The Saver Plan their financial affairs.

Little interest in “keeping up with the Joneses”.

Always on the look-out for sales.

Shadow side: they delay gratification– classic Ebenezer Scrooge. They fear the future

The Evolving Saver: Learns how to plan joyfully, lives within their means. They may still have a concern for the future.

The Evolved Saver: Their lives are graced by prudence, thoughtfulness, and the responsible wisdom of self-sufficiency. They devote themselves to planning and building the future they desire.

The Innocent Little desire to become acquainted with money. Very rich imaginations and vivid, powerful dreams. They have a hard time paying their bills on time which often result in

bank charges and overdraft fees. They believe only good luck or grace can rescue them. The Shadow Side: see themselves as victims and blame their financial

woes on others, in its most toxic form, this archetype is self-pity and entitlement.

The Evolving Innocent: muddle along, hoping things get better but not believing they can initiate or sustain a good relationship with money but as they gain confidence they come to realize that money can be supportive of their interests, a source of sustenance for the many other things they love to do.

The Evolved Innocent: understand the difference between pity and compassion. Come to believe in their own resilience. Albert Einstein was an Evolved Innocent – although he struggled at an early age, he eventually learned to focus his remarkable brilliance without losing his sense of wonder

The Performer More aware than other archetypes of the significance and power of

gaining the attention of others. Marilyn Monroe, “I don’t want to make money, I just want to be

wonderful” Higher than average % of their $ goes toward clothes, hair care,

jewelry, cosmetics, latest gadgets, etc. The Shadow Side: can get so caught up in appearances that they

neglect their feelings and relationships, buy things they can’t afford. The Evolving Performer: use their abilities to attract the attention of

others to fulfill higher purposes, help others who may feel invisible learn to express themselves so their gifts will be recognized. Their craving to be seen gives way to more contentment and self-acceptance. They use their charisma to uplift and motivate, creating an atmosphere of hope and goodwill.

The Evolved Performer: Elevate themselves in the attention that they relish in order to serve the highest aspirations of humanity.

The Sensualist

Pleasure and instant gratification is felt keenly. They know how to enjoy life.

They spend lavishly on presents for themselves and others. Drawn to deals that promise “no money down” or “buy now, pay later.”

Heightened susceptibility to commercialism – for the last half century, much of our economy has been based on getting people to spend money as if there was no tomorrow.

The Shadow Side: a harder time than others tightening their belts when money gets tight. Their spending may become compulsive.

The Evolving Sensualist: learns to enjoy the things they buy, makes at least their minimum credit card payment every month but often still feels stuck on the financial treadmill. They begin to find more healthy pleasures for themselves and others.

The Evolved Sensualist: appreciates high-quality items but doesn’t lose their sensitivity to the costs and consequences of these items. May love great coffee but cares about whether or not it is a product of fair trade, appreciates fine jewelry but detests the horrors of conflict diamonds. They relish how much pleasure they find in nonmaterial things and relationships. They teach others to find pleasure in the right things. They learn to live elegantly with less.

The Vigilant The most resolute about their finances, practical, down-to-earth, dependable, hardworking,

keep meticulous financial records and always file their tax return on time.

Enjoy spending money for things that bring them pleasure but rarely go overboard, don’t mind spending more for something that will last.

They like old things and may collect antiques, prefer classic clothes that will remain stylish through the years, they tend to be loyal customers.

The Shadow Side: may spend an excessive amount of time analyzing financial data, can be hypercritical of the spending habits of others, may stew over poor financial decisions they made in the past, can become preoccupied with their fears of loss.

The Evolving Vigilant: they are constant and conscientious and provide many kinds of tireless service to others. They make wonderful friends. They believe that every problem has a solution if you give it the time and attention it needs. They are a moral compass for our culture. They teach children to have confidence and a sense of fair play.

The Evolved Vigilant: A deep sense of morality, a respect for the power of our economic institutions and a very real concern that money and the power it brings not become overly concentrated in the hands of the few. “It is neither wealth nor splendor, but tranquility and occupation which give happiness.” Use the wisdom of the ages to better understand ourselves and our times.

The Giver The purpose of money is to help others, to make a difference. They are providers,

nurturers, and caretakers.

May loan money to friends or family members in need. May dream of winning the lottery so they could help even more.

Tend to drive a cheaper car and life a simpler lifestyle. Often the financial caretakers for their families – immediate and extended.

The Shadow Side: most likely to sacrifice their dreams for others, may believe that they won’t be loved/accepted unless they give to others, may go into debt to do so, in the Twelve Step world they are the enablers.

The Evolving Giver: understands unconditional love but also recognizes that setting limits is part of that love. They say “No” when appropriate. Realizes that giving should never foster dependency. They help others become self-sufficient.

The Evolved Giver: Jonas Salk - The polio vaccine and first recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for Distinguished Civilian Service. Impossible to exaggerate the financial fortune that could have come to Salk if he sought to capitalize on it. When asked who owns the patent, Salk replied “the people, I would say. There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?”

Defining Your Personal Values

What is really important to you? Remember, we are trying to identify values, not things. If “things” come to mind when you ask yourself this question, try to think about what value that thing represents. Values are about being, they define your way of life. Goals are generally more focused on doing and having.

Why Women Need to Become

Financially Empowered

Women tend to live longer.

A Great Untruth: in order to be rich, you need to make more money – it’s not what you make, it’s what you keep.

It is true that you can’t count on someone else to take care of you – partner, inheritance, government, etc.

Although not our most challenging issue of late, inflation is still a major concern.
