Fundamental of Basic Electronics- (TEC-101) Unit-1
1. With the help of Energy band diagram explains semiconductors, conductors and insulators.
2. Explain the intrinsic and extrinsic type semiconductors. Explain P-type and N type semiconductors in detail.
3. Explain graphically, why the energy levels of an atom become energy bands in a solid. Show the variation of energy levels with atomic distance.
4. A specimen of Ge (Germanium) at 300 Kelvin with carrier density 2.5x10 exp(3)/cm cube is doped with impurity such that there is one impurity in 10 exp (6) Ge atoms. All impure atoms are assumed to be ionized. The resistivity of doped material is 0.039 Ohm cm. carrier mobility is 3600 cm2 /Vs. for doped material .find the electron and hole densities.

1. What do you mean by Breakdown in semi-conductors? Differentiate between Avalanche and Zener breakdown mechanism. What is the effect of increasing temperature on the breakdown voltage in each case?
2. Define the a. c. or dynamic forward resistance for a diode. Determine the a.c. resistance for a Si diode having forward bias of 200 mV and reverse saturation current of 1µA at room temperature.
