I would very much like to thank the chaperones, Angela Larson and Chelle Saleme, who participated allowing our 14 young people to share their time and talent with the staff and youth in residence at Harbour House. As always we have a very generous parish, our parishoners donated upwards $1,300 including two refurbished computers which were donated by a member of our confirmation class, William Hymel. The money was used to purchase various board games and video games for the house as well as to give a gift bag including candy and a gift card to each of the residents. We were also able to give some small gifts to the staff members who were there with us. This project allows for our young people to have a unique opportunity to take time out during their holiday season and serve those who are not unlike themselves. Harbour House provides a safe and supportive environment for young people in need of shelter including education and counseling services. Over the past 15 years this ministry has allowed many of our young people the experience of looking beyond their own families and Christmas lists and to give of their most precious resource, their time, in a way that is very unique. I always point out to our youth before we leave that this is a very unique service opportunity, however in a way it should not be because everyone should be making efforts toward service as we prepare for Christ’s birth. I suggest to them that many, many years from now when they have children of their own that they should remember what this feels like, to discover that reaching outside of themselves and their needs and wants can be a powerful thing. I thank you all who participated in this at any level from those who donated money, those who cooked, and those who attended. I wish that there were words to express what it has been my honor to see as our young people overcome their timidity and share their time in a way that allows them to understand that service is not just something that we talk about at church, that it is something that Christians live. Harbour House 2016

Our annual Harbour House service project was a great success. I

would very much like to thank the chaperones, Angela Larson and

Chelle Saleme, who participated allowing our 14 young people to share their time and talent with the staff and youth in residence at

Harbour House. As always we have a very generous parish, our

parishoners donated upwards $1,300 including two refurbished

computers which were donated by a member of our confirmation

class, William Hymel. The money was used to purchase various board

games and video games for the house as well as to give a gift bag

including candy and a gift card to each of the residents. We were also

able to give some small gifts to the staff members who were there

with us. This project allows for our young people to have a unique

opportunity to take time out during their holiday season and serve

those who are not unlike themselves. Harbour House provides a safe

and supportive environment for young people in need of shelter

including education and counseling services. Over the past 15 years

this ministry has allowed many of our young people the experience of

looking beyond their own families and Christmas lists and to give of

their most precious resource, their time, in a way that is very unique.

I always point out to our youth before we leave that this is a very

unique service opportunity, however in a way it should not be

because everyone should be making efforts toward service as we

prepare for Christ’s birth. I suggest to them that many, many years

from now when they have children of their own that they should

my honor to see as our young people overcome their timidity and share their time in a way that allows them to

understand that service is not just something that we talk about at church, that it is something that Christians

God bless you for your generosity to me. Please

know of my love and prayers for you. May God

Fr. B.

This Friday, January 13 two of our parishioners,

Yvonne Adams and Chris Bailey, will receive the

MLK award for service to God and our Church

from Bishop Deshotel at St. John Cathedral in

Lafayette. The Mass at which they will be

honored begins at 7:00PM and is open to the

public. Please come and join us in honoring

these two outstanding volunteers.

Why does the Church require certain elements in

the Mass? Why do we do this—and not that? If

you have questions about Mass— or any liturgy—

join us Monday evenings for our adult discussion

group focusing on the liturgy 6:30PM in the

Parish Hall.
