Annual Quality Assurance Report- 2009-2010

The Departments of English, Commerce, Computer Sciences and Microbiologyconducted Add-On Programmes (Value Addition Programmes) of 30-45 days duration.

Feedback was obtained from the students on the performance of the teachers. Theobtained feedback was scrutinized thoroughly and a detailed report was submitted tothe Management for follow-up actions.

Various supporting services are available in the institution for the students.

Seminars, workshops, guest lectures and symposia were conducted by variousDepartments funded by the UGC.

Part – B

1. ACTIVITIES REFLECTING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION

1.1. This institution catered to the needs of students belonging to all vulnerablecategories of the society by charging moderate fee. Students belonging to SC /ST/BC and listed minorities below the poverty line were provided with financial aidby way of scholarships. The Management support sportspersons from theweaker sections by meeting their tuition and examination fees.

1.2 Endowment scholarships instituted by various philanthropists and old studentswere awarded every year as per the stipulated norms set by the respectivetrusts / individuals to the eligible students. (Refer Annexure-1)

1.4.1 Field Trips

Dr KVNB Kumar, Principal, and Commerce Lecturers Sri I.Nageswara Rao, SriK.Charan Choudary, Sri M.Hanumaiah, Smt. M.Prameela Rani and Smt.K.Anjani Deviaccompanied the Final Year B.Com. students on an industrial trip to Effectronics Pvt.Ltd., Vijayawada, and NTPS, Ibrahimpatnam.

The students of Final Year B.A. students went on a field trip to Srisailam andMahanandi. Mr K.Venkateswara Naik and Sri D.Vithal Babu, Lecturers, Departmentof History accompanied the students.

On 5th and 6th March, 2010 Sri A. Brahmaiah, HoD of Physics, and Smt. M.Sowjanya,Lecturer in Electronics, led III and II Year B.Sc., students to Srisailam and Mahanandito visit the Hydel Power project there.

Mr. D. Siva Sankara Rao, HoD, Department of Economics, led I year B.Com. studentson an industrial tour, to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and BHPV on 13th and 14th

March, 2010.

1.5.To cater to the needs of young students, a Certificate Course in FunctionalEnglish and Personality Development was conducted for students from 16th

November, 2009 to 31st December, 2009.

1.6 Days of importance were observed by different departments of UG and PG involving thestaff and students.

3. INNOVATIONS IN CURRICULUM DESIGN AND TRANSACTIONS

A questionnaire was prepared to obtain feedback from parents and students on curriculumdevelopment and facilities available on the campus. The feedback was discussed thoroughlyat Department Meetings, Staff Council and a detailed report was submitted by the Principalto the Management for the follow -up.

Third Year Degree programmes were conducted under autonomous scheme during2009-2010

Semester System was launched for final year degree students with 20 percentinternal evaluation and 80 percent external evaluation.

PG programmes have been continuing under Semester System.

Examination Reforms were implemented in the college by conducting CIA exams,quarterly, half-yearly and semester end examinations.

Marks obtained by the students were displayed on the notice boards of therespective Departments and the students who were below average were offeredremedial coaching. To sum it up, CIE (Continuous Internal Evaluation) has beenmade more responsive to measure all the scholastic achievements of the students.

An old student of the college, Neetu Solanki who settled in US, gave a talk onPersonality Development and Career Opportunities in Chartered Accountancyto our students on 18-07-2009.

COMPUTER SCIENCES A workshop was organized by the Department of Computer Sciences and IEG on

Soft Skills on 02-09-2009.

ENGLISHWorkshops Organized

A workshop on Teaching English to Navodaya School Teachers from all overIndia was conducted from 5-8-2009 to 14-8-2009 at Navodaya LeadershipInstitute, Guntur.

A One day Workshop for Navodaya Teachers was conducted in our LanguageLab on 8-8-2009. Mr P.Gopichand and Smt. P.Nagasuseela were theresource persons. Teaching Phonetics through computers was the thrustarea.

Organized Orientation Programme on Teaching Techniques to the staffmembers of Dr KLP Public School on Teachers day, 5th September 2009. 32teachers participated in this programme. A workshop on Grammar and Communication Skills for RVR& JC B.Tech.

students was organized by Mr P.Gopichand and Smt. P.Nagasuseela atthe City Centre from 5-11-2009 to 15-11-2009.

