01 CARNEGIE LIBRARY
Winter 2016; advisor: Howard Weisenthal
The project is a proposed expansion and exercise in adaptive reuse of the existing Carnegie Library located in historical downtown San Luis Obispo. Working alongside real life clients such as museum curators and preservation committees, we were challenged to integrate important architectural concerns, historical preservation, and public interest. This addition to the library uses the notion of negative space, creating a project that both fulfills the client’s visions and ap-preciates its predecessor without overwhelming it.
The final project was displayed at the historical center’s Art After Dark event for the month of March, where the design proposal was discussed with the public and community leaders. This project was awarded most received by the public for its simple and elegant retention of the Carnegie Library’s historical relevance.

02 RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Spring 2016; advisor: Margaret Pedone
The project is a proposed institute for planet resources and clean energy technologies located at Morro Bay’s defunct PG&E power plant. The existing power plant has been deemed environmentally unsafe, so the whole site is redesigned as a nature preserve and public park while the 450 feet tall concrete smoke stacks are to hold a scaffold for new and developing clean energy technologies. Drivers for the design were taken from a process of observing, researching, mimicking, and abstracting ideas from local wildlife, specifically, the striped shore crab.
The final project was nominated by professor Margaret Pedone to showcase concepts and a rigorous design process learned from the quarter-long studio. These include design approaches focusing heavily on context, the subconscious mind and intuition, and methodologies.

03 PARASITE
Winter 2015; advisor: Angela BraccoPartners: Matthew O’Neill, Bennett Mueller, Eleanor Shull
The project is an exercise in analyzing site context to inform decisions to enhance an otherwise transitory space located on the third floor of a campus building. Synthesizing passerby action of strumming handrails with the auditory qualities of the site, the design creates a highly interactive installation that brings pause and appreciation to the site. Harp string, strung behind a metal mechanical duct and attached with fabricated pieces, are strummed resulting in interesting and eerie pitches as if the building is brought to life and is humming itself.
04 DESIGN VILLAGE
Spring 2015; advisor: Keith WileyPartners: Lillian Cao, Haydyn Jones, Austine de Los Santos, Amanda Yee
The project is an entry to a national competition to design a mobile, habitable structure to dwell within for one night in Poly Canyon. The project design utilizes the natural sleeping position of the design team as well as body warmth to withstand the cold environment. The physics and engineering of the structure integrates basic framing systems so that each member functions as a support, minimizing unnecessary fabrication. Construction and choice of material of the design allowed for multiple units and ease of transportation up the mile-long hike to the site.
The final project was selected by professor Ryan Brockett to be a receptacle for an evolving installation at architectural firm Ten Over Studio in downtown San Luis Obispo. The display was entered into SLO Rideshare’s Bike Month display competition.
