Jackie
Jones
NOMINATION CATEGORY
Citizen of the Year
REASONS FOR NOMINATION
Jackie is the epitome of Community. She is a loyal and dedicated community member
who readily changes her own personal commitments in order to support a myriad of
community events. From an education community perspective, Jackie is a fierce
defender of the whole school community. As the secondary coordinator, part of her role
has been to represent the voice of secondary students and staff at Administration
meetings. She is a strong mentor to new teachers. Jackie has often been the leader of
the social club and continues to be the leader of the Student Council. For many years,
Jackie has run the Workplace Learning program in the school and is the Year 10 Form
Teacher. One of Jackie’s most important innovations to both the school and the
Corrigin community is involving students in the Bushrangers group. Jackie is also
instrumental in organising students to attend and participate in our local ANZAC Day
Service, in particular the Dawn Service.
HOW HAS THE NOMINEE DEMONSTRATED ACTIVE
CITIZENSHIP AND ENHANCEMENT OF CORRIGIN
COMMUNITY LIFE? Jackie has been a significant contributor to the local Rotary Club of Corrigin and the
Corrigin Senior Citizens’ Committee, holding the position of President and Secretary over
a number of years. Through those avenues she has demonstrated active citizenship and
enhancement of Corrigin community life for a range of different people.
HOW HAS THE NOMINEE’S CONTRIBUTION BEEN
RECOGNISED ELSEWHERE? Jackie is a quiet achiever who doesn’t seek recognition for the enormous effort and
contribution she makes to our community. In 2007 Jackie was awarded Life
Membership by the Corrigin Netball Club, this being the highest accolade a club can
make of its members.
In recognition of the significant contribution Jackie has made to the Rotary Club of
Corrigin, past President Jackie Jones was awarded the highest award an individual
Rotarian can receive, being named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2011.
Both teachers and students of Corrigin District High School continue to voice their
praise for Mrs Jones and foreign exchange students have welcomed her into their own
homes many years later, thus completing the circle of friendship. As a result of the
Jackie’s contribution to the Corrigin community and broader local community, we are
raising a generation of young people who have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to
influence our global community.

Corrigin.

safety or contact help if required.

Since David has left Wogerlin House, Levi has continued to visit the other
residents, providing a bright spot in their days. Levi is a positive example of

‘Seniors’
Games’
Making a difference in the Corrigin community
NOMINATION CATEGORY Active Citizenship (Group / Event)
REASONS FOR NOMINATION
It took many months of practice by our teams and many hours of organisation to put
the day together. The town hall looked wonderful with our sponsor's gift bags, colours,
flowers and banners around the walls. Eight teams/towns were represented: Kellerberrin,
Kulin, Tammin, Merredin, Hopetoun, Southern Cross, Lake Grace and of course Corrigin.
We play games modified for Seniors "We don't have to run!! We get to sit down and
still have fun"!! Basketball, Target Volleyball, Golf Putting and Shuffleboard. Also a quiz
for those not participating in the more energetic sports.
HOW HAS THE NOMINEE DEMONSTRATED ACTIVE
CITIZENSHIP AND ENHANCEMENT OF CORRIGIN
COMMUNITY LIFE?
Our Shire President opened the Seniors’ Games, our school children put on two items
for our entertainment and six high school students spent the day with us to help catch
wayward basketballs, beanbags and golf balls. The donations of food on the day and
volunteers who helped make the day possible are all part of our wonderful community.
HOW HAS THE NOMINEE’S CONTRIBUTION BEEN
RECOGNISED ELSEWHERE?
Each town mentioned above has a turn at running the Seniors’ Games annually. There
is a meeting held at the end of the day. This is the time the participating towns share
ideas and suggestions. Our towns being so far apart mean overnight stays to organise
or in most cases two night stays. With mobile phones taking instant photos we have
since had several inquiries from other towns as to how they can start a competition
just like ours.

Auskick
‘NeuTech
Cup’
Making a difference in the Corrigin community
NOMINATION CATEGORY Active Citizenship (Group / Event)
REASONS FOR NOMINATION The NeuTech Cup Junior Football Carnival (previously called the Auskick Lightning Carnival)
is held annually in July and has been running for over 20 years. Organised by the local
Corrigin Auskick Committee, the Carnival has continued to be a very successful event and is
a highlight of the junior football calender. The carnival continues to attract a large number
of participants with clubs travelling from Quairading, Merredin, Hyden, Kulin/Kondinin,
Brookton, Bruce Rock & Pingelly.
HOW HAS THE NOMINEE DEMONSTRATED ACTIVE
CITIZENSHIP AND ENHANCEMENT OF CORRIGIN
COMMUNITY LIFE? The NeuTech Cup Carnival is a very well organised event, attracting over 120 players and their supporters. All the junior footballers participating in the carnival, from age 5 up to
10 years experience country football at its best, playing with your friends, with emphasis
on sportsmanship and with a high level of skill. The NeuTech Cup is also unique in that it
offers the opportunity for our ‘Little Tackers’ aged 5-8 to participate in a carnival as this
is usually only reserved for the ‘Auskickers’ age group in other carnivals we attend in the
area. These kids are the future of our towns and as country towns start to get smaller we
need to promote the importance of being part of your local team and ensuring the future
of country junior football is bright, when you attend the NeuTech Cup is becomes pretty
obvious that this is the case! The passion and effort put in by all involved, not just the
players is inspiring. The Carnival showcases the huge importance of our local volunteers
who work tirelessly in the lead up to and on the day to ensure the day runs smoothly, a
huge number of helpers are required. From setting up the ovals, coaching, umpiring,
recording, and running the very busy canteen it is a real team effort and it is always
encouraging to see so many junior football families and other members of our community
offer their assistance. Without this, the event could not be run so successfully.
HOW HAS THE NOMINEE’S CONTRIBUTION BEEN
RECOGNISED ELSEWHERE? The NeuTech Cup is a highly anticipated Carnival each year. We have always had a lot of
support from surrounding towns and it is a fantastic opportunity to showcase both the
Community spirit of Corrigin and its volunteers to be able to host such a large, successful
event year in year out and also to make use of our brilliant facilities we now have at the
Corrigin Recreation and Events Centre. We continue to receive positive feedback from
participating clubs and their players and parents. We look forward to the Carnival
continuing well into another 20 years of supporting local junior football.