The Department conducted a symposium on Violence on Women on 14-09-2009 at Jagarlamudi Lakshmaiah Choudary Auditorium.

The Department conducted an exhibition on Numismatics, philatelicand currency on 09-11-2009 at Jagarlamudi Lakshmaiah ChoudaryAuditorium.

On February 23rd and 24th, 2010 the Department conducted 35th AnnualConference of A P History Congress in college auditorium.

To bring awareness about our scriptures and folk art, a Harikatha on DraupadiSwayamvaram by Sri N.Sambasiva Rao and troupe, was organised.

World Peace Day was observed. A poster and a greeting card were released. Apower point presentation on War atrocities was shown to the audience.

Organized a one-act play on Randi-Chudandi-Kurushetram along with IQAC.

A Programme on Folk Art : Indrajala Pradarsana was organized.

Smt. B. Vineela of Government Degree College for Women, Guntur, spoke onLife Skills. She donated one thousand rupees to get books on counselling andcareers on 04-12-2009.

A lecture on Logistics about jobs in Shipping Industry was organized. It isimportant to note that information regarding careers and counselling have beendisplayed by many departments and the cell.

Dr. G. Aruna, Lecturer, St. Joseph’s College of Education, gave a lecture onEmotional Intelligence for our college students. This programme wasconducted jointly by Career Guidance and Counselling Cell and SadvarthanaCommittee on 04-08-2009.

The Career Guidance Cell conducted a programme on Numerical Ability bySri Raman, who has very good command on the subject, in the CollegeAuditorium on 3-3-2010. 250 students attended it.

The Cell conducted a guest lecture on Awareness on Civil Service examinationsby Sri KS Lakshmana Rao, MLC.

Another lecture was organised on employment opportunities in logistics by theLogistics institute, Vijayawada.

A special training programme was organised by the Cell to the college studentsfor various competitive examinations.

Separate competitive examinations material was prepared and distributed tothe students free of cost with the financial assistance from UGC

NCC

We are greatly privileged and proud to have a special visit by Air CommodoreHJ Walia, Deputy Director General, NCC, AP, to our college on 18-07-2009. Wehave given a warm welcome to him. Our NCC cadets presented the Guard ofHonour to Air Commodore H J Walia.

Juo. K.Girish Kumar of III B.Sc., Roll No.162 participated in Independence DayCamp held at Secunderabad from 07-08-09 to 16-08-09.

Cqms. B.Vijaya Raju of I B.Com., Roll No.870 participated in Special NationalIntegration Camp held at Prakash Synergy School, Kakinada, from 20-09-09 to01-10-09.

17 smart and courageous cadets of our college participated in flood reliefoperations near the Krishna River at Tadepalli from 05-10-09 to 08-10-09.

After clearing all the obstacles of selection process Juo U.Srikanth of II B.A., RollNo: 41, stood Second in AP contingent and got selected for Tal Sainik Camp heldat New Delhi from 18-10-09 to 04-11-09.

Our cadets visited Govt. Hostel for the blind and physically challenged schooland rendered service to the students on 19-11-09 at Brindavan Gardens. Our

cadets have raised the confidence levels in the minds of those mentallychallenged students with their interaction. Later pens, soaps and fruits weredistributed to the students.

It was a rare and happy occasion where our NCC officer Lt. T.Raghavendra Rao,SUO S.Venkateswarlu and JUO U.Srikanth received awards for their bestperformances in NCC for the year 2009 from Honorary Col. Y.R. HaragopalReddy, VC, ANU and Sri. KRM Kishore Kumar, I.G. Police, on 21-11-09, NCC DayCelebrations held at Police Parade Grounds, Guntur.

45 smart cadets of our college attended the Armed Forces Flag Day ceremonyon 07-12-09 held at Zilla Sainik Welfare Office, Guntur. Our cadets collected anamount of Rs.17086 towards Flag Day Fund from the public and from our collegestudents for the welfare of the dependent of the soldiers, who sacrificed theirlives in defence of our country.

Our cadets rendered service to the society by organizing Clean and Greenprogramme on 11-01-09 at Urban Health Center, Tufan Nagar, to make the areaclean and healthy.

