We were delighted to welcome the boys to the new music school this week. Their enthusiasm and excitement have been infectious. The first concert in the new building took place on Monday night - please see Mr Nixon’s review. All extra-curricular clubs and rehearsals are running, please check this page in Junior Views each week for any amend-ments. The weekly rehearsal schedule can now be found in the back of the summer term paper calendar.

The first Priory Soloists’ recital takes place on Wednesday 2 May and parents of boys performing have been informed. Finally, a quick reminder that lockers for musical instru-ments in the new building are allocated on a daily basis and boys should take their instruments home after a lesson or rehearsal to practise. Please remember to check that instruments are clearly labelled.

Changes to rehearsal schedule next week:

King’S PiAno coMPetition 2018

On Monday 23 April, 41 pianists (20 from the Junior School) took part in the final round of the King’s Piano Competition 2018. A record 94 pianists had taken part in the first round of the competition last month and this was the very first event in the spectacular concert hall of our new music school. It was also the first opportunity for pupils to perform on our new Steinway Model D grand piano in this hall. This is a magnificent instrument, one of the finest in the country, and everyone performed with outstanding commitment and flair. Every boy introduced his piece beforehand, including interesting information that they had researched about it. A new junior category was also introduced this year – the Junior Novices Category (for boys in grades 2 to 4), and there were also the two more advanced age-related categories for soloists and the junior duet category. Our adjudicator, Roberto Russo, a concert pianist, composer and professor at Con-servatoire ‘Francesco Venezze’, Rovigo (who visited us from Italy) was very impressed with the playing and professional presentation of the boys. He also took great care over his decisions, as there were so many excellent performances to consider. This was a fitting way to launch the new Steinway piano in the new concert hall and all performers should be justifiably proud of their playing in the 2018 competi-tion. The following prizes were awarded:

William and Oliver were victo-rious at the Surrey Schools Ten-nis Association Doubles Tour-nament. After not dropping a game in the group stages and semi-final against Whitgift, the boys lost the first set of the fi-nal against St George’s College, to then win the second set 4-0. The championship tie-break went the way of the King’s boys – 10-8! A fantastic display of re-silience!

ubiquitous – “being (or at least seeming to be) everywhere at once”

From the Latin ubi (= “where”) and ubique (= “everywhere”).

Johnny’s mum dragged him into the ubiquitous coffee chain with the green logo even though the cake in the local café was far more delicious.
