Journey to the Jurassic Age! Bringing the Museum to You[AGES: 6-9] YOU-2501-06Day OneExplore the REAL Jurassic world with Betsy Carlson from the Burpee Museum of Natural History! What was the Jurassic environment like? Discover what dinosaurs lived during this time and why they went extinct. You will see pictures of Burpee’s dig site, see actual Jurassic age bones and create a model Jurassic world. Campers will also learn about the armor that many of these dinosaurs were equipped with such as spikes, clubs and plates. How did this armor function and how did they protect themselves from predators? How was it possible for such huge dinosaurs to function and move? Get the low down on special structures found in their bodies and discover how big they actually got. Create your own giant sauropod!

Day TwoCan you imagine a dinosaur hatching from an egg? Get the latest research on dinosaur nests and their eggs. Learn about egg structure and research the size of dinosaur eggs. You will make a nest display with eggs hatching and a dinosaur puppet. Before the end of this camp, you will put your knowledge to the test and participate in a simulated dig for bones using the same methods used by anthropologists!

During camp students will have the unique opportunity to handle and examine both casts and real artifacts from the museum! Students will be supervised during lunch and should bring a sack lunch that does not require refrigeration. [1 week-2 sessions]Tue-Wed Jun 12-13 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Room: B-216 Betsy Carlson $103

RADICAL ROBOTICS [AGES: 8-12] YOU-2124-06Construct, code, command…repeat! Discover the world of robotics as you build not one, but multiple robots, piece by piece. Once your design is complete you will then tackle basic coding functions in order to program various commands. You could build a humanoid robot that walks on two legs or even a crocodile that wags its tail! Whatever it may be, this class is the perfect mix of physics, engineering and computer science that kids will be sure to love! Students will also work on a small project that they can take home at the end of class. [1 week-4 sessions]Mon-Thu Jun 11-14 9 a.m.-12 p.m.Room: CTC-216 Tricia Haynes $89

Whether you realize it or not, they all explore Science, Engineering and Mathematical [STEM] concepts through their tales. Each day discover a new story, along with participating in both individual and partnered, hands-on projects. These projects will be presented with an assortment of materials to allow creativity and unique expression with each experiment. Students will keep track of their projects in a journal which will go home on the last day of class. [1 week-4 sessions]Mon-Thu Jun 25-28 9 a.m.-12 p.m.Room: B-216 Tanya Smith $69

In this cutting edge class, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. There is $19 lab fee for the VR headset, which has been included in the cost of the class. [1 week-4 sessions]Mon-Thu Jun 25-28 9 a.m.-12 p.m.Room: CTC-208 Marty Makransky $138
