Anne-Charlotte Perrigaud

Anne-Charlotte Perrigaud holds a Master of Arts in French and English Translation (ULIP, University of London). She is a freelance translator specializing in Cyberdefense and legal issues in the IT field. She started her freelance business in France in 2003, and in 2012 she began training translators and SMEs in her specialist fields. A member of the French SFT (Société Française des Traducteurs) and of IAPTI (International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters), she has spoken at various online and in-person professional events and symposiums around Europe. She knows how to motivate and activate audiences large and small, and how to sustainably anchor knowledge using analogies and examples that are easy to follow and remember.

Anthony Berris

Anthony (Tony) Berris graduated from the Beit Berl College Department of Translation and subsequently taught there for fifteen years. An eclectic translator, he has translated works by some of Israel’s leading Hebrew writers and playwrights, including the subject of his lecture, Yoram Kaniuk. He is a member of Kibbutz Beit Ha’emek where he works with his translator-daughter, Margalit Rodgers.

Avraham Schurder

Born in England, Mr. Schurder is a qualified CPA. He established his firm, Schurder Consultancy, after 25 fruitful years as a senior audit partner in the firm of KPMG Somekh Chaikin, in the belief that developing companies requires a complete solution that helps them cope with their business challenges. Bryna Lee Jacobson

Founder of My Tech Tutor, Bryna Lee Jacobson made aliyah in 2009 from Chicago/Skokie. With a background as a CPA, she was an early adopter of personal computer technology, portable computing and began using a Windows Smartphone before the iPhone was even released... Keeping up with a moving target isn't easy, but this is exactly the task that Bryna Lee has set for herself. David Canek

David Canek is the founder and CEO of Memsource, a software company providing cloud translation technology based in Prague, Czech Republic. David, a graduate in Translation and Comparative Studies, received his education at Charles University, Prague, Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Vienna. His professional experience includes product management and business development roles in the software and translation industries. David has delivered a number of presentations on innovative trends in the translation industry, such as machine translation post-editing or translation software in the cloud, at leading industry conferences.

Delphine Guérou

Delphine Guérou is a French professional translator for the English and German languages. She studied translation, terminology and interpreting in France. She graduated in 2013 and the same year started working at GxP Language Services in Germany. Since then, she has been managing projects and translating texts in the cosmetic, medical (ophthalmological) and pharmaceutical fields. She also takes part in the Alexandria Projects, and regularly creates and uploads TMs and glossaries of all kinds for the Alexandria Library.

Eetta Prince-Gibson

Eetta Prince-Gibson is an award-winning, multi-genre journalist and lecturer on Israeli society and politics. In January 2012, Eetta stepped down after more than five years as the editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Report; prior to assuming her position at The Jerusalem Report, she served as a special correspondent for The Washington Post bureau in Jerusalem. She currently writes regularly for Ha'aretz, al-Monitor and Moment Magazine, and her writing and commentary have also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Slate, Tablet and numerous other publications. She has reported from communities and crises situations around the world, including Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and Mumbai after the 2008 terrorist attacks. Eetta has also lectured on the social and political status of women at Hebrew University and at Brandeis University, and is currently pursuing her PhD in women's studies and political psychology. She lives in Jerusalem.

Eliezer Nowodworski

ATA-certified (English>Spanish), Eliezer has been translating since 1978 (full-time since 1989). His main fields are technical translation, interpreting and localization – security, defense, communications, and logistics. His experience in other fields includes translating Latin American history books published in Mexico, Peru, and Argentina and travel guides published in Spain.

Ellen Singer

Ellen Singer is a translator with nearly twenty years of experience as a full-time translator and project manager. She co-owns a small technical translation agency that focuses on quality: AzTech Solutions (www.aztech.nl).

Ellen has been working with CAT tools since the 1990s, has enjoyed the improvements over time, but dislikes the constraints imposed by some current developments. She loves challenges and knowledge and enjoys cooperating with others.

She believes that mathematics and technology are languages that can be mastered!

Eve Hecht & Carl Wurzel

Eve Hecht is a freelance translator from German, Hebrew and French to English, with ATA certifications in German to English and French to English, and ITA recognition in Hebrew to English. She is also an instructor (since 1999) in New York University's Translation Studies Program, teaching courses in legal and commercial translation. While she thought she specialized in legal translation, life is funny, and this year's presentation proves that we never know where our career paths will take us.

Carl Wurtzel is an ATA-certified Arabic to English translator. He works as a freelance translator from Arabic, Tagalog, and Hebrew to English. Since 2008 he has been an instructor in New York University’s Translation Studies Program, teaching courses in the translation of Arabic commercial, legal, medical, and government documents. He can’t stand the sight of blood and hates going to the doctor, but for some reason medical and pharmaceutical documents have become a major part of his translation work.

