nology Training!” During this three

day training, teens in grades 9th-

12th will learn how to train, imple-

ment, and create a “Science Behind

Agriculture” program in the Jasper

County community. This is a fun

hands-on way to teach, learn and

get youth engaged in science, agri-

culture, and 4-H!

**NEW** 2015 4-H Foods Exhibit Requirements

The foods project has changed for 2015! If you participate or

are planning on participating in the foods project please read through the following project

requirements carefully. Please make sure you check our county website for the most up to

date foods project rules and requirements.

Exhibit Requirements

(Participants may exhibit one baked item per grade)

Level A, Grade 3 Three snack-sized drop, molded or bar baked cookies. No glaze or frosting. Include

recipe card and display on a dessert size paper or foam plate.

Level A, Grade 4 Three muffins that contain an ingredient that is a source of Vitamin A or Vitamin C (no

muffin liners). Include recipe card.

Level B, Grade 5 A square, oblong or round layer reduced-fat cake without frosting. Reduce the amount

of fat in the recipe by using a fruit puree or baby food fruit product that does not contain yogurt. Include recipe card.

Level B, Grade 6 Three no-yeast, any shape pretzels with a whole grain flour (shaped, stick, or nugget)

OR 3 no-yeast sweet or savory rolled biscuits with a whole grain flour (no drop biscuits.) Include recipe card.

Level C, Grade 7, 8, 9 Exhibitors may choose one baked product from the following list. It is suggested a partici-pant choose a different option each year, but this is not a requirement. Three (3) yeast bread sticks or yeast rolls (any shape, medium size - not a sweet roll),

using a whole grain such as whole wheat, rye, oat bran, etc. Include recipe card. Partici-pants are expected to learn how to knead bread dough by hand and allow it to rise ap-propriately. It is NOT acceptable to use a home bread maker.

One package of a non-perishable, invented healthy snack (such as a granola bar, pop-corn snack, trail mix, etc.). Your snack must include at least 2 food groups from My-Plate. Exhibit must include a separate folder containing a marketing plan with product name, recipe, how it will be packaged, a package design, where it will be sold and sug-gested selling price. Style your snack for a photo shoot and include the picture in your marketing plan. Label should include product name, date, quantity, and serving size.

Level D, Grade 10, 11, 12 Exhibitors may choose one baked product from the following list. It is suggested a participant choose a different option each year, but this is not a requirement. A single or double crust baked fruit pie (no graham cracker crust). Include recipe card. (Note: Custards, cream, cream cheese

frosting and fillings, and raw egg white frosting are not acceptable in an exhibit because they are highly perishable when left at room temperatures.)

A non-perishable baked food product for a catered meal or special event in which organizers have requested low fat and/or re-duced sugar items. With your food product, include a separate page outlining how this product is to be used at the event or a table display for the event. Make sure to note any ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. The display should include a notebook outlining menu, supplies to buy, preparation schedule, equipment, table layout, etc. Display should be no larger than 16" deep x 22" wide x 28" high. Include index card with recipe.

Select a condition in which people have to specifically modify their eating habits (diabetes, heart disease, Celiac disease, food allergies, etc.) Prepare a non-perishable baked food product appropriate for someone with this condition. With your food product, include a notebook summarizing the condition or allergy, nutrition considerations involved with the condition, a description of your baked item, and an explanation of how it fits within the nutrition considerations. Make sure to note any ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Include index card with recipe.

Purdue Collegiate 4-H Club Officer Training If you are a club officer for your local 4-H club this training is for

you! Purdue Collegiate 4-H will be visiting Jasper County to host

a training on the responsibilities of each officer position and your

role in your 4-H club. Below are some more details:

4-H Science Training for our

Volunteers – January 23rd

Are you a 4-H volunteer that would like to be able to include more science/STEM into your 4-H club meetings or program-ming? Indiana 4-H will be offering a 4-H Science Volunteer training that will focus on Animal Science, Natural Resources, Food Science, and Robotics. The training will offer all volun-teers an overview of the Indiana 4-H Youth Development Pro-gram, ages and stages of youth development and experiential learning. Volunteers will then break into specific tracks as identified by their registration. These will be hands-on learning opportunities that volunteers can use to start/continue pro-gramming in these areas in the county.

2015 Livestock Updates

All animals (Beef, Dairy, Sheep Swine , Goats, Horses) MUST be enrolled via

the ONLINE ANIMAL ID by these dates:

April 1 – Market Steers

May 15 – Beef Heifers, Dairy Cattle, Sheep, Swine, Goats & Horses

Animals with County Tagging/Retinal Scanning (Beef, Dairy, Sheep, and

Goats) will be provided a “worksheet” for the 4-H member to record all of the information

that is needed to complete the Online Animal ID. If an animal requires tagging/retinal scanning and is not present

at tagging/scanning day, that animal is no longer eligible to be exhibited, regardless if they have been entered

online.

Lease Agreements are still REQUIRED for Horses and Dairy Heifers. A copy of the completed lease form

MUST be on file at the Jasper County Extension Office NO LATER THAN MAY 15. You will need to keep the origi-

nal and have it in order to check in at the Indiana State Fair in August. A lease form can be obtained on our web-

site – www.extension.purdue.edu/jasper under forms. NOTE: Only heifers under 2 years of age at the time of show

can be leased

Horse Requirements: ALL horses exhibiting at county and state must register through Online Animal ID

and MUST have a color photo showing all four feet and face. Animals being leased MUST have a copy of

Lease Form on file in Extension Office no later than May 15th. Vaccinations are now required and a copy of the

vaccination form must be on file at the Extension Office by May 15th. Also, Horse & Pony members are required to

have an animal location form on file at the Extension Office no later than May 15. All forms can be found on our

website at https://extension.purdue.edu/jasper Once you are on the main page, click on youth at the top of the

page, then 4-H projects—Jasper County, then to Horse & Pony. Below are the vaccinations required:

Horses coming from outside Indiana for exhibition in Indiana must meet the following requirements:

Each horse must test negative for equine infectious anemia (EIA) (a”Coggins test”) within 12 months of

the date of exhibition. Each horse must be accompanied by an official certificate of veterinary inspection

that indicates the results of the EIA test.

A suckling foal accompanying a dam that has tested negative for EIA within 12 months of the exhibition is

exempt from the EIA testing requirement.

Poultry Exhibition Requirements: All poultry presented for exhibition, except waterfowl, must meet ONE of

the following requirements:

Test negative for pullorum-typhoid within 90 days prior to the date of exhibition

Be hatched from eggs originating from certified NPIP pullorum-typhoid clean flocks

Originate from a flock where the entire flock is certified NPIP pullorum-typhoid clean.

State 4-H Poultry Workshop – January 10th

Hey poultry members, this one is for you! There will be a State 4-H Poultry workshop held in Bartholomew County for any and all poul-

try members across the state. The workshop topics include: Raising & Showing Waterfowl, Pigeons and Gamebirds, Biosecurity for

Small Flocks, Show Superintendent Roundtable, and Showmanship Clinic. Below are some more details:
