A police chief was detained and harassed by federal agents while trav-eling to a constitutional convention before return-ing home to be told he was being placed on administra-tive leave and ordered to disband his police depart-ment after signing a pledge to uphold the bill of rights.

Police Chief Shane Harger of the Jemez Springs, NM Police Department was flying out of Albuquerque Airport last week on his way to a Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Offi-cers Association (CSPOA) convention taking place in Las Vegas. CSPOA is an organization headed up by Sheriff Richard Mack un-der which law enforcement officers gather to re-affirm their commitment to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Before passing security, Harger was approached by a TSA agent who asked the police chief to show his credentials. Moments later, a man claiming to be a “federal agent” also asked to see Harger’s credentials before telling him he was a “person of interest.” The federal agent then demand-ed to know where Harger was traveling to and why.

When Harger told the federal agent he was at-tending the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Offi-cers Association Conven-tion in Las Vegas, he was detained for 35 minutes before finally being al-lowed to board the airplane.

On Tuesday January 28, a day after his return, Harger was placed on ad-ministrative leave and or-dered by Sandoval County, NM, Sheriff Douglas C. Wood to disband his entire police department due to his “political affiliations”.

I found this article among an archive of sto-ries that I have kept for the purpose of publishing it when the time was right. It was sent to El Reportero in May 2012, but it is so relevant to the present, that I decided to print it now.

A f t e r a c e r t a i n p o i n t , it’s not paranoiaThe latest brick in the wall is the predictably named “Moving Ahead For Prog-ress in the 21st Century Act,” also known as Senate Bill 1813. (See here for the full text of the bill itself; the relevant section is 31406.)

This legislation - already passed by the Senate and likely to be passed by the House - will impose a legal requirement that all new cars made beginning with the 2015 models be fitted with so-called Event Data Recorders (EDRs). These are the “black boxes” you may have read about that store data about how you drive - including whether you wear a seat belt and how fast you drive - os-tensibly for purposes of post-accident investigation.

These EDRs are not new. GM and other auto-makers have been installing them in new cars for years - in GM’s case, since the late 1990s. What’s new is the proposed federal man-date, which would make it

illegal to not have one - or (in all likelihood) to remove or disable one in a car re-quired to have the device.

T h e q u e s -t i o n a r i s e s : w h y ?

S e v e r a l p o s s i -bili t ies come to mind:

First, the EDRs could - and almost certainly will be - tied into your vehi-cle’s GPS. (Most new and late model cars, conve-niently, already have this, too.) Then data about your driving can be transmit-ted - as well as recorded. To whom? Your insurance company, of course. Pro-gressive Insurance already has such a system in place - voluntary, for the moment. (See here for more on that.)

Is the U.S. consumer tapped out? If so, how in the world will the U.S. economy possibly improve in 2014? Most Americans know that the U.S. economy is heav-ily dependent on consumer spending. If average Ameri-cans are not out there spend-ing money, the economy tends not to do very well.

Unfortunately, retail sales during the holiday season appeared to be quite disappointing and the middle class continued to deeply struggle. And for a whole bunch of reasons things are likely going to be even tougher in 2014. Families are going to have less money in their pockets to spend thanks to much higher health insurance pre-miums under Obamacare, a wide variety of tax increas-es, higher interest rates on debt, and cuts in govern-ment welfare programs. The short-lived bubble of false prosperity that we have been enjoying for the last couple of years is rap-idly coming to an end, and 2014 certainly promises to be a very “interesting year”.

U n f o r t u n a t e l y f o r them, millions of those families are now being hit with massive health insurance rate increases.

In a previous article, I discussed how one study found that health insurance

premiums for men are going to go up by an average of 99 percent under Obamacare and health insurance premi-ums for women are going to go up by an average of 62 percent under Obamacare.

Most middle class fami-lies simply cannot afford that.

Earlier today, I got an email from a reader that was paying $478 a month for health insurance for his family but has now received a letter inform-ing him that his rate is go-ing up to $1,150 a month.

Millions of families are receiving letters just like that. And to say that these rate increases are a “surprise” to most people would be a massive un-derstatement. Even people that work in the financial industry are shocked at how high these premiums are turning out to be…

“The real big surprise was how much out-of-pocket would be required for our family,” said Da-vid Winebrenner, 46, a financial adviser in Leba-non, Ky., whose deductible topped $12,000 for a fam-ily of six for a silver plan he was considering. The monthly premium: $1,400.

Since Americans are going to have to pay much more for health insurance, that is going to remove a huge amount of discre-tionary spending from the economy, and that will not be good news for retailers.

El trato a Harger es otro indicador de que el gobi-erno federal, junto con las autoridades policiales, ven a los norteamericanos que apoyan la Enmienda de los Derechos como extremistas domésticos. La posición de Harger como Jefe de Policía muestra también que están desesperados para preve-

“Despite having re-ceived a meritorious com-mendation from the Mayor of Jemez Springs on January 22, 2014, it seems that no one in the village govern-ment is willing to come to the assistance of Harger. It appears that Harger’s stance to defend and uphold the Constitution has put him and his entire department of ten part-time and vol-unteers out of business,” writes Vincent Finelli .

