The Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to bring Community Leadership Insti-

tute to the Dickinson Area! This leadership program is geared to identify those that would like to define their leadership skills, find volunteer opportunities, and develop community aware-ness.

Community Leadership Institute is a great tool for the commu-nity to assist in finding more candidates to assume leadership positions. This program will offer ways for individuals to gain experience, knowledge, or the right connections to pursue leadership roles in a community.

Businesses are encouraged to sponsor an employee that would benefit from this program. The fee of $250 and a com-pleted enrollment form are due to the Chamber office prior to February 15th, 2012. The class size is limited to ten.

Topics to Include: Volunteering, Media, Transportation, Eco-nomic Development/Ag, Legislative/Government, Energy Services, Healthcare, Education

Sessions will begin: March 6th, 2012 through April 24th, 2012.

All Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 8am to 11:45a.m.

Leadership Dickinson held their City Government Day on December 14, 2011 at Dickinson City Hall.

The morning consisted of a full tour of City Hall, an overview of the city and growth, tours of our city baler building, police station, public transit and fire station. Over the lunch hour we had a the Dickinson City Commissioners join us and listen to the SPOT Analysis presentation on Dickinson. The afternoon we had a mock city commission meeting discussing the issue of crew camps. The day wrapped up with a presentation from the West River Community Center.

In the past several months, Gate City Bank has donated $218,500 to area organizations as part of its commitment to support commu-nities and causes. Local donations included contri-butions to the Dickinson Area Concert Association, Sacred Heart Benedictine Foundation, Western Horizons Care Center and the Best Friends Mentoring Program. Additional donations were made to regional organizations includ-ing Special Olympics of North Dakota, Arthritis Foundation, Alz-heimer’s Association, Hunting-ton’s Disease Society of America, March of Dimes North Dakota Chapter, North Dakota High School Rodeo Association, North Dakota Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America Northern Lights Council, Pheasants For-ever, The Outdoor Adventure Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Children’s Miracle Network and Make a Wish Foundation of North Dakota. A $1.3 billion mutual community bank, Gate City Bank has been providing complete banking ser-vices to its customers since 1923. Gate City Bank has 32 convenient banking offices across North Da-kota and Minnesota, and employs more than 400 people.

Lonnie Berg has earned November’s Digital Solutions Specialist of the month. Lonnie manages the Minot branch of Midwest Busi-ness Systems.

Kelly Prendiville was voted on by his peers as November’s Em-ployee of the month. Kelly is a Digital Support Specialist working out of the Dickin-

son branch of Midwest Business Systems.

Paul Heer has earned No-vember’s Digital Support Specialist of the month. Paul works out of the Jamestown branch of Mid-west Business Systems.

American Trust Center is pleased to announce Gerald Galloway as President. Jerry joined American in 1999, serv-ing as a Trust Officer and later as Senior Vice President of Administra-tion with American Bancor, Ltd. He is cur-rently semi-retired and serves as a member of the Trust Committee and Board of Directors. Prior to American, Jerry was in the general practice of law in Dickinson for 33 years.

Kathy Torske has been named as Chief Execu-tive Officer. Kathy joined American Trust Center in May of 2005 as an Administrative Offi-cer and was later pro-moted to Assistant Vice

President of Safety and Soundness. In addition, she was designated as the Human

Resources Officer and oversaw the Corporate Accounting functions. The past several months Kathy has been serving as interim President/ CEO of American Trust Center.

Kathy holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Ac-counting and Business Administration from Dickinson State Univer-sity. She received her designation of Certified Public Accountant in 2001 and certification as a Fiduciary & Invest-ment Risk Specialist in 2009. Kathy also has several years of Auditor experience prior to joining American.

Kathy accepted the po-sition of Chief Execu-tive Officer November 1, 2011.

American Bank Center is pleased to announce Sherry Maus as a Teller at the downtown Dick-inson location. Sherry is returning to Ameri-can and previously worked as a Financial Service Representative at the north location and as a Loan Assistant at the downtown loca-tion in 2010.

Wells Fargo names Hande market president

Sacajawea Substance Abuse Counseling and Drug Test-ing Center recently added two employees. Becca Evans is now office manager. Becca recently relo-cated from Missoula, MT. Brady Pelton is a certified seminar instructor as well as a

drug and alcohol tester. Brady has a degree in business

management.

Wells Fargo recently announced that Travis Hande, sen-ior business banking relationship manager, was named market president for Dickinson. “During his career at Wells Fargo, Travis has built a strong track record for leading our ag banking business and helping our customers succeed financially,” Brad Pauly, business banking manager for rural markets in ND stated in a press release. Hande joined Wells Fargo as an ag banker in 2003. A native of Amidon, he earned a bachelor’s degree in agri-cultural business from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He serves on the Dickinson Chamber of Commerce Ag

committee and is an adjunct teacher at Dickinson State

University.

Dr. Audrey McMacken, obstetrician/gynecologist at Medcenter One Dickinson Clinic, recently passed her board exam and is now board certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. To become board certified, Dr. McMacken passed written and oral examinations that tested her skills, knowledge and ability required for medical and surgical care of women. Dr. McMacken has been with Medcenter One Dickinson Clinic, 938 2nd Ave. W., since 2008. She is a native of Taylor and is the only full-time board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist in Dickinson. Ballot Measures to be Considered

Measure #1 Appointment of legislator to a full-time appointive state office

Petition Title A concurrent resolution to amend and reenact section 6 of article IV of the Constitution of North Dakota relating to the appoint-

ment of a member of the legislative assembly to a full-time appointive state office.