Juo. K.Girish Kumar of III B.Sc., Roll No. 162 represented our college in theRepublic Day Parade-2010 held at New Delhi.

Some of the prominent activities taken up by them are:

An awareness programme on Youth for Swatchhatha was conducted forvolunteers.

Our NSS volunteers participated in pre RD Camp selections at ANU and RasoolVali was selected for Republic Day Parade Camp at New Delhi.

On the occasion of NSS Day a quiz programme was conducted.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, an awareness programme was conducted tomotivate the students on non-violence.

Our NSS students acted as vigilance squad for smooth running of exhibition onhistorical coins and stamps.

Our volunteers actively participated in collection of donations for CommunalHarmony Organization, New Delhi.

The Club takes all the care to make our college campus and its neighborhood inGuntur lush green. The members of the club undertook tree plantation in theMahaprasthanam at Sthambhalagaruvu.

The Club celebrated the Birthday of Late Sri Rajiv Gandhi with the Chief Guest,Sri B.Ramanjaneyulu, District Collector, Guntur. The Commissioner Illambaridialso participated. On that day Renewable Energy Programme was conductedwith the help of the NEDCAP.

Dental Medical Camp was conducted by NRI Medical College, Chinakakani. Twohundred students were benefited by this camp. (19-10-2009)

On 01-12-2009 the students participated in AIDS Rally from the Lodge centre toVenkateswara Vignan Mandir. Our college is selected as one of the best collegesin organizing programmes of Red Ribbon Club. The District Collector issuedMerit Certificate to the college.

Free preventive homeopathic pills for Chicken Gunya and Dengue fever weredistributed to all the students and staff.

With the help of DMHO and Health Officer free tablets for filariasis anddeworming were distributed to all students and staff.

General health survey was conducted in the slum areas of Netaji Nagar andSwarna Bharathi Nagar, Guntur.

A leading lawyer Sri. Y.Koteswara Rao gave a talk on Importance of HumanRights to bring about awareness in the students on the occasion of the World

Human Rights Day.

Parents visited the college on intimation of their wards’ progress throughphone or post card.

The interactive sessions helped the parents in getting a feedback about theirwards. The information in the interactive sessions helped the parents tomonitor their children.

During the course of Parent-Teacher Association meetings, parentsconstantly interacted with the mentors.

Appropriate remedial steps were initiated as per the suggestions of theparents.

The management arranged a novel method of getting information about theward by the parents by just dialling 2214368. They could get informationabout marks and attendance.

32. HEALTH SERVICESDr. Sudha Devi, Lady Doctor and Mr Sadasiva Rao, RMP were appointed to look afterthe health of our students. Free medicines were given to the poor and needy. The ladydoctor organized medical camps at regular intervals on our college campus.

Our Cricket Team was Winners in ANUIC West Zone Cricket Tournament.

Chandus’ Cup Cricket Tournament

The college has been organizing Chandus’ Cup Cricket Tournament for AP collegeteachers for the last 15 years in the memory of late J.Chandramouli garu, the founderPresident and his grandson Late Master J.Chandramouli. Part – CPreparation of Question Banks

Question Banks in all the subjects of teaching were prepared by the variousfaculties with the help and guidance of the experts in their respective subjectsfrom the affiliated and autonomous colleges of the ANU catchment.

Preparation of Reading Materials

Preparation of relevant reading material for certain subjects taught in theinstitution. To begin with, reading material for the English subjects forcertain classes was prepared, printed and distributed among the students ofvarious classes.

The material is aimed at helping the students to face various competitiveexaminations successfully.

Training for Competitive Examinations

The college chalked out a plan to train its students for competitiveexaminations by conducting classes on long term basis. The examinationsinclude RRB, POs for Public Sector Banks, Income Tax Officers and CentralExcise Inspectors, etc.

Guidance and Tips in Facing Interviews

The institution provided guidance for the successful students at thecompetitive examinations with useful tips. For this purpose, practical sessionswere conducted for the students to help facing the interviews.

The Rotaract Charter was started in JKC during the current year 2009-2010.Serving the society is the main motto in establishing this charter especially tothe weaker sections of the society. Among newly established Charters, ourcharter won first prize for conducting the Health survey in the slum areas.
