God has given parents comfort in His word that can help hurting parents in hard times. Jeremiah 8:22--  Is there no abalm in

Gilead? Is there no physician there? bWhy then has not the 1health of the daughter of my people 2been restored?

You Are Not Alone:1. There are other parents who have tossed

and turned on their beds throughout a sleepless night.

2. There other parents who have cried buckets full of tears until there were no more tears to cry.

3. There are other parents who have cried out to God in agony in the middle of the night on behalf of wayward, stubborn, hardhearted children, seemingly to no avail.

Jacob was at least partially responsible for the strife in his house. (Genesis 37:3-4)

Perhaps Jacob’s toleration of idols led to a lowering of his children’s standards. (Genesis 35:2, 22)

Eli certainly played a part in his sons’ disobedience. (1 Samuel 3:13-14)

By failing to teach Judges 2:7-11—The people served the LORD

all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who 1survived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD which He had done for Israel. 8 Then Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten. 9 And they buried him in the territory of ahis inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. 10 All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who adid not know the LORD, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.

By failing to set the proper example: Jacob failed to keep his commitments. (Genesis

28:16-22; 35:1-7) David failed to set a good example before his sons.

(2 Samuel 11-12) David coveted what was not his: Bathsheba. David committed adultery with her. David murdered her husband to cover it up.

David’s sons: Amnon saw, coveted and took his half-sister Tamar. Absalom tried to take his father’s kingdom, and did

take his father’s concubines. Adonijah, in David’s old age, coveted and tried to

take his brother’s kingdom.
