Pete Weber tied Earl Anthony’s all-time Denny’s PBA Tour record of eight Major titles Sunday. Like Father, Like Son NORTH BRUNSWICK— There are few things Pete Weber has yet to accomplish in his PBA Hall of Fame career, but surpris- ingly he has never been named PBA Player of the Year. With a win in the most gruel- ing tournament of the season Sunday, he’s one step closer to that elusive award. Weber defeated Wes Malott, 210-204, Sunday to win the 64th U.S. Open at Brunswick Zone Carolier, his fourth career U.S. Open crown and record-tying eighth career Major title. The win also put Weber, who has two titles this season, in a tie with Mark Roth for third on the all- time titles list with his 34th ca- reer Denny’s PBA Tour title. Brunswick Zone Carolier was where Weber found out two years ago that his legendary fa- ther, Dick, passed away on Feb- ruary 14, 2005. With his win Sunday, Pete joined his father and Don Carter as the only bowlers to win the U.S. Open or BPAA All-Star – the U.S. Open’s predecessor – four times. “This was one of my dreams, to be one of the guys to win four U.S. Opens. I might not be done, I might have six or seven before my career is over,” We- ber said. “My dad and Don Carter are the only two to win this event four times so I am join- ing an elite group. Even though the All-Star was not an official title, to me it is, and it is in dad’s book and Don’s book. So to me, we have 12 U.S. Open titles among us.” Weber struck in his first five frames in the title match after starting with the first eight in his semifinal win, leaving the 10-pin both times. Malott had a couple chances to get back in the match, particularly after Weber opened in the 8th, but Malott struck and spared in the 10th meaning We- ber only needed six pins in the 10th frame for the win. In the semifinal, Weber came close to the first televised 300 game of his career, with eight straight strikes until leaving the 10-pin. The match was decided early on as Jeff Carter, making his first career TV appearance, struck just once in frames 3-7 as Weber went on to the 267-192 win. In the first match Carter de- feated Dave D’Entremont, 185- 183. Weber (St. Ann, Mo.) took home $100,000 and a three-sea- son Denny’s PBA Tour exemp- tion for the win. Malott (Argyle, Texas) earned $50,000 for sec- ond, Carter (Springfield, Ill.) took home $25,000 for third while D’Entremont (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) earned $15,000 for fourth. The Denny’s PBA Tour takes a one-week break before the final three events of the sea- son, starting with the 2007 Pepsi Championship March 14-18 at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. The live ESPN televised fi- nals take place Sunday, March 18, at 12:30 p.m. EST. CAMARILLO—Last week at the WWPB Camarillo Open, the WWPB decided on numer- ous changes for the organization. The WWPB will be known as The Western Women Premier Bowlers for the 2007 season on beyond! Dave Wodka of Ebonite, In- ternational announced that Ebo- nite would provide a new Ebon- ite ball of choice to all new mem- bers of the WWPB! (For de- tails, please contact Lori Yamasaki). Ebonite is commit- ted to women’s bowling and fur- thering the sport with the pro- moting of our new member drive! Kudos to Dave and Ebonite as true supporters. Their generos- ity shines with the WWPB as they sponsor our two mixed doubles events throughout the year - our upcoming Jim Lee Memorial Mixed Doubles Championship, March 31 - April 1 at Yorba Linda Bowl and our Mission Hills Mixed Doubles tournament held every Novem- ber. Our sincerest thanks to Dave Wodka and Ebonite, Internaitonal! With their continued sup- port, the WWPB looks to strive for many years to come! Following our open meeting, we presented our 2006 honors. The WWPB congratulates Rookie of the Year and Co- Bowler of the Year, Missy Bellinder. The 2006 rookie of the year is no stranger to bowling, or the WWPB. Over the last few years, she bowled in many of our events, and she finally decided to join our organization in 2006. She entered 6 of our 7 events last year, and made the finals in 5 of those tournaments. She fin- ished 4th twice, 2nd once, and found herself in the winner’s circle at our Palos Verdes 2-day event. She finished 2nd in the average race, and led the earn- ings category. The WWPB also congratu- lates Co-Bowler of the Year, Pam Pancoast. Pam bowled in 5 of 7 events, making finals in 4 of them. She finished 3rd twice, and won our back-to-back 1-day events at Keystone and Del Rio. She finished 3rd on our earnings leaders list, and was the average leader for 2006, averaging almost 227 for the year. As mentioned, our next event will be the Jim Lee Memorial Mixed Doubles Championship at Yorba Linda Bowl March 31st - April 1st. For details and en- try information, visit our website at www.wwpb.com or contact Laurie Soto at (661) 713- 4945. SPRING FORWARD Bob A Base Success! SAN DIEGO—Admiral Robinson Center on the 32 ND St. Naval Base was the site of the NABI tournament last weekend, & Bob Selner collected another title. Bob has been up & down in his conversion to being an “off hand” bowler, but this was his time to shine, as he bowled ex- ceptionally well all afternoon. He tied for second seed with another “off hand” bowler, Jim Hall, & lost the tie breaking match, so was positioned #3 in the stepladder as the finals be- gan. After winning his first match, Bob had to bowl Jim a second time. This time he was the winner, & went on to face the top seed, Ed Lomibao. Both men bowled well over their av- erages, but Bob took advantage of more opportunities that came his way & was the eventual vic- tor. Rounding out the steplad- der finals were Linda Vance & Paul Willey, Jr. Sharing $200 for rolling strikes in the 3 rd , 6 th & 9 th frames of game #2 were Sixto Santos, Tom Brophy, Jeff Greer, Curtis Johnson, Phil Diaz, Guy Clear, Willey & Hall, while Ron Chase & Mike Lopez split the $100 9 in a row. Guaranteed $50 sidepots went to Nick Inganna, Mike Castleton, Dan Stauf, Paul Phounsavath, Herb Stansberry, Chase, Hall, & Lomibao (2). At thatBurbank center he had a 131 game but recovered to find his line tofinish with a 268. In the recent one he started with two over 260.

But Hansen winswith 69 handicap for 273 whileFisser had 8 for 230.
