Technology that Technology that assistsassists teachers teachers in in adjustingadjusting, , adaptingadapting or or augmentingaugmenting teaching and learning teaching and learning to support individual learners or to support individual learners or groups of learners.groups of learners.

Example: A teacher uses a classroom Website to augment her STEM unit on Electric Cars. She also has some students working on a Web-based drill and practice program to help them build the math skills they will need in that unit.

Technologies: Web-based resources or software based learning systems such as PLATO or Study Island that help students augment their learning.

Technology that supports students Technology that supports students and teachers in and teachers in dealing dealing effectively witheffectively with datadata,, including including data management, manipulation, data management, manipulation, and displayand display

Example: Students use a Web-based survey tool to collect data on a local environmental problem and then enter that information into a spread sheet program which they use to conduct a systematic data analysis.

Technologies: On-line survey tools such as Survey Monkey, spread sheet software programs, data base software programs, chart and graph making programs.

Technology that supports students Technology that supports students and teachers in conducting and teachers in conducting inquiry, inquiry, including the effective including the effective use of Internet research methodsuse of Internet research methods

Example: Students complete a teacher-developed WebQuest to develop baseline knowledge about sensors and their many uses in today’s world. They then use Internet research strategies to find answers to new questions raised by their WebQuest learning experience.

Technologies: Web-based research tools such as WebQuests, Hot-lists, or Treasure Hunts. Internet Search Engines, on-line libraries, on-line encyclopedias, etc.

Technology that supports students Technology that supports students and teachers in and teachers in simulatingsimulating real real world phenomena including the world phenomena including the modeling of physical, social, modeling of physical, social, economic, and mathematical economic, and mathematical relationshipsrelationships

Example: In a science class students use simulation software to build a virtual greenhouse and then model the effects of various weather conditions on plant growth. In a biology lab students use a Web-based tutorial to conduct a virtual frog dissection.

Technologies: Web-based or software based simulation games. Web-based or software based modeling programs. For example, Sim City or Net Frog.

Technology that supports students Technology that supports students and teachers in and teachers in communicating communicating and collaboratingand collaborating including the including the effective use of multimedia tools effective use of multimedia tools and online collaborationand online collaboration

Example: Students use teleconferencing, Skype, or speaker phone technology to collaborate with students from a different school district. Later, they develop a slide show which they send to those students as an e-mail attachment to communicate the main findings from their engineering design project.

Technologies: Web boards, teleconferencing, speaker phones, e-mail, Web meetings, presentation software (ex. PowerPoint), word processing programs, desktop publishing software, digital cameras, video editing software, photo-editing software etc.
