Knightly Knews

Brother Knights,

A great time was had by all who attended our annual Christmas cel-

ebration this past December 18th, which included nearly 100 Knights

and Ladies. During the event it was my honor to present the Knight

of the Year award to Rob Green. Our council and our Parish are

fortunate to have Rob and his wife Karen serving all of us. From be-

ing our Council Treasurer, directing traffic, preparing food at our

family breakfasts, server recognition, Vincentfest and council din-

ners, no matter what the activity, we see Rob giving of himself for our Parish. Thank you

Rob, and thank you Karen for leading by example and living your Faith in Action!

For the 6th year in row our council again was able

to write a check out for $500 for each one of our

Parish Seminarians. Let us remember to keep them

in our prayers and for more good men to be called

to the vocation of the priesthood.

“God our Father, please send us Holy and Pious

Priests, all in the name of the most sacred and

Eucharistic heart of Jesus, all for the sorrowful

and immaculate heart of Mary, in union with

Saint Joseph. Amen.”

Let us enjoy the life that our Father has given us and be truly thankful for the gift of the

Word in flesh, Jesus Christ. May the New Year bring us many more opportunities to serve

Jesus and one another, as Catholic men and woman. Let us celebrate Christmas every day

of the year!

4th Degree Report.... Many thanks for all those who attended the Christmas Party at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on December 10th. The Assembly furnished ham and chicken this year and everybody brought a dish. The gift exchange was a lot of fun and we ended with Christ-mas songs. God Bless everyone! This past year the K of C has witnessed many changes. After 79 years the traditional Color Guard Regalia was retired and re-placed with an international uniform. The 4th degree exemplification was reduced from a three-day celebration to one. There are rumors of many more changes to come in 2020. Thanks for the support and memories in 2019. Sir Knights we are starting a new year with a clean sheet. 4th Degree Meeting on January 14th, Rite to Life March will be on January 25th. Praying with Father Solanus Memorial Mass for the deceased K of C members and Veterans TBD. Committee to be established for Memorial Day Parade & Veteran’s Day Parade Continuation. Committee to be established for Color Guard recruiting and new uniform reimbursement plus Collecting

traditional regalia capes, swords & chapeaus. Committee to be established for Faith in Action for the 4th Degree Anthony Wayne Assembly. Committee to be established for the Religious Appreciation Dinner. As Sir Knights we will always be loyal to our Country and bravely do our part for God, Country and Family.

Thanks and God Bless. Richard Burton, Faithful Navigator Assembly 239. ===============================================================================================================

GOSNELL Movie Presentation - A Must See ! St. Vincent Respect Life Committee and the St. Vincent Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the presentation of the movie “GOSNELL” on Tuesday evening January 28th at 7pm in the Kuzmich Life Center. This is open to all parish-ioners and guests at no charge. This movie is rated PG-13 so is not suitable for younger children.

The film is the shocking true story of the investigation and trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell - his 30 year killing spree

and the political and media establishment that tried to cover it up. Originally investigated for illegal prescription

drug sales, a raid by DEA, FBI & local law enforcement revealed crimes they could not have expected within the

clinic. Based on the NY Times Bestseller — Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer.

Knights of Columbus Jeffery Goralczyk, FICF Member MDRT - Field Agent 4526 E Fox Run Dr. Syracuse, IN 46567 Insurance for Brother Knights, by Brother Knights

Field Agent Report…

It‘s easy to say, family and friends, those are blessings; and we sometimes take them for granted…but how about the little things in life. It might be that smile you get from person who hands you your cup of coffee in the morning; it may be relishing the crisp air on an autumn day. It may be a simple stroll in the park marveling at God’s nature abounding. Maybe the joy of helping an older neighbor with a chore. All little things to be thankful for. When I think about helping older neighbors, I often wonder just how many members have taken advantage of help that they might need as they age. Some won’t be able to do the simple activities of daily living. They’ll need assistance, and our mobile society may not have a relative nearby to help. That’s where our Knights of Columbus Long Term Care Insurance plan might help. Many people don’t know how a long-term care insurance policy helps cover the costs of care when the policyholder has a chronic medical condition, a disability or a disorder such as Alzhei-mer’s disease. You can receive care in your home, a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or an adult daycare center. LTC insurance helps protect all those assets you’ve worked so hard for over the years: your house, IRAs, savings, investments. They could all be wiped out with even a short stay in a nursing home. The website: https://longtermcare.acl.gov/costs-how-to-pay/costs-ofcare.html says that Home Health Care costs about $22/hour, Assisted Living Facilities about $4,245 per month and Nursing Home $85,000 per year. More expensive areas of the country are more than that. Without LTC insurance, many families would face a serious financial crisis. Most people aren’t eager to talk about long term care, but it’s important to have a plan. Many people want to wait until they are in their 60s or 70s before they start to consider long term care. But at younger ages it’s more likely you can qualify…and the price is less high when you’re younger. I can help design a plan to fit your needs…and your budget. With that, you can have peace of mind that you will get the care you need, when you need and where you want it.