Fernanda Rocha

With a B.A. in Translation and an English Teaching Degree, both from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais, Brazil), Fernanda Rocha is a translator since 2001 and also works as a proofreader, localizer and transcriber. She has experience in several areas, including education/pedagogy, literature/fiction, marketing/market research, medicine, IT, SEO, games, OHS, HR and administration. Fernanda Rocha has been observing the market and the behavior of translators and hiring companies for quite some time now, and was able to gather lots of materials and tips to share on her fields of expertise, professional and succe$$ful attitude, online presence, negotiation, meeting new clients, among other topics. One of the areas of greatest interest of the professional is the translator/reviser relationship. The subject was theme of her final paper work at the university and she has already presented the study in congresses and conferences approaching the topic: “The Translator/Reviser Relationship: What Are Its Effects on the Final Translation?”

Hilary Faverman

Hilary believes in the power and purpose of passionate, clear, invigorating content. An originally hesitant American olah, she spent the past 15 years dedicated to corporate communications and messaging, and the most recent five years as the Director of Marketing and Community Management at a boutique outsourcing firm.

A perennial overachiever, Hilary is a published writer and springboards her expertise in content marketing and social media into producing successful digital marketing campaigns for her entrepreneur clients.

Hilary is also a mama to three, a baker of pies and a lover of sarcasm.

Igor Vesler

Senior research associate at the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (Kyiv, Ukraine) (1973-1989) and Manager, Production and Product Development, at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (New York, NY) (1990-2000). Since 1975, freelance Russian and Ukrainian legal and technical translator and interpreter. Currently, an independent consultant at Diken Research (New York, NY), an LSP in industries such as oil and gas, nuclear engineering, aerospace engineering and missile technology, international banking and project financing, and law. Accredited by ATA in the English/Russian language pair and by Berlitz International as an English/Ukrainian court interpreter. Member of ATA, ITA, and AIAA.

Joanna Chen

Joanna Chen is a poet, essayist and literary translator whose writings have been published in Poet Lore, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Asymptote, Newsweek, Haaretz, and Cactus Heart. Chen teaches creative writing and editing at The David Yellin College of Education and recently lectured at the IFAW conference on the subject of “Creative Writing and the Challenge of Teaching Creativity”. She translates the poetry of Agi Mishol and Nadav Linial.

Josephine Bacon

Josephine Bacon now lives in London. She was a pupil at the Lycée Charles de Gaulle in London where she also learned Russian. She has been a professional translator and interpreter for 54 years, mostly from French and Hebrew into English (and in both directions as an interpreter) also in Russian for the Israel Scientific Translations Program. She specialized in legal work as her father and brother were both lawyers. She lived in Israel for ten years, working originally as a translator and as a researcher and editor at the Encyclopedia Judaica. Trained as a simultaneous interpreter through the Hebrew University course run by Dr. Stefan Schwamm of the Vienna School of Interpreting. She lived in Cyprus for two years, working as a translator for the US government (from Hebrew, French and Russian) and in California for four years where she worked mainly as a legal translator and court interpreter in French and Hebrew. She has interpreted at the European Court of Justice. She also speaks several other languages. She has written 20 books, including two Jewish histories, two travel books, three books on fungi and cookery books. She has self-published “The Jews of Poland,” “The Jewish Cookery Book” (facsimile of the first American-Jewish cookery book), “Exotic Fruits and Vegetables A-Z” and “A Sprig of Dill” (a Romanian memoir).

Leanne Ravid

Theater actress turned English teacher turned writer/editor, South African-born Leanne Ravid loves the English language in all its glorious forms. Leanne completed a BA degree and Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town. She also holds a teaching diploma from Seminar HaKibbutzim and an editing diploma from Beit Berl College. Since her aliyah in 1992, Leanne has taught high school English, written and developed numerous teaching materials for EFL, and edited a wide variety of marketing materials, as well as over twenty cookbooks. She is currently writing for Eric Cohen Books, but spends much of her time editing and nitpicking.

Marek Pawelec

Marek Pawelec graduated in Molecular Biology at the Jagiellonian University in 1992 and worked as researcher at the faculties of Medicine and Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland. In 2001 he began to work as a full time English to Polish freelance translator: started with literature, later added technical translations of medical, biochemical and chemical texts. Translated 31 novels and several millions pages of medical texts, mainly medical equipment manuals, but also a lot of pharmacology, IVD and clinical trials-related texts. Experienced computer aided translation (CAT) software user and trainer. Certified memoQ trainer. Lectured at several translation conferences. Teaches on practical aspects of freelance translation, CAT tools and translation-related software. He is interested in technical communication and terminology management, and lends a hand to Translator Without Borders whenever he can.

