The John Curtin Leadership Academy (JCLA) is Curtin University’s prestigious co-curricular leadership program, delivered through the Curtin Leadership Centre. The program is based on the three values exemplified by former Australian Prime Minister, John Curtin: Leadership, Vision and Community Service. Program OutlineJCLA runs over one semester and involves: • Attending a four day leadership camp• Attending six leadership workshops • Completion of a team-based community

project with a not-for-profit organisation• Weekly commitment of approx 5 to 7 hrs • JCLA Graduation Ceremony.

Community ProjectParticipants form small teams and undertake a project for a not-for-profit organisation. The projects have a significant impact in the community and allow students to gain practical experience in: teamwork, project management, problem solving, conflict resolution, effective decision making, public speaking and self-awareness. Participants present their achievements and key learnings to an invited audience of industry leaders at the JCLA Graduation.

Selection CriteriaEntry to JCLA is application based and students must address the following selection criteria:• Leadership experience• Community involvement• Academic achievement• Commitment to success.

ApplicationApplicants are required to complete an online application form accessible via the Curtin website. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed, and a maximum of 30 students offered positions in the program.

Curtin Extra CertificateGain recognition of your participation in JCLA by successfully completing all components of the program.

There is no cost to participate in JCLA.
