No School on Friday—Dress Down Day on Thursday This is a reminder that GHLS does not have classes this Friday, January 28. All of our staff members will be participating in a special “Urban Ministry Retreat.” This two day retreat has been going on for over 25 years and brings together Milwaukee area urban schools’ staffs for professional growth, spiritual encouragement, and fellowship. GHLS classes resume on Monday, January 31 st. This also means that Thursday, January 27th is the next Dress Down Day (DDD). All students need to follow the DDD rules or they will be removed from classes until the proper clothing is brought to them.

Order your GHLS Yearbooks and School Logo Apparel Pick up order forms at the school office or from your child’s teacher for the GHLS Yearbook ($12.50 and due Feb. 1) and for school logo clothing (various prices and due Feb 4).

Above: K5 students enjoy some winter fun in a special sledding field trip to Pastor Mattek’s home and hill.

The War Is On After two weeks, the G-House of Representatives sponsored “Penny War” to raise funds for the school playground, has raised $289.00. The boys are currently in the lead by 829 points. The war goes until May 6 with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans hopefully matching the funds raised. Come on ladies, take back the lead!

What Makes Teens Tick? Do you currently have a teenager? Will you have a teenager in a few years? Do you wonder what happened to that sweet, cooperative, little angel you used to have? Do you worry that you won’t have the patience and stamina to coexist with the “know-it-all-emotional-roller-coaster-young-adult” your child is turning into? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you will not want to miss the next GHLS Parent Enrichment Night on Wednesday, February 16, 6:00 p.m. in the school Music Room. Dr. Nelson, who has spent 33 years teaching and counseling children, teens, and parents, will discuss the physiological, psychological, and spiritual changes going on as children reach adolescence. He will give you some practical advice and encouragement for how to make the teen years your child’s and your very best.

We Need the Pictures For this year’s graduation festivities in May, Dr. Nelson needs class pictures for the class of 2011, from K3 through grade 8. If you would have a class picture for any of these years, and would be willing to allow Dr. Nelson to borrow it for scanning purposes, please drop the picture(s) off at the school office. Make sure your name is on the picture back so he can return it to you. Thanks much! God-willing, 24 8th graders will graduate in May.
