Welcome to our learning for the week! English 9 and 9 Honors: Mrs. O’Brien’s classes: Topic of Learning: Short story mini unit
Topic Summary: The students have been reviewing literary elements to work toward
writing their own short story. Last week they brainstormed and this week they will be
creating their stories.
Assignments:
● Assignment 1: Review of project requirements.
● Assignment 2: Select format for their story (comic strip, slideshow, flipgrid, or 400
word story).
● Assignment 3: Story creation.
● Assignment 4: Catalogue where they included the required literary devices (simile,
metaphor, personification, imagery).

Topic Summary: This week we will be focusing on alliteration, personification, and slam
poetry. You will be expected to analyze the impact of these poetic forms and devices and
create your own poems using these techniques.

● Assignment 2: Google Form, One Two Punch #2: Analyze a poetic technique used
in the poems by writing a one two punch.
● Assignment 3: Complete a poem: use the poetic techniques learned thus far to
create your own poem: you may use alliteration, imagery, personification,
metaphor, line breaks, enjambment and/or turn.
● Assignment 4: Submit Google Form- Listen to the slam poetry linked in the slides
on google classroom. Fill out the google form selecting your favorites.
● Assignment 5: Write a paragraph- Choose your winners from the poems for this
week. Defend your pick using one two punch and evidence from your poem.
You will need to attend the google meet or watch the video after class in order to be most
successful this week. Please check google classroom for all assignments and email if you
have any questions.
