sophisticated multimedia courseware. Special activities, such as singing, folk dancing, guest lectures and workshops complement many of the classes. THE PLACEMENT EXAM is designed to assess Hebrew proficiency and is used to place students in the appropriate class according to their level. Both online and paper versions are available. Complete beginners can learn the Hebrew alphabet over the Internet, using Internet Explorer at: http://hebrewverb.hul.huji.ac.il/newtest/pre_abc.html STUDENT HOUSING is available in the Hebrew University dormitory complexes on the Mount Scopus campus, overlooking the incredible panorama of Jerusalem. e kitchens are equipped with stove burners and refrigerators for preparing light meals. Reasonably priced cafeterias and fast food stands as well as small supermarkets and self-service laundry facilities are also available. THE OFFICE OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES staff provides new students with an intensive orientation week that includes a campus tour, a practical Jerusalem guided tour, and a general information meeting. Extracurricular activities including tours are offered throughout the program.