Measure #2 Elimination of property taxes and replacement of lost revenue

Petition Title This initiated measure would amend sections 1,4,14,15, and 16 of article X of the North Dakota Constitution and repeal sections

5,6,7,9, and 10 of that same article, eliminating property taxes, poll taxes and acreage taxes, effective January 1, 2012. Te measure would replace the lost revenues with allocations of various state-level taxes and other revenues, without restrictions on how these

revenues may be spent.

Measure #3 Government prohibited from burdening the exercise of religious liberty

Petition Title This initiated measure would add a new section to article I of the North Dakota Constitution preventing

the government from burdening the sincere exercise of religious liberty by a person or religious organization, absent proof of a compelling governmental interest, and then only by use of the least

restrictive means.

2004. Christian is the Past Exalted Ruler of Dickinson Elks Lodge 1137, a past member of Opti-mist International, and a cur-rent board member of the Dickinson Chamber of Com-merce, and the Dickinson State University Foundation. Christian resides in Dickinson with his wife Lisa and sons Tony, 14, and Tyler, 13. The Automobile Dealers Asso-ciation of North Dakota is the trade association for the state’s 89 new-car franchised automobile dealers, with headquarters in Fargo, ND.

Christian Kostelecky, Dickin-son, ND, has been elected to serve on the Board of Direc-tors of the Automobile Deal-ers Association of North Da-kota. He is General Manager of Sax Motor Co., a Chevro-let, Cadillac, Buick dealer with locations in Dickinson, Bowman, and Killdeer.

Christian graduated from Dickinson High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Min-nesota State University Moorhead, and a Master’s degree in Fi-nance from the Univer-sity of Den-ver. He is also a gradu-ate of the General Mo-tors Institute of Automotive Management in Flint, Michigan.

Christian worked at the fam-ily dealership during high school and college in the de-tail and service departments. Upon graduation from col-lege, he worked as a bank examiner for the FDIC for two years before returning to graduate school. Christian then worked ten years as a financial analyst and an in-vestment manager with As-set Management Group in Englewood, CO. Christian and his family moved back to Dickinson in 2001 to re-join the dealership, and became the General Manager in

the evening meal. This educational showcase would allow people to learn about cuts of meat and how to prepare meat and at the end of the presenta-tions food was available. Another idea would be to have Ag related business have an information booth with grills set up. People could have food samples while they view the booths. A garden-ing demonstration may also be a possi-bility. Bull Days – This year’s Showcase will be January 21st at Stockmen’s Livestock East. They sent a bid out to caterers for chili for 400 people. The committee is working on getting sponsors. If there is bad weather and more than 5 pens that do not show they will be an-nounced at the end of the showcase. February 7th ―Best of the Best in Wheat and Barley‖ will be at the Ramada, Grand Dakota Lodge. Registration will start at 8:30am and the program will start at 9am. Chamber Committees Ambassadors /Membership Committee Sampling of Sicily-January 16, 2011-This year there will be a chance to win a prize with the purchase of a bottle of wine at the door. This year we will have Julie Opdahl play-ing live music for our guests that evening. The Sampling of Sicily will be advertised on the Dakota Community Bank, CVB, Chamber and Consolidated electronic signs. The Dickinson Press will be running some ads as well. Lexi will talk about it on her radio spot. Hometown Pride and Ribbon Cuttings-There will be a ribbon cuttings on December 28th, 2011. The commit-tee added Lufkin Industries to the ribbon cutting list. Election of Vice Chair-Tasha will take over in February. The list of commit-tee members will be emailed for a nomination of a vice chair.

Education Committee No meeting held.

Promotions Committee Season of Lights Wrap Up- Display of Lights- Inside the mall there were over 150 votes placed in our registra-tion boxes. This is up over quadruple from the year prior. Outside there were 9 floats decorated. That is up 4 floats from last year. There was a line of traffic from Dairy Queen all the way to Great Plains National Bank over the whole 2 hours that we were displayed in the parking lot. The Dickinson Press had over 400 cups of hot chocolate given out. They could have given more out but they ran out. The Float winner was The Dickinson Press and the People’s Choice was Coke. Craft Show- This year’s show had a good turnout. All vendors showed up and participated.

Agriculture Committee West River Livestock Show –This year’s show had quality of cattle was great. There was good feedback from the ex-hibitors. We do compete with the Nile in Billings, MT and the national FFA Convention being around the same time. A different weekend would compete with high school sporting events. The clean up went well. The date will be reserved with DSU for next year. Calendar - A sample of the 2012 calendar was passed around for review. We will have 2000 printed at Quality Quick Print. Ag BBQ – 2012’s Ag BBQ will have a different format. They would like to get more family and youth involved and have an educational element. They discussed moving to the Wednesday before school starts next fall. Maybe a home and garden show ending with an ice cream social. They are also consider-ing sponsoring the noon lunch instead of