Es-tamos conscientes de que con nuestra lucha, que es pacífica pero enérgica, nos enfrentamos a poderes grandes e influyentes. En uno de los dos casos de que se me acusa —portación ile-gal de armas en prejuicio de la seguridad interna del Estado de Honduras—, la Procuraduría y el Ministerio Público me han planteado una audiencia conciliatoria. Primero me propusieron terminar la persecución en mi contra a cambio de que indemnizara al Estado y le pidiera perdón, asumien-do que el arma era de mi propiedad, cosa que por supuesto no voy a hacer; no cometí ningún delito y no tengo porqué conciliar a estas cosas. Luego, por la presión de la defensa, de los movimientos sociales, de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, de Amnistía Internacional y de las de miles de expre-siones de solidaridad que han denunciado esta injus-ticia en todo el mundo, me

propusieron pagar al Estado todo lo que había gastado en este proceso, siendo éste victima mía. También rechacé esto. En este mo-mento lo más probable es que en la próxima audien-cia el juicio siga sin con-sideración de conciliación. En el otro caso de que la empresa nos acusa, o sea de daños continuados, coacción y usurpación, en setiembre dictaron prisión preventiva en mi contra, decisión que ha sido revo-cada al principio de enero de 2014. Además, este año aprobaron una reforma que prevé que una persona ben-eficiada por medidas susti-tutivas a la prisión —como ha sido en el primer caso en el que me impusieron la prohibición de salir del país y la obligación de pre-sentarme al juzgado cada 15 días— no puede ser benefi-ciada una segunda vez en otro caso. Cuando me acu-saron de posesión del arma, en mayo del 2013, esta ley no estaba en vigor, pero la hicieron retroactiva y esto es ilegal, no hay ninguna ley retroactiva en Honduras.

Estas acusaciones se dan en el marco de la oposición de COPINH al proyecto hidroeléctrico Agua Zarca en la comuni-

dad de Río Blanco, depar-tamento de Intibucá. ¿Por qué la lucha de esta comu-nidad es tan importante para el Estado hondureño?

Hace años las comuni-dades de COPINH de Río Blanco emprendieron una lucha por la defensa del ter-ritorio y del río Gualcarque, que es un río sagrado para el pueblo lenca. En abril del 2013 logramos sacar a Sino-hydro/Desa, que es la mayor constructora de represas del mundo, lo nuestro es un ejercicio de autonomía y control territorial. La em-presa obtuvo la concesión de manera ilegal en el 2010 y por sus vínculos con el Ejército ha presionado mucho a las comunidades, no sólo hostigando sino también ofreciendo sobor-nos y tratando de manipular a la población. Esto indica que las transnacionales no necesitan de intermediarios políticos, sino van directa-mente a reprimir a las comu-nidades. Donde hay inten-ción de construir proyectos mineros o hidroeléctricos hay planes de militarización. La lucha de Río Blanco es un mal ejemplo para el gran capital, porque ha demostrado que es po-sible echar para atrás un

Spanish singer song-writer Joan Manuel Serrat will give today in Mexico City the last of five con-certs in the Palace of Fine Arts , where the ar t is t will share with the audi-ence new and old songs.

“Fasten up your garter and seat belts because we are going to travel in time and through nostalgia,” the Catalan musician warned during his first presenta-tion, performed on Jan. 27.

On Sunday inhabitants of the capital had the pos-sibility to enjoy Serrat’s last concert, who has been ac-claimed in each of his previ-ous presentations and forced to go back to stage and perform other memorable songs such as Fiesta y Lucia.

Yesterday, the con-cert of one of the most renowned songwriters of Spanish and Catalan mu-sic was broadcasted live on giant screens set in the terrace of the Museum of Fine Arts, and also in Gua-dalajara and Colima cities.

As part of his tour in Mexican territory, Serrat will also perform in 2014 in Veracruz, Tabasco, Yucat-an, Quintana Roo, Oaxaca, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Sinaloa, Baja California,

Sonora, and Chihuahua.

Argentina to have greater representation at Monologue Festival

Argentina will par-t icipate at the Second Latin American Mono-logue Festival that will take place next February 12th to the 15th in Cien-fuegos, Cuba, as the best represented foreign coun-try with six theater troupes, organizers said today.

Playwright Miguel Ca-ñellas, director of the fes-tival’s main venue Tomás Terry Theater, told Prensa Latina the contest coin-cides with the theater’s 124th anniversary, founded on February 12th, 1890.

The Argentinian rep-resentation, integrated by companies like Sin testi-gos, Chakarunas, Tan solo hazlo, Proxemia cero, La Espina and El Rito Prohibi-do-Teatro, is outnumbered only by the Cuban one, this time with seven companies: Teatro de la Luna, Mu-jeres fuentes de creación, Teatro Pálpito, Buendía-Alba, Mejunje, Teatro del Puerto and Teatro Rumbo.

In general, around 26 theater troupes from Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela will also compete.

