Dear Our Lady Queen of Peace Brothers and Sisters, “What are you looking for?” This is the question that Our Lord Jesus asked his would-be disciples in our Gospel this Sunday (John 1:35-42). How would you answer such a question? If each one of us were to be asked the same by the Lord, I would be so much interested to hear the answers we would give him. Whether we are aware of it or not, or whatever way we may articulate it, all of us are “searchers” or “seekers”. At our core, we all look for a meaning in life – and with that, we strive to find what can give us joy, peace, security, fulfillment, etc. And the deeper we dig into our search, the more we realize that our pursuit is for something lasting not temporal, something that would remain no matter what conditions life may bring us. I find it striking and interesting, to say the least, what the response of the would-be disciples to the question of Jesus. They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “where are you staying?” They must have discerned that what they are really searching for is not “something” but rather “someone” and that SOMEONE is right there in front of them and they need to get to know him, to be connected with him, to encounter him more deeply. As the Gospel narrates, Jesus said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. This is precisely what God offers us when we come to realize that our true deeper search is not of something but that of SOMEONE – He is more than ready to invite us “Come and See!” He is not a God who hides Himself from us; but rather out of His immense love, He offers us 100 percent what our heart is truly searching. Perhaps, in the end, the real question we have to ask ourselves is: “How much am I willing to stay and remain with Him to find what I am searching for?” Sincerely in the Lord, Father Tony

Happy New Year? Use it all wisely (Continued from last
week): With God, there is no time. God is eternal, with‐
out beginning and without ending. A thousand years in
God’s sight is but a moment past. We, however, live in
time, the time given to us by God, the creator of TIME.
Time is given to us to live in, for and through God. Time
is made holy (or unoly) by how we use it, either to the
glory of God, or to the Glory of ourselves, as we are
known to God.

FEAST OF FAITH
The Greeting
At several points during the liturgy, the presider
greets us with the words, “The Lord be with you.” These
simple words are not like the greetings that we exchange
all day long—our “good mornings,” our “hellos” and
“how are yous.” This liturgical greeting has roots deep in
the Old Testament. In the book of Ruth, the words “the
Lord be with you” are spoken by Boaz to the harvesters
who are laboring in his fields (2:4); in the book of Judges,
an angel speaks similar words to Gideon (6:12), where
they are words of promise: for soon Gideon will lead his
oppressed people to victory and freedom. For us, the
words become a greeting of peace, a prayer that the Lord
will indeed be with us, and a reminder of his promise to
be with us always, to the end of the world (Matthew
28:20). Our response returns to the presider this prayer
for the Lord’s presence. As we know from the scriptures,
a prayer for the Lord’s presence is no small thing, for
when God comes in our midst, God brings healing, grace,
and challenge. God’s presence transforms us. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

debts. —Anonymous
Treasures From Our Tradition
Every year, close to the feast of the Conversion of St.
Paul on January 25, and before the feast of the Chair of St.
Peter on February 22, the cause of Church unity is com‐
mended to Christians everywhere. Sadly, Protestants,
Orthodox, and Catholics have settled to a status quo of
separation. When baptized people become Catholic, we
speak of them as being received into “full communion.”
That means we already share a communion in faith in
many ways, including the Word of God. Many Protestant
denominations have received and revised the three‐year
cycle of readings first arranged by Catholics in the early
1970s. Therefore, many of your neighbors who are not
Catholic are celebrating and reflecting on the same read‐
ings we are savoring on most Sundays of the year. This
makes for a new spirit of cooperation among preachers of
the gospel, and gives hope that the cause of reunion, de‐
sired by Christ, has great vitality at the table of God’s
Word, and will one day lead to unity at the table of the
Lord’s Body and Blood. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin
Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thine
intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly
unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my
mother; to thee do I come, before
thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my peti‐
tions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