Meshulam Gotlieb

Meshulam Gotlieb was awarded his Bachelors in English Literature and Talmud and his Masters in English Literature by Bar Ilan University. He is an alumnus of Yeshivat Sha’alvim and Beit Morasha of Jerusalem, and received rabbinical ordination from Beit Midrash Meretz. He lives in Beit Shemesh, Israel, with his wife and four children, and for the last decade has been working as a freelance Hebrew to English translator and English-language editor, specializing in Judaic and Torah Studies. Micaela Ziv

Born and educated in England, where bidirectional translation was the mode of instruction for classical and modern languages alike, Micaela Ziv completed her university degrees at the Hebrew University in French and Linguistics. After nearly three decades in the education system as a teacher, coordinator and teacher trainer, she ‘came to her senses’ and opened Ziv Group Ltd. in 2003, and now spends most of her time doing what she likes best - translating.

Moshe Devere

Moshe Devere has been translating since coming on Aliya – reading, translating, and applying German machine manuals for the kibbutz furniture factory where he worked. He has many years of worker-training; holds university degrees, a teaching certificate, as well as professional diplomas. He concentrates on the entire translation process: emphasizing making the work easier while eliminating frustration. Moshe Taube & Deborah Greniman

Moshe Taube is Chair of the Department of Linguistics and Tamara and Saveli Grinberg Professor of Russian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received his BA and MA in linguistics from the Hebrew University and completed his PhD in Slavic linguistics at the Université de Paris–Sorbonne. He has served as Head of the Institute of Arts and Letters at the Hebrew University, a Mihaychuk Research Fellow at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, and head of the research group “Cultural Archaeology of Jews and Slavs: Medieval and Early Modern Judaeo-Slavic Cross-Fertilization” at the Hebrew University’s Institute of Advanced

Deborah Greniman is Senior Editor of English-language Publications in the Publications Department of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem. She is also the initiator and Managing Editor of Nashim: A Journal of Jewish Women's Studies and Gender Issues (published by the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies, the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute and Indiana University Press), an independent translator and writer, and a member of the Israel Translators Association.

Natalie Shahova

Natalie Shahova is a translation-agency manager with a background in mathematics and 23 years of experience in translation. She is a member of the Union of Translators of Russia, while her agency is a corporate member of the American Translators Association. Her translation of Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss was included on the short list for the Unicorn and Lion award for the best Russian translation of British literature, cosponsored by the British Council. Her agency (EnRus) counts Microsoft, Schneider Electric, and Morgan Stanley among its customers.

Nuria Brufau-Alvita

Nuria Brufau-Alvita got her PhD in Translation Studies at the University of Salamanca (Spain) in 2009, and has since then worked as a lecturer in various universities and countries teaching translation, communication, Spanish as a foreign language, and feminism, amongst other courses. Thanks to her research, she is also familiar with Gender Studies. Before coming to Israel, she lived in Sudan (Africa) for three years, where she worked on women’s rights. She is also a literary translator. She has translated several novels and, very recently, a poetry book. In 2010, she published a book on Translation and Feminism. She is currently working at Bar Ilan University in the Translation Department as a teacher of Spanish.

Pascale Amozig-Bukszpan

Born in France, Pascale grew up in Paris. She received a BA in Languages and Economics and a Master of Arts in Translation from Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle, and holds a postgraduate diploma in Linguistics and Lexicology from Université Paris 13. Before immigrating to Israel, in 1991, she served as a translator-terminologist at the Royal Bank of Canada, Montreal. Since then, she has been involved in numerous linguistic projects for high-tech companies.

Pascale designs and teaches workshops about localization and internationalization project management. From 2006 to 2011, she taught localization in the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle, in Paris.

Besides her training activities, she is a localization consultant for multilingual projects, focusing on internationalization, quality control, translation tools and industry standards methodology.

She has been a member of the ITA since 2005, held the position of Treasurer in 2007, Head of Annual Conference Organizing Committee from 2006 to 2010 and Chair in 2009-2010.

Since July 2014, she is Globalization Project Manager at Treato, a big data analytics company in the health sector, where she is responsible for centralizing the company’s globalization and internationalization activities.

Perry Zamek

Born in Australia, Perry immigrated to Israel in 1987. He has qualifications in Computer Science, Jewish History, Hebrew and Education. Holds official recognition from Australia's National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) since 1987, and ITA recognition. Works in both translation and computer programming, with experience in typesetting and graphics. ITA member since 1987; seven years on the ITA Vaad (three years as Treasurer, two years as Chairman); comoderator of the Jerusalem Translators Group (JTG) for over 10 years. Areas of work: official documents, reports, legal, higher education and EdTech, Judaica. Professional interests: professional certification, continuing education, resource development.

