EXTERNAL PROCESSES
The User Experience
LAUNCHING OF THE LMS
• Create a clear business training need as part of the initial
business case for launching the LMS.
• Before launching, form a core implementation team which involves IT, and content developers.
• Create Launching stages to ensure the launching process is easily achievable.
• Team up Project Manager with Technical Implementation Manager to facilitate the IT side of the launching
LAUNCHING OF THE LMS (CONT.)
• Pilot with a small group that possesses a cross-section of computer skills and openness to online learning. Try to determine how existing workflow will map to the LMS before and during the pilot.
• Use the pilot to determine pitfalls in marketing, end-user training, workflow map and output.
• Ensure that the interfaces between the LMS and its data collection function are supported by the Web-based development programs.
LAUNCHING OF THE LMS (CONT.)
• Identify up front the technical, project management, and interpersonal abilities that are essential competencies for members of the project team.
• Create a communication plan and process for the implementation team on the company’s intranet.
• Before installation of first course in the LMS, discuss and walk through every process the training department expects to use on the LMS with a business analyst from the LMS vendor.
• Identify any required customizations, work-arounds, or limitations of the LMS before users run into problems.
LAUNCHING OF THE LMS (CONT.)
• Give everyone on the team full access to technical reports, and give everyone the ability to contribute reports, ask questions, and raise issues
• Pre-train the selected team members in any skills they must share before launching begins.
