What is Dye Sublimation?

Sublimation (sub-li-ma'shun)

The term Dye Sublimation can be simply defined by the sentence...

‘Solid dye particles being changed into gas using heat and pressure, which then bond with any Polymers present, and then change back into a solid’.

In English, this equates to printing sublimation ink onto paper using a digital printer and applying heat and pressure using a heat press to sublimate the image to the chosen substrate.

Dye Sublimation - it's relevance in Education? The process is already being used by many schools, colleges and universities acrossthe UK. The process is cross-curricular and is being widely used within the following departments within these schools.

What is Dye Sublimation? The Dye Sublimation process is a molecular dying process, where the ink pigments bond with the Polymer of the item you are printing onto.

The printed items are incredibly durable, because the coloured pigment are printed below the surface of the item you are printing onto.

In the example of a textile the ‘hand’ feel of the textile is not affected, as with othertextile decoration processes, such as laser transfer. You can boil wash the textileand iron over the printed area, without affecting the print.

In the example of resistant materials printed using Dye Sublimation, the printed items are durable, scratch resistant and can be worked post printing.

In general, Dye Sublimation printing is quicker, cleaner, more sustainable and more effective than traditional printing processes such as Silk Screen printing, and more closely mirrors the way that many industrial manufacturing companies are working today.Cosmos Cutlery GCSE Resistant Materials

St Edmund Arrowsmith High School

The process is incredibly flexible and it allows students of all ages and abilities, to produce a wide range of retail / industry quality printed items.

These items not only compliment the quality of their computer aided designs, but leave the students with a high satisfaction level in relation to their finished work.

With Dye Sublimation printing, your school can offer the ability to match the quality of the students on screen CAD designs. The limiting factor is no longer the print output quality.

Many schools that have invested in Dye Sublimation technology have seen a tangible improvement in exam results. This can be directly attributed to the professional quality of the finished products that the students can create from using Dye Sublimation within their projects and coursework.

Dye Sublimation printing is contemporary and relevant to the modern curriculum and we look forward to working closely with you to introduce or expand the use of this exciting technology within your school. sub

Dye Sublimation printing systems have developed and improved with recent advances in printing technology.

Gel Inkjet Technology

This is the latest technological innovation in Dye Sublimation and uses the latest Ricoh Gelsprinters. These printers use interchangable single colour inkcartridges that fit inside the printer, so no external ink feeding system is needed.

The cartridges are filled with the new Sublijet R higher viscocity gel ink formulation. This makes the Ricoh printer ideal for installations where theprinter may sit unused for longer periods of time, for example between coursework projects or school holidays.

The Ricoh printers utilise the latest print head technology. This makes themone of the fastest printers on the market, with output speeds that are equivalent to that of most laser printers.

Colour matching is made simple with the free of charge PowerDriver™ advanced colour management software.

This features pre-set colour management output options for the most commonly used substrates, such as ceramic, fabric and metal.

Gel Inkjet Technology

The Benefits• The printer can cope with periods of non use and requires minimal maintenance.

• The printer has an automatic maintenance cycle function.

• 24 month warranty included, even when using dye sublimation inks.

• There is no external ink feeding unit, just easy to change, single use ink cartridges.

• You can clean a single print head, which means reduced ink wastage.

• Fast print speeds.

• Network ready printer via Ethernet (100BASE-TX, 10BASE-T) or USB 2.0 cable

• Free PowerDriver software for colour control.

• Affordable to run. Example ink costs when printing:

Mug = £0.13 | iPhone Case = £0.05 | Tshirt = £0.48 | Mouse Mat = £0.35

Ask us for detailed information on costs per print. We are happy to providedocumentation that clearly shows the affordability of running a Dye Sublimationprinter.

Testimonials

Don’t just take our word for it...

ISub (Education) are proud to have established a happy and loyal customer baseof Schools, Colleges and Universities, all using Dye Sublimation systems supplied byour company.

Here’s what a few of them say about us:

Rev 12 - November 2016

Page 9

“The introduction of the I Sub system has had a massive impact on both students and staff inthe department. I can honestly say it is the best investment we have made pound for pound. The ink use is incredibly efficient and the resources available excellent value for money. All 5 areas of the subject now use the system on a regular basis. We have now started to branch out into whole school work including corporate signage and rewards presentations. The things that sold it to me were its simplicity, range of resources, which are getting better by the week, and the first class support and training offered by the company. I would be happy to talk to anyone who was interested in the system to explain the impact it has had here.

When you are looking for the WOW factor and instant student success, this is the best system I have used to achieve it. We would be lost without it now. I am now looking at purchasing additional resources for it”.

Ges Cocker - Chaucer Technology School / Consultant for D&T

“I have been using I Sub Education to supply my many sublimation printing needs, since theirinception. Initially I thought their excellent support and service was a one off to get theirCustomer base up and running. Happily this was not the case and I continue to receiveexcellent service, advice and support. I would describe them as a Partner rather than a Supplierand know I can rely on them for that emergency delivery or that technical support to get myprinters working.

I have recommended I Sub Education to many of the Schools I work with and I would recommendthem to you”.

Bob Rose - Deputy Manager Frankley City Learning Centre

“I first met ISub education at the D&T show in Birmingham and was very impressed with the product and the friendliness of the staff. I was so impressed that I arranged for Paul to give a demonstration in my school to quite a large group of Dorset teachers. All teachers were impressed with the process and Paul was able to allay the fears of the sceptics. I purchased a system from Paul and I have been very happy with the after sales service and support. Our system is now in frequent use and is helping the students to produce high quality products”.

Ric Gimber – Technician, Tywnham School

“I have only recently discovered ISub Education but have found both Kerrie and Paul to beextremely helpful and informative. As an independent consultant who supports several LA’s for Design and Technology I am always on the lookout for good ideas to bring to teachers attention. When I saw the sublimation kit that was within some Primary School’s financial grasp, I felt I had to ask ISub Education to come along to the Primary Network to show more teachers the potential of this kit, not only for use in the curriculum but for fund raising events. T-shirts, mugs, jigsaw puzzles all could be produced quickly for sale with children’s photographs on. Paul came along to one Subject Leaders Forum where teachers played with the kit and took some examples back to school – coasters for coffee mugs, money containers etc.

I am so impressed I have just purchased the A4 starter kit for use on my Primary courses and to support colleagues in school to be involved in some really creative projects as they move on from the QCA schemes”.

Sandie Kendall - Bartlett Kendall Education

“We have had our sublimation printing equipment for about a year now and I have been delighted by the results. The ISub Education team were on hand to install the equipment for us and I was particularly pleased to find someone on hand at the end of the phone while we got used to using the system. The quality of the childrens work is superb. We have run a Business Enterprise Club who have been selling different products at various occasions in order to fund the initial cost of the system, as well as this we have made good use of printing onto plastics and metals for general signage around the school, which generally tends to be expensive to buy”.