Prof. Ruth Fine

Ruth Fine is Salomon and Victoria Cohen Professor in Iberian and Latin American Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she acts as the Director of the European Forum and the Institute of Western Cultures. Her fields of expertise are semiotics, literary theory and Iberian literatures and cultures, areas in which she has published books and articles. She acts as the President of the Israeli Association of Hispanists and Vice-President of the AIH (Asociación Internacional de Hispanistas). She was awarded the "Orden del Mérito Civil" by the King of Spain for her contribution to Spanish culture.

Ruth Moses

After a rather varied career – stage manager at Habimah, technical manager at the Beer Sheba Theater, later a flower shop owner, and then a typist and editor at a in a publishing house, formatting and preparing the DTP for dictionaries and glossaries, Ruth went to work for a translation agency as office manager, and so entered the translation world via the back door. There Ruth started translating on a very minor scale, and on a much larger scale started working with Microsoft Word, formatting large, complex documents (prospectuses, financial state statements, etc.) containing, among other things, vast numbers of tables of various sizes, shapes and complexities.

About 12 years ago, Ruth graduated from the Beit Berl translation and editing program, and has been actively working in translation ever since, although over the past few years translation per se has taken a backseat to DTP and formatting work in Microsoft Word.

Sara Kitai

Born and raised in New York, Sara has a degree in Literature from the State University of New York and studied Translation at Bar Ilan. She was involved in developing the high school translation program, training teachers and serving as national coordinator. She also taught translation at Beit Berl. Sara has been a translator for over 30 years.

Shoshana London Sappir

Shoshana London Sappir, a journalist, translator and social activist, was born in the U.S. and grew up in Israel. She has a B.A. in Arabic Language and Literature from Hebrew University and an M.Ed. from Harvard University. London Sappir was a staff correspondent for Reuters, Associate Editor of The Jerusalem Report, and a core founder of the Sudbury Jerusalem Democratic School. She has won five American Jewish Press Association awards. She translates from Hebrew to English and vice versa in the social sciences, humanities and law. For the last year, London Sappir has volunteered as an Arabic-Hebrew interpreter for the Physicians for Human Rights Mobile Clinic.

Stephen Rifkind

Stephen Rifkind has been translating for 10 years, having made the transition to full-time translator three years ago. He translates from French, Hebrew and Russian into English, specializing in legal and financial materials. His background is eclectic: a BA in Russian, Teaching Credentials in French, an MBA, and a year of law studies. He has been a lecturer at Ort Braude in Carmiel for 22 years and still teaches a few hours a week, mainly as a way to get away from the computer.

Dr. Tal Goldfajn

Dr Goldfajn teaches Translation Theory and Spanish/Portuguese Hebrew translation in the Diploma Studies in Translation and Revision, and is a lecturer at the Latin American Studies BA course, Tel Aviv University. She completed her PhD at Oxford University, Linguistics Department, and is the author of Word Order and Time in Biblical Hebrew Narrative (Oxford University Press, 1998, Oxford Scholarship Online: 2011). She has guest-edited, together with Sitman and Preuss, a special issue on Translation and History in Latin America for the Estudios Interdisciplinarios de America Latina y el Caribe. Her research interests include translation and linguistics, history and identity in Latin America, translation theory and multilingualism. She is the Managing Editor of the Mediterranean Historical Review (Routledge and Tel Aviv University). She is a practicing translator (Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, Catalan, Hebrew), and is presently editing and translating the first Hebrew anthology of the poetry of Carlos Drummond de Andrade (Asia Publishers with the support of Biblioteca Nacional do Brasil), and the play “A Kiss in the Asphalt” by Nelson Rodrigues (Asia Publishers with the support of Biblioteca Nacional do Brasil). In 2015, she will coordinate the research group on Multilingualism in Israel at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.

Zöe Zhai Yu

Zöe Zhai Yu is a writer and translator. In 2010, five poems were published in Just a Coin’s Worth of Blue: Fifteen New Macao Voices, and she co-translated Li Qing Zhao: Spring Hides in the Little Room. In 2014, she translated and published Un Amico Italiano Italiano: Eat, Pray, Love in Rome and her first novel Cow No. 3963 (both eBooks). In Israel, she does professional simultaneous interpreting and consecutive translation for political meetings, business and academic conferences and negotiations. Previous experience includes translation for former President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Finance Yair Lapid, and Issac Herzog.
