JALENE KANANI is a global lifestyle brand that embodies a curiosity for travel, culture, and design where luxury is the experience. Launched in 2008, JALENE KANANI collections are featured in luxury resorts and commercial properties worldwide. The designs include fabric, carpet, and glass and stone mosaic ofered through brand partners, Duralee, Durkan and Artaic.

Company namesake, JALENE KANANI, works out of her studio in Kapolei, Hawaii. Her design cues are cultivated from unique experiences, rich textures, and exciting stories she has collected from her native Hawaiian roots and expansive travel.

JALENE KANANI designs can be seen in hospitality, commercial, and residential properties world wide including Fairmont, Wyndam, Starwood, Hilton, & Disney Resorts.

You should always say, “Hello,” it might lead to something. While vacationing in the Cook Islands, a passing, “Hi” lead to a conversation that got me on a tiny plane to Aitutaki to my first Sevens Rugby match and a backyard BBQ at the Mayor’s house. Experiences are the new luxury.

On a recent layover bellied up to the charging tower, I lent my power chord to a fellow traveler, who happened to be a member of a famous Reggae band. We got to talking and became so engrossed in stories about Jamaican culture, politics, music and family ... that I missed my connecting flight. These moments connect us.

Share Your TalentsI was cruising through El Ratiro park in Madrid and came upon a few locals twirling chains with balls on the end. I thought it looked a lot like Maori Poi dancing that I did professionally along with Hula and Tahitian dance in my younger days. I made a motion with my hands to communicate that I’d like to try.

When I put two of the chains in one hand and started twirling, I could feel their excitement. A drum circle had formed a few feet away, a crowd grew, and dancing ensued. The drum beat was familiar, so I tied my scarf around my hips and did a Tahitian dance to this new beat. In the global village, we open ourselves to connect & inspire.

I must have walked up and down the block two or three times in Madrid before mustering up the courage to walk in to one of the local tapas restaurants. It

was the kind that don’t have English menus posted in the window. I stood in the doorway, not sure if I should take a seat or wait to be seated. A wide sheepish grin

got the proprietor over to usher me to a seat. Within minutes, I had help from four or five other patrons who waved their hands around the room and some

of the most amazing food and wine appeared. A few of them would become my friends for life. Experiences like these are the new luxury.

I still don’t speak Spanish.

The brand’s community are people who are curious and connected. They embrace the diversity you see in their own families, and across the globe. They don’t travel to “get away,” they travel to connect with other humans and to discover parts of themselves that they never knew

were there. They also have a huge appetite for life and discovering all that it has to offer.

Why do you call JALENE KANANI a “global lifestyle brand”?

On a practical level, my designs are inspired by places and people from my travels all around the world. On deeper level, the brand essense lives in the idea of connecting to our global similarities and embracing our unique experiences. The brand is much bigger than a specific product. The brand and designs can be licensed for fabrics, rugs, furniture, home decor, clothing, and more.

What is your vision for the brand?

I want to inspire people to connect with each other. I want them to realize how small our world really is. Travel the seven seas, sit a while, make a