Cancer prevention - According to a 2004 study published in Biochemical Pharmacology, spirulina contains a protein, C-phyco-cyanin, that can significant-ly reduce the proliferation of cultured leukemia cells by causing the cells to undergo apoptosis (“cell death”). A later 2009 study published in the Cancer Science jour-nal found that mice that were fed a spirulina extract had increased activity of natural killer cells (immune

cells that kill cancer cells) than those fed the placebo. The researchers concluded that “NK activation by spi-rulina has some advantage in combinational use with BCG-cell wall skeleton for developing adjuvant-based antitumor immunotherapy.”

Antiviral properties - A 2005 study published in Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology has shown that spirulina’s “high con-centration of natural nutri-ents” can improve white blood cell activity and stimulate antibodies. These properties make spirulina an excellent guard against many serious viruses. “[Spi-rulina preparations] have been found to be active against several enveloped viruses including herpes virus, cytomegalovirus, influenza virus and HIV,” claim the researchers. “They [...] inhibit carcinogenesis due to anti-oxidant prop-erties that protect tissues and also reduce toxicity of liver, kidney and testes.”

Hague ruling leaves Humala without unity card

On 27 January, the In-ternational Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague issued a ruling largely in favour of Peru in a mari t ime dispute with Chile, filed by Peru in January 2008.

The Lima government led by President Ollanta Humala hailed the ruling, claiming that it awarded “more than 70 percent of Peru’s demands”, giving it “some 50,000km2 of [addi-tional territorial] waters”.

In the run-up to the ICJ decision President Hum-ala had called for unity

among the political es-tablishment and there was widespread public enthu-siasm for the ruling. The political gains for the un-popular president and his administration, however, may turn out to be quite meagre. By Latin News.

Nuestros movimientos van a ser “ajustados” en tiempo real, por cualquier incidente de “aceleración” o por no traer abrochado el cinturón. Va a ser mucho más eficiente que utilizar policías para emitir boletos. Después de todo, ¡muchos peces se escapan! Con un GDR en cada coche, na-die va a escapar. Su prima “ajustada” estará esperán-dolo cuando llegue a casa.

Es un factor tecnológico. Los vehículos actuales de GM equipados con la misma tecnología que ha sido or-denada a todos los vehícu-los pueden deshabilitarse remotamente. Con sólo desactivarse. Todo lo que el operador de encendido tiene que hacer es enviar el comando apropiado al GPS de la computadora de tu coche, que controla el motor. Es una de las car-acterísticas promocionadas por OnStar; por supuesto, una característica “segura”.

En el futuro, será utiliza-da para limitar tu manejo, en aras de la “conservación de la energía” o, quizá, “del medio ambiente”. Será el vehículo perfecto, por tanto, para implementar la Agenda 21 de UN –el plan para arri-arnos a todos, anteriormente ganado de impuestos de cor-ral, en lotes de “pensadores” urbanos. De esta manera, será mucho más fácil con-trolarnos. No más rescatar al país o vivir fuera de la red –tan pronto llegues allí (a tu trabajo) caminando.

O que poseas la ficción le-gal de la propiedad. Tú no controlas “tu” propiedad –por tanto, en realidad es propiedad de otros. A ti sólo se te permite utilizar dicha propiedad –bajo ciertas condiciones, bajo el permiso de los verdaderos propietar-ios: el gobierno y sus secu-aces de la corporocracia.

“The NFL is good at fleecing taxpayers,” ESPN columnist Gregg Easter-

brook and the author of The King of Sports: Foot-ball’s Impact on America told Garcia. “It’s about a billion dollars a year I’ve calculated in public subsidies to NFL owners and this is a group that consists almost entirely of bill ionaires and yet receiving significant pub-lic subsidies every year.”

The organization close-ly resembles the corporate class sucking the life-blood out of America. Like bank-sters and transnational companies, it depends of corporate socialism. It buys politicians who agree to use tax dollars to subsidize op-erations and build lavish stadiums. It is owned by billionaires. (See an inter-active Muckety map here.)

“Judith Grant Long, a Harvard University profes-sor of urban planning, cal-culates that league-wide, 70 percent of the capital cost of NFL stadiums has been provided by taxpayers, not NFL owners. Many cities, counties, and states also pay

the stadiums’ ongoing costs, by providing power, sewer services, other infrastruc-ture, and stadium improve-ments,” Easterbook writes.

The NFL does not pay a dime in taxes. The IRS says it is a 501(c)(6) tax-exempt organization. Like the Rock-efellers and the elite, the NFL exploits the tax code to avoid paying taxes the rest of us pay at gunpoint.

But the NFL is hardly run like a charity on a shoe-string with a volunteer staff.

“Goodell’s taking some $30 million from an enter-prise made more profitable because it hides behind its tax-exempt status does not seem materially differ-ent from, say, the Fannie Mae CEO’s taking a gigan-tic bonus while taxpayers were bailing out his com-pany,” writes Easterbrook.

In September, Okla-homa Republican Senator Tom Coburn introduced legislation to put an end to the NFL’s tax exemption.

Coburn’s bill, how-ever, is not a sure deal.
