Since 1995, Janssen and

Thomas Jefferson University

have partnered to train early-

career professionals in health

economics and outcomes

research. The goal of the

Janssen Global Market Access

Fellowship program is to

prepare future leaders in the

field of health economics and

outcomes research and market

access. Fellows can tailor

their experience to prepare

for careers in settings such as

the pharmaceutical or medical

device industries, healthcare

systems, managed care

organizations, government,

and academia.

Program Description

Year One

The objective of the first year is to educate the

fellow on health economics and outcomes

research and market access methods through

project experience and didactic study. During

the first year, fellows work full-time with Thomas

Jefferson University faculty to conduct research

projects. Since the background of incoming fellows

will vary, formal course requirements and planned

activities will be tailored to the needs of the

individual fellow. Fellows interested in a master’s

degree may enroll in one of the Jefferson College

of Population Health graduate programs.

Year Two

Fellows will spend their second year of the

Fellowship working with the Janssen Immunology

Global Market Access Department in Horsham,

PA to support evidence generation activities

and market access strategy functions. The

Fellow’s assigned projects and responsibilities

will be tailored to individual educational goals.

The second-year Fellow is expected to take an

active role in research strategy development,

methodological decisions, project management,

presentations at scientific congresses, and peer-

reviewed publication of results.

PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY PRACTICE AND EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS

MEDICAL INFORMATION — CLINICAL PRACTICE FELLOWSHIP JANSSEN SCIENTIFIC AFFAIRS, LLC JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICALS COMPANY OF JOHNSON & JOHNSON TITUSVILLE, NJ, AND HORSHAM, PA

Janssen Scientific Affairs Division of Janssen Pharmaceuticals offers a two-year post-graduate fellowship that provides advanced skill training in medical information (MI), medical communications and clinical practice. The fellowship program provides opportunities to translate complex scientific information into unbiased medical content that supports the safe and effective use of Janssen products.

The two-year fellowship is divided into three rotations that build upon core skills and competencies.

MEDICAL INFORMATION CALL CENTER (6-months):

• Develop competencies in communicating fair-balanced and accurate medical information.

• Enhance interpersonal communications.

• Gain proficiencies in adverse drug event reporting.

MEDICAL INFORMATION (14-months):

• Enhance skills in literature retrieval and analysis.

• Improve scientific writing skills by authoring medical information response documents and escalated medical information requests.

• Utilize critical thinking and clinical knowledge to develop fair and balanced communications of product information.

• Support product launch and sales training material development

• Participate in promotional review meetings as part of the medical review team.

CLINICAL PRACTICE ROTATION (4-months):

• Respond to medical information inquiries from pharmacists and clinicians.

• Compile medical evidence in support/denial of product placement on the hospital formulary.

• Enhance presentation skills by providing formulary presentations at P&T committee meetings.

• Work with Medication Safety team and complete a medication safety project.

• Engage with clinicians and patients to optimize medication regimens.

• Apply clinical knowledge to medication management activities.

Program Objectives:

• To educate the fellow on health economics

and outcomes research and market access

principles needed to assess the value of healthcare

interventions, with an emphasis on research

methodology and peer-reviewed publication

• To provide practical experience in both academic

and pharmaceutical industry settings, working

on cross-functional teams for the generation of

scientific evidence intended to inform decision-

making by healthcare system stakeholders
