ITMT 2322 Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration

A. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course prepares students for Exam 70-643: TS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring. It focuses on deploying servers and configuring Remote Desktop services, Web services infra-structure, and network application services.

B. COURSE GOALS & OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of this course you will have accomplished the following:

Deployment This module discusses using Windows Deployment Services (WDS) to deploy Windows operating systems to client and server computers. Students will learn about four types of WDS images, installation of WSD, managing WDS images, and deploying an image to multiple computers using WDS Multicast.

Activation In this module students will learn how to manage Windows Activation to verify that the installation of Windows is properly licensed. They will also learn methods for performing volume licensing.

Storage This module covers management of server and network storage. Three types of storage are discussed: Directly Attached Storage (DAS), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and Storage Area Network (SAN). Strategies for managing disk and volumes for DAS are discussed as well as the methods typically used to create the SAN fabric. Students will also become familiar with the tools used to manage SANs.

Virtualization In Module 4 students will learn the basics of virtualization. They will learn how to configure virtual machines and Hyper-V, create a virtual network, and manage multiple Hyper-V and virtual servers.

High Availability Module 5 teaches the students the tools to configure high availability. They will learn how to configure DNS Round Robin, create a Network Load Balancing (NLB) cluster, and configure Failover Clustering.

Remote Desktop Services Module 6 discusses the details of Remote Desktop Services. Students will learn how to configure Remote Desktop Services client and server connections. They will learn how to use Remote Desktop Connection and Remote Desktops to manage connections to session hosts, install and configure RD Session Host and RD licensing, connect to a server using RD Web Access, configure remote applications, provide load balancing and fault tolerance for multiple remote desktop servers, configure RD Gateway policies, and configure and monitor Remote Desktop resources through the use of Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM) and registry keys.

Web Services In Module 7 students will learn how to configure and manage Web services. They will learn how to manage Internet Information Services (IIS), Web sites, and Web applications, configure IIS Authentication and Authorization, configure Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security through the use of digital certificates, create a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site, and configure an SMTP server.

Network Application Services This module discusses network application services. Students will learn how to configure Windows Media Services (WMS) settings, use Windows SharePoint Foundation (WSF) 2010 to share data.

C. PRE-REQUISITES/CO-REQUISITES

You should have the following knowledge and skills prior to starting the course. In some cases it may be possible to acquire this knowledge and these skills through additional study during the course:

Knowledge of the fundamentals of networking technology Ability to navigate Windows Server operating systems (preferably Server 2003) BCIS 1405 and either ITNW 1358 or ITNW 1325

I will normally respond within 24 hours Monday-Thursday and by the next business day on Friday-Sunday.

F. CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY Attendance is mandatory. Students missing more than three classes MAY lose one letter grade for each day missed after those three.

G. ADDITIONAL MATERIALS 1. Highlighters; at least two 2. Scantron needed for Final Exam only.

H. COURSE SCHEDULE

The course schedule will be distributed during the first week of class.

J. LATE COURSE WORK POLICY Five points will be deducted for each day an assignment is late. A second late assignment will be assigned the actual grade reduced by 50%.

K. EXAM POLICY There will be an average of one exam/quiz for each chapter/section.

L. GRADING SUMMARYFinal grades are determined through a weighted average of chapter quizzes and the

final examination, Your final grade in the course will be based on the following: Quizzes & Labs 90%

After your numerical grade has been calculated, your letter grade will be determined as follows: A 90–100% of the total points possible

B 80–89% of the total points possible

C 70–79% of the total points possible

D 60–69% of the total points possible

F Less than 60% of the total points possible

“I”.…..Incomplete. No Incompletes or “I” grades will be given except for extreme circumstances. If an “I” grade

is assigned and the course work is not completed by the pre-arranged time limit, this grade will convert to an “F”.

“W”….Withdrawal. Students who file withdrawal requests by the published deadline will receive a grade of W. It is recommended that the student talk to the instructor before withdrawing. If a decision is made to withdraw, the student must start the process at the Enrollment Services Center, room A-100. Failure to withdraw by the deadline may result in a grade of F.

M. CLASSROOM PROTOCOL It is the right of each student to participate in his or her learning, and it is the responsibility of each student to not interfere with the learning of other students. Policies governing the classroom are provided in the ACC student Handbook and students who repeatedly violate one or more of these policies will be subject to disciplinary action. Classroom policies specific to this classroom are included in the Student Information Plan.
