What will we cover in this unit?

In this unit we will be learning about ecosystems. We will cover the types of ecosystems: Aquatic

and Terrestrial. We will also learn the sub-ecosystems that consist under the two main

types of ecosystems. We will become familiar with the types of animals and plants that are

found in the sub-ecosystems. The children will be able to make their own ecosystem.

What is the role of the teacher in this unit?

What is the role of the parent in this

unit? The role of the parent in this unit is to make sure the children are learning in class. Parents are encouraged to ask children what they learned in school.

Unit Questions:

What animals could be part of an ecosystem?

What are some different regions that may be made up of different climates?

Content Questions:

What are the parts of an ecosystem?

What is the role of the student in this unit?

In the first part of this unit, the teacher will act as the instructor, providing a lesson to the students about ecosystems. The teacher will provide the students with worksheets to help students understand the lesson. The teacher will also provide a quiz for the students. In the second part of the unit, the teacher will

act as a facilitator for the ecosystem project.

What are the

benefits of the unit?

In the first part of the unit, the students are expected to pay attention during the lessons on ecosystems. They are

expected to participate during the class. The students will be required to

complete worksheets and a quiz before beginning the project. In the second part of the unit, they are held to high

expectations for completing their class project of creating their own

ecosystem.

What is project-based learning?

Project-based learning is the approach we will be using to complete the ecosystem project. By definition

project-based learning is a hands-on way of learning that challenges the student to think and learn things for

themselves. Instead of learning by reading books, taking notes, and taking tests, students are challenged

to go above and beyond to learn by doing. We will incorporate project-based learning in the second part of

our unit, consisting of our ecosystem project. For this project, students will design their own ecosystem based on what they have learned. Students are encouraged to

be creative and use the means that they choose. Students could make a real life ecosystem in a jar, draw

an ecosystem, or even use a computer program to make an ecosystem.