Culture of Life....

— 47th March for Life - Friday, January 24, 2020 (Washington,D.C.) — The March for life in Washington DC in January is fast approaching. The State Council again is asking for all of the Council’s cooperation in sponsoring one of your members to attend the March with the Indiana Knights of Columbus. If every Council sent one Knight each, there would be over 170 members attending. Couple that with those other Knights that will be going and the wives, offspring, and other in-terested individuals, we could easily send 10 buses to this all-important event. The threat to our Catholic Faith by the legalization of abortion is grave indeed and Catholics, Knights in particu-lar, need to stand-up for their Church. The Culture of Life committee asks that you participate in recruiting Council members, family members, Parishioners, and neighbors so that Indiana can indeed live-up to the reputation that we have as being a Pro Life state.

=============================================================================================================== Northeast Indiana March for Life 2020....

This year's March will occur on Saturday, January 18th, 2020. Join thousands of pro-life advocates from our region as we march through downtown Fort Wayne to show that you support life from conception to natural death. The March for Life is an annual pro-life rally held near the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court deci-sion legalizing abortion in Roe v. Wade. This year's keynote speaker is Congressman Phil Roe, TN Dist 1, retired OB GYN and advocate for life. The Rally will begin at 12 pm at the University of St. Francis Performing Arts Center, 431 W Berry St, followed by the March at 1 pm. Doors open at 11:30 am with informational tables on the lobby. ===============================================================================================================

New Year's Resolutions.... by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson "I never make New Year's Resolutions, anymore," the man told me, "I never keep them, anyway." I can remember all too many resolutions I've made and let slip away, too. But I believe New Year's resolutions are worth making. Let me tell you why.

First, we all need changes. Something we find very hard to admit to ourselves. I've heard people who say, "I have no regrets about my life. If I had it to do over, I'd do it the same way again." But that attitude is way too blind and self-serving so far as I'm concerned. There is great power in confession--to ourselves, to God, to others. Owning up to our failures is the first, painful step on the road to something better.

Second, when we change calendars is a good time for reassessment. How did last year go? What do I want to do differently this year? This time of year always reminds me of a passage of scripture, better understood by farmers than suburbanites: "Break up your unplowed ground, and do not sow among thorns" (Jer 4:3). It makes sense. The more land you put into production, the more prosperous you'll be. But some of us are stupid enough to try to sow seeds in land overrun by star thistle without breaking up the soil and taking care to root out the thorns as they come up. Call it laziness. Call it stupidity. Let me ask you a serious question. What percentage of your life is producing something of value to God? How much "unplowed ground" do you have that ought to be broken up in this coming year and made useful? Reassessment. The brink of a new year is a good time for reassessment.

Third, New Year's is an excellent time for mid-course corrections. Sure, we might fail in what we set out to do, but if we fail to plan, the old saw goes, then we plan to fail. If you're so fearful of failure that you never set up your row of tin cans to shoot at, you're not very likely to hit any at all. Failure is not the end. For the person who determines to learn from it, failure is a friend. One of my heroes in the Bible is the Apostle Paul. Talk about failure! Throughout his life he was opposed, persecuted, ship-wrecked, stoned and left for dead, deserted by trusted co-workers, slandered, and scorned. Sometimes it seemed that projects to which he had devoted years were turning to dust before his eyes. But during from one of his stints in prison, we can see from one of his letters an unwillingness to quit. "Forgetting what is behind," he wrote, "and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:13-14, NIV) No wonder he made a mark on his world. He stopped looking back, and looked forward instead. He didn't let the fear of failure keep him from trying again.

Fourth, New Year's is a time to learn to rely more heavily on the grace of God. Now I've met a few self-made men and women and so have you, but so often these people seem proud and driven. There is another way: beginning to trust in God's help. One more secret from the Apostle Paul: "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength," he said (Phil 4:13, NIV). And God's strength saw him through a lot--through pain, through joy, and through accomplishment.

If this last year, you didn't practice relying on the Lord as much as you should have, there is no time like the present to make a New Year's resolution. In fact, why don't you say a short prayer right now--use these words if you like: "Dear God, I want the new year to be different for me." Now spell out in prayer some of the changes you'd like to see. And close this way: "Lord Jesus, I know that I'm going to need a lot of help for this. So right now I place myself in your hands. Help me to receive Your strength.

Amen." Good. Now you've got a much better chance of a Happy New Year.
